Chapter 32: The Car Accident 2
At this moment, Shen Mengxia lay quietly on the hospital bed, looking incredibly fragile, like a lifeless doll stripped of its soul. Her petite frame appeared so thin that it stirred a deep sense of pity in anyone who saw her. Her once fair, smiling face was now as pale as paper, devoid of any color. Her eyes were tightly shut, and her long eyelashes fluttered slightly like butterfly wings, yet she remained unable to open them.
In the adjacent bed lay Jiang Zeyu. He, too, was severely injured and remained unconscious.
Suddenly, the door to the ward opened. A tall man wearing a white lab coat and a surgical mask entered, pushing a cart full of medical instruments. A tattoo was clearly visible on the portion of his forearm exposed beneath his sleeve. His eyes were cold and ruthless, and he gripped a sharp scalpel tightly in his hand.
Shen Mengxia lay sleeping soundly. The assassin walked softly to the bedside and gazed at her face without a shred of mercy. He raised the scalpel and slowly reached toward her throat.
At that critical moment, Jiang Zeyu awoke. Seeing the assassin on the verge of success, he ignored the wires and tubes still attached to his body and lunged at the assailant. Agile and quick, Jiang Zeyu dodged the assassin’s strikes and launched a swift counterattack. He grabbed objects from the room to use as weapons, engaging the killer in a desperate struggle.
Gradually losing the upper hand, the assassin grew agitated and his attacks became frantic. Seizing an opportunity, Jiang Zeyu kicked the assassin’s wrist, sending the blade flying. He pinned the man down and smashed the emergency call button. Yet, strangely, despite the violent commotion and the alarm, not a single member of the hospital staff appeared.
Weakened by his own injuries, Jiang Zeyu soon began to falter, losing his advantage. Just as he felt he could hold on no longer, a figure flashed into the room like lightning. It was a tall, blonde-haired, blue-eyed foreigner. With remarkable agility, the stranger joined the fray, instantly relieving the pressure on Jiang Zeyu.
Meanwhile, the sounds of intense fighting and shouting echoed from outside the room, casting the entire scene into chaos. Seeing this, Jiang Zeyu did not hesitate; he hoisted Shen Mengxia onto his back and sprinted toward the stairs. There was no point in waiting here to die; with the situation unclear, escape was the only option.
Gritting his teeth, he poured every ounce of his remaining strength into his dash toward the exit. Along the way, he weaved through the brawling crowds, narrowly avoiding blows that whistled past him. Several times, he barely escaped being struck by oncoming attacks.
Finally, Jiang Zeyu reached the hospital entrance on the ground floor. Gasping for air, his forehead slick with beads of sweat, he didn't stop to rest. He immediately hailed a passing taxi and shouted at the driver in a frenzy, "Quick! To the Embassy of Country Z!"
As soon as he climbed into the car, he saw the group of men chasing after them. Jiang Zeyu urged the driver, "Hurry! There are dangerous people chasing us; I’ll pay you double the fare."
Only when he looked back and saw that the crowd had failed to catch up did Jiang Zeyu let out a sigh of relief. His mind raced, recalling every detail of his acquaintance with Shen Mengxia. What kind of conflict had she become embroiled in? Someone wanted her dead, while others were determined to save her. She had always claimed to be an orphan, raised by the Fu family since she was young.
For the first time in his life, Jiang Zeyu felt a pang of regret—regret that he had so rashly agreed to help her, only to be dragged into such a dangerous predicament without understanding why. The situation was growing increasingly complex, and he had no leads whatsoever. *Sigh.*
However, one thing was certain: the premeditated murder or harm of a state official was something the laws of Country Z would never tolerate. Now, at least, he had a legitimate reason to launch a full investigation.
