Oh my goodness. Su Wanyue felt a wave of helplessness in her heart; he really thought she wanted to apply medicine for him! It was all the original owner's overactive imagination—seeing him injured made her feel concerned. She had already crouched down and opened the bottle of medicine; she couldn't just leave it at that. Besides, Su Wanyue often treated her own injuries and was practically half a doctor. She was quite skilled at applying medicine and massage. "I've already opened the bottle; don’t move," she said.

Looking up at Su Wanyue’s head, Lu Zetao was utterly baffled by this woman. His irritation grew stronger; he felt utterly exhausted from dealing with her. But this woman had already drained all his patience. "I said, I don’t need your help!" Lu Zetao’s frustration boiled over; his face flushed bright red as he kicked at Su Wanyue’s hand holding the medicine bottle.

Su Wanyue was completely unprepared; the bottle clattered to the ground, spilling medicine everywhere. She was stunned for a moment, then fury ignited within her. "Are you crazy?! I was trying to help you, and you don’t want it, so why kick me?!" she scolded sternly, her face hard. "Good intentions treated like dirt!"

Seeing her anger, Lu Zetao actually smirked. A faint trace of mockery curled at the corners of his mouth. "What’s the matter? Can’t keep up the act? Even cursing now because you’re so flustered?" he taunted.

Acting? What act? He really didn’t understand what the original owner saw in this dog of a man! Probably just mesmerized by his looks! "Do whatever you want!" Su Wanyue snapped, then stormed off angrily, her footsteps quick as she slammed the door behind her.

Lu Zetao tended his own wound, rested a while, and when he stepped outside for some fresh air, he spotted Jin Sitian standing beneath the tree by the dormitory building. She glanced anxiously at her watch, then looked in his direction repeatedly, clearly worried. When she saw him, her eyes lit up and she hurried over, slightly out of breath, concern etched on her face. "Zetao, um... did Su Wanyue say anything to you?"

"Nothing," Lu Zetao answered frankly, a hint of fatigue in his gaze.

Jin Sitian glanced at him, lowering her head, a flicker of disappointment crossing her eyes. "Oh... You used to tell me everything."

"Really, she said nothing," Lu Zetao sighed helplessly. He didn’t know how to explain things to Jin Sitian and felt a bit troubled. No matter how truthfully he spoke, Jin Sitian simply didn’t believe him. She bit her lip, her expression tinged with dissatisfaction and suspicion.

Just then, their colleague Dr. Huang Qinglei returned from work and greeted Lu Zetao, interrupting their conversation. "Zetao, are you really going to be with Jin Sitian..." Huang Qinglei glanced at Jin Sitian’s retreating figure before tentatively asking.

To be honest, Lu Zetao himself was uncertain. He frowned slightly, his eyes reflecting confusion. Now that Su Wanyue was out of the picture and he was free, seeing his first love again inevitably stirred feelings. Plus, as a man on the verge of divorce, and with Jin Sitian being so wonderful and about to graduate with promising job prospects, the situation was complicated.

"I’ll think about it later! So annoying," he muttered.

Huang Qinglei immediately understood it was because of Su Wanyue. "I just heard from Xiaohui that some village gossips were saying Su Wanyue came to see you but stormed off angrily. What happened?"

Lu Zetao hated gossipmongers the most. He frowned, an expression of annoyance crossing his face. "Who knows what’s wrong with that woman? She came over insisting on applying medicine for me."

"Does she still have feelings for you?" Huang Qinglei asked.

Lu Zetao shook his head firmly, his eyes resolute. "I really don’t feel that way about her."

After selling glutinous rice balls, Su Wanyue returned home and was about to rest when someone knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" she asked, puzzled.

"It’s me, Wanyue," said Wang Hui’s voice, sounding urgent.

Su Wanyue hurried to open the door, and seeing Wang Hui’s disheveled, tear-streaked face filled with worry, her heart tightened. Wang Hui was sweating, hair messy, and her red-rimmed eyes showed she had been crying.

"Wanyue, Sweetie got into trouble."

Sweetie was Wang Hui’s daughter, just starting first grade this year.

Su Wanyue’s face grew serious instantly. "What happened to Sweetie? Tell me slowly. If I can help, I will."

"Sweetie was playing with Dazhuang by the village edge. Somehow, Dazhuang pushed her down, and her head hit a stone by the riverbank. She bled a lot..." Wang Hui stammered, her voice breaking into sobs.

Dazhuang was the eldest son of Li Yunfei and Chen Ruyun, a year older than Sweetie, sturdy but bad-tempered, often causing trouble. Just recently, he had fought with his younger brother Xiaoxing.

"Did Li Yunfei and Chen Ruyun know about this? How can they just ignore it?" Su Wanyue frowned, anger rising. Her own son causing trouble—she couldn’t just let it go!

"They went with the production team to help the neighboring village with the farm work and can’t be found right now. Dazhuang is with his grandfather, and the old man doesn’t know what to do," Wang Hui said anxiously, helplessness in her eyes.

"Then what are you waiting for? Where is Sweetie? Let’s take her to the hospital quickly," Su Wanyue said firmly, grabbing Wang Hui’s hand and rushing out, her steps urgent and swift.

"Wanyue, do you... have any money on you?" Wang Hui asked anxiously, frowning, nervously twisting her sleeves, her voice trembling.

She had only planned to borrow some money to take Sweetie to the doctor but did not expect Su Wanyue to be so kind-hearted, offering to go with her.

"Don’t worry, I have enough to cover Sweetie’s treatment," Su Wanyue said confidently, patting Wang Hui’s shoulder to reassure her.

At the riverbank, Su Wanyue saw Sweetie lying on the ground. Dazhuang and his grandfather stood nearby, helpless and uncertain. Sweetie’s eyes were tightly shut, her face pale, with blood staining her forehead, looking pitiful.

Dazhuang looked scared, standing stiffly, nervously twisting his clothes.

"Come on, hurry up, don’t delay the child’s treatment," Su Wanyue urged, quickly picking up Sweetie, gently comforting her as she hurried toward the main road.

Seeing her like this warmed Wang Hui’s heart. She was scared and trembling so badly her legs felt weak; she couldn’t even carry her daughter.

At the road, Su Wanyue flagged down a passing tricycle, paid the driver, and they sped to the county hospital as fast as possible.

Upon arrival, doctors and nurses immediately took Sweetie into the emergency room. Su Wanyue hurried to the payment window.

"Wanyue, do you think Sweetie will be alright? She hit her head... what if..." Wang Hui’s eyes welled with tears, her gaze full of worry and fear. She grabbed Su Wanyue’s sleeve, trembling all over.

"Don’t worry. Sweetie is blessed—nothing bad will happen," Su Wanyue comforted, gently patting her shoulder.

Only then did she realize her own legs were shaking from fear and worry, and her arms, still holding Sweetie, were starting to ache.

"Xiaohui, sit down and wait. There are doctors inside. Sweetie will be fine soon," Su Wanyue said, helping Wang Hui to a nearby chair.

"Mm... mm," Wang Hui nodded repeatedly, eyes full of gratitude.

For half an hour, Wang Hui was beside herself with worry, tears drying and wetting her face again and again.

Finally, the emergency room door opened, and the doctor came out.
