Chapter 62: Solving the Riddle II
Sitting alone quietly in the car, Shen Mengxia found her thoughts drifting back to the moment she parted ways with Shen Mengqing last night.
The scene played over and over in her mind like a movie reel, and she struggled to recall every single detail, especially the expression on her sister's face at that time.
Back then, her sister’s eyes had wandered aimlessly, seemingly concealing a multitude of unspoken emotions.
Yet, at the time, Shen Mengxia had failed to notice the profound meaning hidden behind that hesitant, lingering expression.
Thinking back on it now, she felt a wave of deep regret, loathing herself for being so careless and missing so many crucial clues.
Even when they parted and her sister mentioned she was temporarily staying with their aunt, Shen Mei, she hadn't sensed anything amiss.
Biting her lower lip, Shen Mengxia instructed the driver to speed up, resolving to go to her aunt's yacht to investigate the situation.
Upon meeting Shen Mei, Shen Mengxia obediently greeted her as Aunt, while her eyes darted around searching for her sister.
Unfazed, Shen Mei smiled brightly and said, "Xiaxia, rushing over this early in the morning—do you miss your auntie that much?"
"Auntie, is my sister here with you?" Not wanting to play word games anymore, Xiaxia cut straight to the point.
"I forgot to tell you, a week from now is the engagement banquet of the Shen family's heiress. Be sure to come!" Shen Mei said in a provocative tone.
"The engagement banquet of the Shen family's heiress! Who? Who is getting engaged? And to whom?" A terrible premonition washed over Shen Mengxia; this engagement banquet was nothing short of a trap, and it was definitely connected to Shen Mengqing.
"Xiaxia, aren't you quite smart? You should have guessed who it is by now. As for who she's engaged to? See the invitation for yourself! Your aunt has a banquet to organize, so I won't chat with you any longer."
With that, Shen Mei turned and walked away, leaving Shen Mengxia standing there in a daze.
Burning with anxiety, Shen Mengxia pulled the invitation card from her pocket, her eyes widening as she examined the text upon it word by word.
Printed in gleaming gold on the exquisite paper were the words "Engagement Banquet Invitation," and directly below, it clearly stated that the betrothed parties were Shen Mengqing, the heiress of the Shen family, and Liu Zifeng, the young master of the Liu family.
"The Liu family? Just who on earth is this Liu family? Why are so many unfamiliar tycoon households suddenly popping up in the capital's elite circles?"
Shen Mengxia knitted her brows tightly, pondering inwardly. She felt like a headless fly, crashing blindly about in this intricate, labyrinthine world with not a single clue to guide her.
What made Shen Mengxia feel even more helpless was that, without Shen Mengqing by her side to untangle the riddles, she was utterly clueless about the intricate web of relationships within the Shen family.
First, there was the man claiming to be her uncle who had aggressively seized her and forced her to sign a share transfer agreement.
Before that, there was even the mysterious person in Country T who had been bent on killing her! But just who was trying to harm her? And who had stepped in to save her at the critical moment?
At that very moment, she recalled that when Shen Mei was introducing the family background to her yesterday, she had mentioned that the Shen family had four sons and one daughter.
So far, apart from her own father, she had already met two of them. By that count, there should still be one more uncle or elder uncle who had yet to show his face.
At this thought, Shen Mengxia could not help but let out a long sigh, murmuring to herself: "Judging by how things stand now, Shen Mengqing must be controlled by this so-called aunt of mine, and she won't let me see her easily..."
