"Avery! You're actually not with Interpol, are you!"

Kaplan suddenly blurted out with a deadpan, serious expression.

"Hmm?"

Yu Fei turned his head to look at Kaplan, somewhat taken aback.

*Did he see through my identity?*

Having his identity discovered was no big deal; in fact, he had prepared for this eventuality long ago.

What he hadn't expected, however, was that the first one to figure it out wouldn't be Alice or James, but Kaplan.

Before he could ponder further, Kaplan continued without missing a beat.

"You're actually the legendary Son of God! You've come to save the world, right?"

Yu Fei: "......"

Where on earth did he pull this "Son of God" nonsense from? Was he trying to start a heavenly kingdom?!

The crucial part was that James and Alice actually seemed to half-believe such an absurd statement!

No, seriously!

Do you people really believe that God is of Asian descent?!

Yu Fei wanted to say something, but he had no idea where to even begin. In the end, he could only settle for:

"Alright, our job isn't completely finished yet. Let's go take care of the rest first!"

With those words, Yu Fei stepped out of the abandoned truck and headed toward the dilapidated factory.

Seeing this, the others exchanged a glance and quickly followed suit.

Although that earth-shattering explosion had wiped out a vast number of people, there were still at least a hundred survivors left. If they were to show up in front of them now, there would still be some degree of risk.

With Yu Fei around, however, that was no longer an issue.

On the ground, pieces of scrap metal suddenly levitated into thin air.

The next second, those blood-stained, fire-scorched shards of metal vanished instantly.

Immediately afterward:

Squelch!!!

A survivor's throat was slashed wide open in an instant. He tried to press his hands against his neck, but his strength rapidly faded until his arms finally dropped to his sides.

"Ding!"

"The host acts with kindness and benevolence, accumulating boundless merit!"

"Event merit value +1 point!"

Then came the second survivor, the third survivor......

"Ding!"

"The host acts with kindness and benevolence, accumulating boundless merit!"

"Event merit value +1 point!"

......

"Ding!"

"The host acts with kindness and benevolence, accumulating boundless merit!"

"Event merit value +2 points!"

......

The vast majority of these survivors were still immersed in the terror of the preceding explosion.

Their ears were ringing from deafness, and some had even completely lost their minds. Under such conditions, they failed to detect the hidden peril in the darkness before their lives were reaped directly.

Most of these individuals rewarded Yu Fei with one point of merit, a small fraction granted two points, and an extremely rare few yielded more than two points.

It might seem a bit unbelievable at first glance.

Did the evil deeds committed by these gang members really amount to less than those of a mere motel owner?

Upon deeper reflection, however, it made complete sense.

First of all, under the tight control of the Umbrella Corporation, these gangsters were simply not given the opportunity to commit massive atrocities.

Secondly, the gangster profession was a young man's game.

The vast majority of underworld thugs would be considered "veterans" if they managed to survive in the underground world for three full years.

Hacked to death, dying of overdoses, or perishing through various bizarre means—the probability of death in this underworld was simply too high.

Even if someone managed to climb to the position of a gang boss, it didn't guarantee safety; in fact, it often became even more perilous. They had to watch out not only for external enemies but also for the highly "ambitious" up-and-comers within their own ranks.

Conversely, running a shady motel was much safer. As long as one was cautious enough not to provoke untouchables and understood the etiquette of paying "protection fees," a person could stay in business for a very long time.

So it wasn't that they didn't want to commit more evil; the harsh reality of time simply wouldn't allow them the luxury!

"Who's there?"

The battle-hardened Kournt actually detected the anomaly. Relying on his acute sense of danger, he even managed to dodge a fatal strike.

Unfortunately, three pieces of scrap metal flew toward him simultaneously.

In the end, Kournt still collapsed into a pool of blood.

"Ding!"

"The host acts with kindness and benevolence, accumulating boundless merit!"

"Event merit value: +5 points!"

"Oh? This one's sins are somewhat substantial, eh?"

Yu Fei raised an eyebrow slightly.

Lickers aside, Kournt could be said to be the individual with the highest merit value he had ever eliminated, right on par with the motel owner.

By the time Yu Fei led James and the rest of the group to the scene, the final survivor had also perished beneath the dance of the flying metal shards.

"They're all dead!"

After James led the others in a thorough inspection, they arrived at this incredible conclusion.

A single explosion had actually wiped everyone out?

"No!"

James recalled the many individuals who had died with their throats slit open.

These people shared one very distinct characteristic: most of them had been positioned right at the fringes of the blast zone!

Judging from the mechanics of the explosion, they had a very high probability of surviving it.

Yet the ultimate outcome was that every single one of them was dead.

"Did Avery make a move?"

James cast a glance toward Yu Fei's direction.

Although Yu Fei had walked over with them, even taking the initiative to lead the vanguard to shield them from risk for the sake of safety, the memory of those eight remote-controlled explosives suddenly flying into the air earlier......

"Avery must have used some kind of remote control method to kill them!"

"Wait!"

James's thoughts suddenly shifted to the matter of the surveillance back at the motel.

At the time, he had assumed something catastrophic had gone wrong within the Umbrella Corporation, forcing them to temporarily abandon their pursuit.

But looking at it now, the Umbrella Corporation had never intended to let them go; they had even prepared a massive parting gift for them—directly gathering over a thousand gang members to take them down!

If Yu Fei hadn't uncovered their conspiracy in advance and struck first to eliminate them, James and his companions likely would have met no other end than death once the enemy made their move.

Under such circumstances, given James's understanding of the Umbrella Corporation, it was impossible that they hadn't been monitoring them.

"This must have been Avery's doing as well, right?"

James sighed inwardly.

Neither the gang members nor the members of the strike team had shown any awareness of information regarding their departure from the motel.

Otherwise, they wouldn't have lacked vigilance and "voluntarily" gathered together, allowing themselves—no, allowing Yu Fei to wipe them out in one fell swoop.

Although the ultimate result was their victory, James felt that their win contained a significant component of sheer luck.

For one thing, they only had eight timed explosives on their side.

Even though the explosive power of those devices was quite astonishing, if that thousand-plus group of gangsters hadn't "voluntarily" clustered together, and had instead maintained their initial dispersion, a wave of explosions like that would have done well to kill three or four hundred people at most.

Therefore, at its core, it was the enemy's carelessness that had handed them this miraculous victory.

However, was that truly the case?
