Chapter 36 Stark: Save the World? Speak Up! How Much Do You Want? (Please Keep Reading)
Inside the car.
"With an ability like that, you won't ever need to ask for a beautiful woman's phone number again!" Alice couldn't help but tease.
Yu Fei raised an eyebrow and replied, "I think that with this face of mine, the beauties will be offering their numbers voluntarily!"
"Ugh! How shameless!" The ladies all responded with disdain, while the men glared at Yu Fei in solidarity. The atmosphere in the car instantly became much more cheerful.
Amidst this lighthearted mood, Yu Fei dialed Pepper Potts' number. "I hope she isn't too far from Tony Stark right now..."
*Beep... beep... beep...*
"Hello, this is Pepper Potts."
Compared to Phil Coulson, who would have checked and verified the caller ID before answering, Pepper Potts was much more direct. She had seen it was an unknown number, but she didn't overthink it; she answered quickly and stated her name before the caller could even speak.
"Hello, this is Avery."
Since she was so forthcoming, Yu Fei felt it would be impolite to act as he had with Phil Coulson, so he kindly gave his name. Incidentally, Yu Fei had never told Phil Coulson or the others his name. That was exactly why Nick Fury and Coulson always referred to him as "the other party" or "him." They hadn't been particularly suspicious of this, as Yu Fei had already claimed he had just been backstabbed by Interpol. Wasn't it normal to be cautious? Considering his alleged identity as an Interpol agent, a lack of such caution might have actually raised their suspicions instead.
"Hello, Mr. Avery. How can I help you?" Despite the name being unfamiliar, Pepper Potts remained polite.
Yu Fei’s response was equally direct. "Actually, I’m not looking for you. I’m looking for Tony Stark."
"I see. And may I ask what you need Mr. Stark for?" Pepper Potts wasn't surprised; as Tony Stark’s executive assistant, most of the calls she received concerned him.
"You might not believe this, but I’m looking for Tony Stark to save the world!"
"Huh???" Pepper Potts was stunned.
Is this... some new kind of investment pitch? She glanced at her phone, then at Tony Stark, who was busy tinkering with his new "big toy," thought for a moment, and suddenly said, "Tony, there’s a Mr. Avery on the line who wants to save the world with you. Would you like to take the call?"
"Huh?!" Tony Stark was also taken aback. He even put down the hand cannon he was adjusting, which showed that the topic had indeed piqued his interest.
"Interesting... Jarvis, put the call through."
"Certainly, sir!" A mechanical voice replied. The next moment, Yu Fei’s call was transferred to Tony Stark’s end, switched to speaker mode.
"Hello! This..."
"Avery!" Pepper Potts whispered a reminder.
"Right, Mr. Avery. I hear you want to save the world with me. I’m curious, how exactly do you plan to do that? And how much is it going to cost?" Tony Stark’s tone was cheerful and laced with mockery, especially the part about the cost, which practically accused Yu Fei of being a con artist.
Yu Fei didn't feel much anger; that was just who Tony Stark was. If you took it to heart, you’d already lost. He replied in a calm tone, "The cost is hard to say, but if you can't resolve this trouble, the billions of people on this planet probably won't last much longer."
"Hmm?" Tony Stark narrowed his eyes slightly. "Buddy, that’s not a very funny joke."
"Whether it's a joke or not, you'll know in a moment. I’ve sent a video to your company; take a look at it."
Hearing this, Tony Stark’s expression couldn't help but shift. "Jarvis!"
"Yes, sir. The company has indeed received a video from 'Mr. Avery.' Would you like me to display it?"
"Put it on screen."
Following Tony Stark’s command, a holographic video appeared in mid-air. Inside the video was that same sterile, white laboratory.
"No! Please! Please! Don't!"
...
"Ah!!!"
"Ah!!!"
A scream rang out simultaneously from the video and in reality. The one in the video came from the man being bitten by a zombie, while the real-life scream came from Pepper Potts.
"My God! What is going on? This is terrifying!" Pepper Potts covered her mouth, her expression one of utter horror. Though she was a strong, professional woman, that didn't mean she wasn't afraid of zombies. Especially with the projection, the zombies looked incredibly realistic, as if they were right in front of her.
"Finished the video? What do you think?" Yu Fei’s voice sounded again.
"Not bad. The movie is well-made! If it hits theaters, it should at least break even," Tony Stark sneered, feigning indifference.
"A movie? Heh! Don't tell me you didn't see the Umbrella logo in the video."
"So what? You say this is human experimentation by the Umbrella Corporation, but do you have any proof?" Tony Stark maintained his arrogant persona, silently firing back with another question.
"Enough!" Yu Fei didn't intend to keep playing this cat-and-mouse game. He said bluntly, "I don't have time to banter with you about this and that. The Umbrella Corporation will likely cut the signal soon, so let me be brief."
"First, this T-virus can infect all living things, including humans, turning them into zombies—you should know what a zombie is; if you really don't, you can look it up online!"
"What is certain now is that the Umbrella Corporation has successfully developed this virus."
"But what you might not know is that the T-virus concentrate possesses one truly lethal characteristic—it is airborne!"
"What?" Tony Stark was stunned instantly. He didn't even care that his hand cannon dropped to the floor as he hurriedly asked, "You're saying this T-virus is airborne?!"
"My God!" Pepper Potts, standing beside him, also wore a look of sheer terror.
"Don't interrupt! Let me finish!"
"The most critical issue right now is not just that the T-virus is airborne!"
