"Signal restored?"

"That’s fantastic!"

Inside the vehicle, Alice, James, Matt, and the others wore expressions of immense relief. Even Yu Fei, who had been tense this entire time, couldn't help but let his guard down slightly.

"Quick! We need to call the police immediately!" Matt exclaimed.

"Call the police?" Rain gave him a strange look.

"What? Is there something wrong with what I said?" Matt scanned the group, only to find that not just Rain, but everyone else was looking at him with the same bizarre expression. This made him lose his confidence, and he added in a lower voice, "After everything that’s happened, shouldn't our first instinct be to call the police?"

The expressions on their faces grew even more peculiar. Finally, Alice stepped in to smooth things over for him.

"You're right. Under normal circumstances, we certainly should call the police immediately. But this situation is different—it involves the Umbrella Corporation."

"So what?" Matt remained confused. He truly had no idea just how much power the Umbrella Corporation wielded. Had he known, he never would have resorted to impersonating a local police officer as he had in the original timeline. In this version of the world, having discovered that Yu Fei was an "Interpol agent," he had decided that an Interpol badge carried more weight and had opted to impersonate an agent instead.

"It means that the Raccoon City Police Department is essentially on the Umbrella Corporation's payroll," Kaplan couldn't help but interject. In the original story, Kaplan had even pulled up internal records from the Raccoon City Police Department right in front of Matt. The nature of their relationship was something one could easily infer.

"What?" Matt was stunned. The police worked for Umbrella? He suddenly felt as if the world had gone dark.

Rain patted him on the shoulder as a gesture of comfort. The two hadn't gotten along at first; in the beginning, it was Rain who had caught a suspicious-looking Matt. Having just been frustrated by Yu Fei and unable to take it out on him, she had naturally used Matt as a punching bag. For his part, Matt harbored a natural hatred for anyone associated with Umbrella due to his sister. It wasn't until their time in the Hive lab, where they fought zombies side-by-side and Rain even saved his life, that their relationship began to improve.

Beyond Rain, Matt had also managed to develop decent relations with the other members of the commando team. However, no one had much energy to spare for comforting him now. Having dismissed the idea of calling the police, they all turned their attention to Yu Fei.

"Should we try to contact Interpol?" James asked. The police systems in Raccoon City and the surrounding areas were unreliable, and the only external help they could realistically hope for was Interpol. Most importantly, they had an actual Interpol agent right there with them.

Matt’s identity as an "Interpol agent" had been exposed as a ruse back in the Hive, but Yu Fei’s status as an agent still held weight. It wasn't that Yu Fei hadn't considered coming clean—after all, given how close they had become, he didn't strictly need the "Interpol" shield anymore. However, due to various factors, he hadn't been able to bring himself to admit the truth. If he had revealed he was a fraud at the start of the breakout, the others might have panicked. The situation was similar now; if he admitted he wasn't really an Interpol agent, they would realize that Interpol had no idea what was happening here. If James and the others realized they were isolated and left to face the all-powerful Umbrella Corporation alone, who knew how they might react?

*Call Interpol?* The thought flashed through Yu Fei’s mind, only to be immediately rejected. Setting aside the fact that he was a fake with no network of support within that organization, even if he did manage to reach them, how could he be certain that there weren't Umbrella moles within their ranks?

As these thoughts raced through his mind, a spark of inspiration struck. *That’s it!* He had found a new way to break the deadlock.

Under the watchful eyes of the group, Yu Fei pondered for a moment, furrowed his brows, and then said in a deep, serious tone:

"Interpol cannot be trusted."

"Huh?"

The statement left everyone completely bewildered. You’re an Interpol agent, and you’re telling us not to trust Interpol? Was this some kind of sick joke? Now was hardly the time for humor!

As they looked at Yu Fei’s solemn face, they gradually realized he wasn't joking.

"Are you saying that Interpol is also working for the Umbrella Corporation?" Matt asked, his voice filled with despair and determination. "If that’s the case, why bother looking for outside help? Let’s just strap on some explosives and take Umbrella down with us!"

Although the others didn't react quite as explosively, their expressions were equally grim. If the Umbrella Corporation was truly that powerful, didn't that mean they were doomed no matter what?

"It’s not quite that dire," Yu Fei stepped in, offering a glimmer of hope. "If Interpol were all working for Umbrella, how could I have ended up here?"

The group paused, thought it over, and let out a collective sigh of relief.

"He's right!"

If Interpol were truly in Umbrella's pocket, Yu Fei could never have been sent here. No one knew better than they did just how crucial Yu Fei was; without him, they wouldn't have just failed to break out—they wouldn't have even survived the initial trip into the Hive.

"Then what did you mean by that?" Kaplan asked.

"Well, let’s put it this way: Interpol is aware of the problems with the Umbrella Corporation and has begun implementing countermeasures, but..." Yu Fei scanned his surroundings. Seeing that everyone was listening intently, he continued: "According to our original plan, I was supposed to be the vanguard, tasked with investigating the situation inside the Hive lab..."

"After I emerged from the Hive, there was supposed to be a team there to extract me. But as you saw, when we were fighting Umbrella, there was no one to back us up."

"So that’s why you concluded that Interpol can’t be trusted?" Alice asked.

Yu Fei nodded, then shook his head. "I wouldn't say they are completely compromised, but there is definitely a problem within Interpol."

A heavy silence fell over the group.
