A rundown motel.

It was already three o’clock in the deep of night, and the entire motel was shrouded in absolute silence. Not a single soul could be seen in the corridors, creating an oppressive, heavy stillness.

Third floor.

Room 302.

Doug pressed the left side of his face against the door, peering intently through the peephole toward the direction of the stairwell.

He had checked into this motel about an hour ago, and he had been staring like this for nearly the entire hour.

He was exhausted.

Yet, thinking of those mesmerizing pills, he sniffed, forced himself to endure, and kept going.

The Umbrella Corporation was being remarkably generous this time!

As long as he transmitted the intelligence, he would be able to indulge himself thoroughly all at once!

"Huh? They’re here!"

Doug’s spirits suddenly lifted.

Through the peephole, he caught sight of Yu Fei and the others.

"One, two, three... eight! Eight people, all deployed! And every single one of them is armed with guns! I’m going to die of sheer pleasure!"

Staring fixedly at the stairwell, he excitedly pulled out his phone, preparing to upload the discovery he had just made.

The next second.

A trace of faint light flashed across his left pupil, as if some metallic object had reflected the corridor’s dim lighting. Doug didn’t pay it much mind.

Until a sharp pain pierced his left eye.

And then.

There was no then.

His cerebral nerves were instantly obliterated. A split second later, a fine needle retreated along its original path, reappearing at the peephole outside the door.

Lingering for just a moment, the slender needle vanished into thin air in the blink of an eye.

Inside the room.

Doug’s pupils dilated, his phone slipped from his powerless grip, and it hit the floor with a sharp clatter.

Immediately after, his entire body seemed to completely lose its support; sliding down the wooden panel of the door, he collapsed limply to the floor.

His heart was still beating, though the pulses grew increasingly faint. Ten seconds later, the heartbeat ceased entirely.

"Ding!"

"The host acts with benevolence, accumulating boundless virtue!"

"Event Virtue Value +1!"

Current Event Virtue Value: 1 point.

"With virtue points gained, it proves this person deserved to die!"

Next came Room 202 on the second floor.

"Ding!"

"The host acts with benevolence, accumulating boundless virtue!"

"Event Virtue Value +1!"

Current Event Virtue Value: 2 points.

Yu Fei raised an eyebrow slightly.

"It seems these people are even more wicked than I imagined!"

Virtue points could not be acquired simply by killing anyone at random. A person capable of providing a single virtue point had committed enough evil to warrant, at the very least, a starting sentence of ten years in prison.

Some of them, if sent back to China, would have already faced the firing squad.

"Since that is the case..."

Room 502 on the fifth floor.

"Ding!"

"The host acts with benevolence, accumulating boundless virtue!"

"Event Virtue Value +1!"

Current Event Virtue Value: 3 points.

Down in the first-floor lobby.

The motel owner periodically turned his head to glance toward the stairwell, muttering under his breath.

"Damn bastard! He actually broke my surveillance monitor! When I see them later, I’ll make sure to—"

A flash of faint light appeared.

The motel owner’s body went completely limp as well. Fortunately for him, a chair happened to support his backside while the counter supported his upper body, making him look as though he had simply fallen asleep.

"Ding!"

"The host acts with benevolence, accumulating boundless virtue!"

"Event Virtue Value +5!"

Current Event Virtue Value: 8 points!

"Huh?"

A flash of surprise crossed Yu Fei’s eyes.

Though he had anticipated that the motel owner was likely no ordinary person, he never expected the man to yield a massive five virtue points all at once!

One had to know that the members of the executioner assault squad, whose sole purpose was killing people for the Umbrella Corporation, yielded mostly just two virtue points.

Only a tiny fraction of them could yield three.

Yet this motel owner managed to surpass them, nearly doubling their yield. One could only imagine just how much evil he usually committed.

On second thought, however, Yu Fei found it entirely reasonable.

In a dark zone like this, who could run a motel and remain benevolent? Everyone here was ruthless and cold-blooded!

Even fellow gangsters might find themselves victims of his double-crosses, let alone ordinary people who inadvertently wandered into this place.

Over the years, the number of people who had died at his hands was likely countless.

Five virtue points... Yu Fei doubted that could even fully encompass all his sins.

Not long after the motel owner collapsed, Yu Fei and his entourage finally descended to the first floor.

Seeing the motel owner apparently "asleep," Rain immediately spoke up.

"I’ll go take care of him!"

"He’s already dead."

Yu Fei casually tossed out a reminder.

Rain, who had just stepped behind the counter, froze for a moment. But... since she was already there, she reached out and felt the motel owner’s neck.

"His heartbeat is gone... He really is dead!"

A person could control their breathing; staying breathless for a short while meant nothing, as one could simply hold it.

But a heartbeat could not be controlled that way.

A person might lower their heart rate through certain methods—dropping from seventy or eighty beats per minute down to fifty or sixty—that was possible.

Yet making a heartbeat vanish entirely? No one possessed such an ability—at least, no normal human did.

Thus, with the motel owner’s heartbeat completely gone, it was one hundred percent certain that he was genuinely dead—unless he wasn’t a normal human!

The group cast somewhat peculiar glances toward Yu Fei.

How did he know the motel owner was already dead?

Could he hear heartbeats?

That couldn't be right!

The two of them were separated by at least three meters, and with the rest of their squad present creating ambient noise, how could he detect that the motel owner lacked a heartbeat amidst so much interference?

Everyone felt deeply puzzled, yet they had no spare time to question it.

They were about to walk out of the motel!

Seeing that Yu Fei showed no intention of stopping, James couldn't help but speak up.

"Avery, there’s a high probability that surveillance personnel sent by the Umbrella Corporation are waiting outside the motel. If we just walk out like this, we’ll likely be exposed!"

In his view, facing such a situation required first scouting out the surrounding intelligence and ideally eliminating all of Umbrella’s scouts!

Even if that proved impossible, they had to find a way to create a diversion and cause as much trouble for Umbrella as possible so they could carve out more maneuvering space for their subsequent operations.

—Well, you read that right, just maneuvering space, not any sort of advantage.

From start to finish, James never believed his group could secure any kind of advantage within Raccoon City, which was essentially Umbrella’s backyard.

"I know. Just follow my lead."

Yu Fei casually dropped those words, kept walking without breaking his stride, and stepped right out of the motel.

Ah!

James’s expression stiffened slightly as he turned to look at the others.

Rain, who had already rejoined the team, shrugged and said.

"Let’s go!"

With that, she became the second person to walk out of the motel.

Though she had clashed with Yu Fei at the very beginning, she revered strength above all, and now she had become the most unwavering follower of Yu Fei among the entire group.

Exchanging glances, the rest of them followed suit and stepped out of the motel.
