Chapter Nine: Spence? Dead!!

With Yu Fei’s guarantee, the unfamiliar man—Matt Addison from the original film, who would later be transformed into the tyrant—was accepted and successfully joined their team.

Thanks to Yu Fei, Matt wasn’t even handcuffed.

“Thank you,” Matt whispered as he approached Yu Fei.

“No need to thank me; after all, we’re colleagues!” Yu Fei said meaningfully, patting Matt on the shoulder.

Matt’s expression stiffened slightly.

“Heh, yeah.”

“Is everyone ready? Let’s move out!”

Led by Captain James, the group quickly arrived at a glass wall.

In fact, it was a door cleverly disguised as a glass wall.

“Everyone, step back a little!”

Captain James called out, urging everyone to retreat.

Once they had reached a safe distance, a member of the assault team, fully clad in protective gear, stepped forward and opened the door.

After conducting some tests:

“The concentration of the hypnotic gas is nearly zero. It’s safe to enter!”

The Red Queen had released a large amount of hypnotic gas inside the laboratory to eliminate those infected. If inhaled inadvertently, their fate would be no different from Alice’s.

Fortunately, several hours had passed, and the gas had been expelled through the ventilation system. The remaining traces were too minimal to have any significant effect.

Would they worry about the Red Queen using the same trick again, releasing poison gas to kill them inside?

There was no need for concern.

The laboratory had only a small supply of the hypnotic gas, which the Red Queen had already exhausted in the previous attack.

Moreover, this hypnotic gas wasn’t truly lethal; even heavy inhalation would only cause temporary amnesia.

The Red Queen had used the fire sprinkler system to wipe out everyone inside.

Essentially, the Red Queen did not have the authority to kill—except for the final laser corridor leading to its mainframe.

That corridor was one of Umbrella Corporation’s most precious assets.

To protect the Red Queen’s core, they had installed a nearly impenetrable laser corridor.

“Let’s go in.”

Captain James led the way through the door.

After descending a slope, they arrived at a warehouse filled with items bearing the Umbrella logo.

One assault team member immediately picked up a black case and took out a square device, preparing to attach it to the wall.

“Wait!”

Yu Fei stopped him just in time.

“This should be a timed bomb, right? Are you planning to destroy this laboratory?”

“Uh! Captain…”

The assault team member was speechless; indeed, this was part of their original mission.

Perhaps out of habit, they hadn’t realized anything was wrong with their actions.

Captain James glanced at the box of timed bombs, then at Yu Fei, and finally said,

“Take it with us for now.”

“Yes, sir!”

The two carried the box into the carriage instead of placing it on the wall and setting a three-hour timer.

In the later plot, the various problems they encountered were closely tied to that three-hour countdown—if they didn’t exit within the allotted time, they would die inside!

“Ding!”

“Host shows kindness to others, great merit achieved!”

“Merit points +5!”

“Only five points?” Yu Fei felt a bit disappointed.

Well, even the smallest morsel is still food!

Inside the carriage.

This was a specialized train carriage used for transporting various goods. The Umbrella Corporation’s underground lab was quite far away, so they relied on this carriage to reach it quickly.

However, it seemed the carriage had lost power. Ryan personally went down to fix it for a while before it was operational again.

“All set, ready to go!”

The small train restarted.

Yu Fei, Alice, and Matt sat quietly on one side, waiting.

Ryan went to the rear door, attempting to open it, but no matter what he tried, it wouldn’t budge.

“What’s wrong with that door?”

“Probably due to years of neglect.”

“Let me try!”

Salinas stepped forward. After exerting considerable effort, he finally opened the door.

But the moment the door swung open, a figure leapt out, startling him into quickly dodging aside.

It turned out to be an unconscious man.

“Looks like you’re not very brave either!” Ryan mocked.

A female medic stepped forward, shining a flashlight on the unconscious man.

“Look at the light, follow it with your eyes…”

At that moment, Alice suddenly noticed the unconscious man wore the same ring as her.

I’m married to him?

Flashbacks of their wedding scenes flickered through her mind, with this very man as the groom.

“Fake marriage. You two entered into a fake marriage to cover for Umbrella Corporation,” Kaplan explained upon noticing the situation.

“Fake marriage?”

Alice was slightly stunned. Some memories she had didn’t seem like something that could be faked.

But she didn’t voice her doubts; with her memory lost, she was still quite confused.

The unconscious man soon regained consciousness but was just as clueless.

“He’s fine, just temporarily amnesiac.”

“What’s his name?”

Yu Fei suddenly asked.

“Spence. Alice’s fake husband, and also a member of Umbrella Corporation,” Kaplan replied.

The next moment—

Bang!

Yu Fei fired a shot straight into Spence’s head, killing him instantly.

“Oh! Shit! What the hell are you doing?!”

“You’re insane! Why did you kill him?”

“Damn it! You’re a complete maniac!”

Everyone shouted accusations at Yu Fei. The assault team members immediately aimed their guns at him.

Even Alice, who had always stood by Yu Fei, now looked at him in shock and disbelief.

Why did you kill Spence?!

No one could understand.

Spence hadn’t wronged him; he had just woken up, still amnesiac, without uttering a single unnecessary word—and yet Yu Fei killed him?

That was madness!

‘Could it be because of Alice?’ Kaplan subconsciously glanced at her.

Yu Fei and Alice had appeared together, and their relationship had seemed strange.

Could Yu Fei have disliked Spence simply because he was Alice’s husband, and therefore shot him?

But hadn’t he just said they were in a fake marriage? A fake marriage! Were his ears deaf or something?!
