Chapter Ten: The T Virus and the Antidote

Inside the moving vehicle, the atmosphere instantly grew unbearably tense.
It felt as though a great battle might erupt at any moment.
Yu Fei’s expression remained calm.
“Ding!”
“The host has treated others with kindness and accumulated immeasurable merit!”
“Merit points +20!”
The villain from the original plot—the true culprit who had orchestrated the laboratory massacre—had died at Yu Fei’s hands, earning him twenty merit points.
This greedy and remorseless criminal did not even know why he had died. He was still suffering from amnesia, unaware of who he was, much less what he had done.
Perhaps, in his heart, he even thought himself terribly wronged.
Standing in the very center of the vehicle, surrounded by gun barrels aimed directly at him, Yu Fei’s expression did not change in the slightest.
“Don’t you want to know why I killed him?”
The others exchanged glances. In the end, Captain James was the one who spoke.
“Why did you kill him?”
“I found this behind the door where we discovered him earlier. Here—open it and take a look.”
Yu Fei handed over a metal case bearing the Umbrella logo.
Captain James gave a silent signal, and Kaplan took the case, immediately beginning to crack the lock.
It was a combination case, but for the versatile Kaplan, that was hardly an insurmountable problem.
While Kaplan worked on opening it, Yu Fei took the initiative to speak.
“We at Interpol learned about Spence’s activities a long time ago. According to the information we obtained, the Life Sciences Company made secret contact with him not long ago.”
“The Life Sciences Company? You mean…”
“That’s right! He was bought off by people from the Life Sciences Company!” Yu Fei declared firmly.
Yu Fei had no idea whether Spence had actually been bought off by the Life Sciences Company.
Judging from the original Resident Evil storyline, Spence seemed to have been pushed forward by the Umbrella Corporation, with the purpose of using him to leak the T-virus.
But in this complicated television-universe setting, no one knew whether Spence had been acting on behalf of Umbrella or some other company in stealing the T-virus.
Captain James frowned.
“Even so, you shouldn’t have killed him like that, should you?”
Yu Fei glanced at him.
“Why don’t you hear what he did before deciding whether you still want to say that?”
“Hm? What did he do?”

“It’s open!”
Before Yu Fei could answer, Kaplan announced his success. The metal case had been opened.
As the case sprang open, a wave of cold air spilled out, revealing row upon row of sealed spiral-shaped vials.
The vials came in two colors, blue and green, with the two types clearly separated and evenly divided.
“What is this?” Matt asked curiously.
“The T-virus,” Yu Fei answered calmly.
“The T-virus?!”
Everyone immediately stepped back and sucked in a breath—or rather, they held their breath altogether.
“Don’t worry. The T-virus is sealed inside those vials. It won’t infect you,” Yu Fei said.
Silently, he added to himself: If we’re talking about infection, you’ve already been infected.
According to the rules of the Resident Evil world, the T-virus could spread through the air. Although its transmission rate was extremely slow, and the quantity was too small to turn someone directly into a zombie, it was still present.
The reason the Resident Evil world later became a living hell within only a few years, with the entire planet falling into ruin, was mainly because the Umbrella Corporation had fanned the flames from behind the scenes and released vast quantities of the T-virus.
For now…
Unless they died outright, causing the immune defenses of their cells to collapse and allowing the T-virus to seize control rapidly, they were unlikely to turn into zombies anytime soon.
“Come to think of it, there seems to be T-virus in my body too, doesn’t there?”
With that thought, Yu Fei immediately bent down and picked up a green vial.
He did not use it at once. Instead, he put it away for the time being, planning to use it later if any problems arose.
“This is…” Kaplan began.
“The antidote to the T-virus.”
Yu Fei made no attempt to conceal it and told them directly.
“The antidote to the T-virus?”
Everyone’s eyes lit up at once.
With this, wouldn’t they no longer have to worry about turning into zombies?
However…
There did not seem to be enough antidote in the case for all of them.
In the end, James stepped forward once more.
“Put all the antidote away for now. If anything happens to one of us later, we can use it then.”
After a pause, he added:

“There should be more antidote somewhere in the laboratory!”
Hearing that, the others stopped staring at the vials. At the same time, their guns naturally shifted away and were no longer pointed at Yu Fei.
After hesitating for a moment, Captain James spoke to him.
“In the future, you should tell us about things like this beforehand, so we can avoid misunderstandings.”
Yu Fei looked at him and nodded.
“I understand.”
Tell them beforehand?
Would they still have let him kill Spence?
Yu Fei saw the situation clearly. Even if James and the others knew that Spence was the true culprit behind the disaster, they probably still would not have killed him outright for various reasons.
The most likely course of action would have been to keep Spence alive and extract more information from him after his memory returned.
That might have been the best choice for James and the others, but it certainly was not the best choice for Yu Fei.
“System.”
Yu Fei called out silently in his mind.
A pale-blue, translucent panel appeared.
Host: Yu Fei
Constitution: 1.2
Spirit: 1.0
Skills: Hand-to-Hand Combat Lv. 2 (0/100), Marksmanship Lv. 2 (0/100)
Merit Points: 28
The system panel remained as crude as ever, except that it now contained a skill section and two Level 2 abilities.
At the same time, the merit points in Yu Fei’s possession had reached a new high—twenty-eight in total!
With so many merit points, he could not only acquire two more Level 2 skills, but might even be able to invest them all into his Constitution and break directly past 1.5.
If a Constitution of 1.2 already represented a world-class physique, then 1.5 had probably reached the pinnacle of human ability. Even throughout history, only a very small number of people could have achieved such a level.
Of course, that applied only to the normal world. In this world…
A Constitution of 1.5 probably had not even reached the level of Captain America’s “human physical limit.”
“Hmm. I’ll hold on to them for now.”
Yu Fei had yet to decide how he wanted to use the merit points, so he decided to set them aside temporarily.
Just then—
“We’re here! Everyone, get out!”
