Upon hearing this, Ye’s father showed a trace of embarrassment on his face. They hadn’t expected to have misjudged the situation. However, he was grateful that his son had always been close friends with Lu Yun since childhood. Lu Yun trusted his son the most, rather than having any real affection for his cousins.

The sweet aroma of corn and meat wafted from the living room. The two little ones couldn’t help but swallow their saliva as their eyes fixed on the auntie bustling about in the kitchen. Su Xingwan was flustered but finally managed to finish the corn and pork rib soup. The children had been hungry for some time, though the cartoons had distracted them from their hunger earlier. As soon as the auntie brought out the pot, they hurried to the dining table.

Su Xingwan looked down at them and said, “Go wash your hands quickly, then come back to drink the soup.” The children scurried off to the bathroom to wash their hands. When they returned, the auntie had already ladled two bowls of soup, each with a spoon. They sat obediently at the table, and Su Xingwan reminded them, “The soup is still a bit hot. Be careful when you eat the meat inside.” She had picked out all the bones after cooking, leaving only tender meat.

The two little ones listened carefully and cautiously scooped a small piece of steaming meat with their spoons. They eagerly took a bite. Although the meat was very tender, it wasn’t as flavorful as the one they had eaten before in the hospital.

Little Suhua looked up and asked, “Auntie, why does the meat taste different this time?” Su Xingwan was puzzled and thought she might be saying the meat had gone bad. She quickly took a piece from her own bowl and tasted it, “It doesn’t taste off.”

Little Suoluo replied, “Auntie, can’t you tell? This meat tastes different from the one you served us in the hospital last time.” Su Xingwan realized the truth: the two children were dissatisfied with her cooking. Yet their innocent expressions revealed they had no idea why. They assumed that since it was the same corn and pork rib soup, it should taste the same.

Su Xingwan explained, “The corn and pork rib soup in the hospital wasn’t made by me, so naturally, it tastes different.” The two little ones nodded in understanding. “Auntie, can you not make the same kind of soup as they do in the hospital?”

Su Xingwan felt awkward as she looked at their innocent, expectant faces. She had been careful not to over-salt the soup today, fearing it might turn out too salty or spoiled, knowing children generally preferred milder flavors. Yet despite this, the children still didn’t enjoy the soup. She felt a pang of sadness.

Seeing auntie fall silent, the two little ones wondered if they had said something wrong and made her unhappy. Just then, the system activated and deliberately said, “Your auntie purposely made this meat so unappetizing for you to eat.” This mischievous little aunt was so cruel, yet the two children trusted her wholeheartedly. The system was determined to expose her scheme as soon as possible so they wouldn’t be deceived.

Little Suoluo frowned hearing the system’s words. Why did this annoying system keep popping up? Unaware of being disliked by its small host, the system continued unabated, “Little host, you mustn’t be fooled by this wicked auntie. You have to find your uncle quickly and have him defeat the evil auntie, teach her a lesson!”

“Shut up!” Little Suoluo snapped angrily. Su Xingwan was momentarily stunned by the child’s sudden outburst. Everything was fine just moments ago—why the sudden anger? Hearing the child’s plaintive tone, the system quickly chose to keep silent. It wasn’t afraid of the little host but feared being exposed. If the wicked auntie found out, the path to the uncle would become even harder. The system was convinced that the little host’s unwavering trust in the auntie meant she must have used some method to manipulate them both.

At Lu Corporation, Lu Yun was buried in paperwork when his assistant, Xu Xiao, came in and said, “President Lu, Young Master Ye is here.” Lu Yun didn’t look up, “Old Madam sent him again, didn’t she?” “Probably,” replied Xu Xiao.

“Cousin! I heard you starved yourself into the hospital a few days ago because of work?” Before Ye Yixing’s entourage arrived, his voice had already entered Lu Yun’s office.

Ye Yixing’s handsome and striking face appeared inside Lu Yun’s office. He made himself comfortable, plopping down on the sofa without any manners. Lu Yun looked up, “What are you here for?”

Ye Yixing asked, “Did you have another argument with your father?” Lu Yun retorted, “Mind your own business.”

Ye Yixing grinned, “Oh, come on. Old Madam asked me to come and comfort you.” Lu Yun was speechless.

“So, tell me, what did you argue about this time?” Ye Yixing had no intention of comforting him; instead, his expression was full of gossip. To him, the fact that his cousin dared to defy his father and go against him was admirable. If it were him, his father would have probably frozen his credit card the same day and, together with his mother, given him a real scolding.

Tsk tsk, being the head of the family really changed people—made them stand tall and proud. Lu Yun ignored him. Seeing Lu Yun silent, Ye Yixing guessed what the matter was.

“I heard from my father that your father arranged a marriage for you? The match is Jiang Mengqi, the youngest daughter of the Jiang family?” Lu Yun said coldly, “If you’re done, get out.” Ye Yixing smiled, “Don’t be like that, cousin. You’re not as cute as when you were little.” Lu Yun was speechless again.

“But cousin, you’re really brave! I’m scared just looking at Uncle Lu’s fierce face, yet you actually dare to stand up to him?” Lu Yun said flatly, “He’s being obnoxious.” Ye Yixing gave a thumbs-up. “Awesome, awesome! If that were my dad, he’d probably beat me up a few times and then lock me in the house to write a 3,000-word self-criticism.”

Then Ye Yixing paused and said, “Cousin, do you know why Uncle Lu insists on you marrying the youngest daughter of the Jiang family?” Seeing Lu Yun’s indifferent expression, he continued, “Actually, you should know. The eldest daughter of the Jiang family was previously betrothed to your older brother. She really liked him at the time, and it was known throughout the capital that she was your brother’s fiancée. But your brother publicly refused the marriage, causing the Jiang family to lose face and vow never to associate with your family again. So, your father arranged for their youngest daughter to marry you, partly as compensation and partly to ease business relations between the families.”

Lu Yun said coldly, “Serves him right.”

Ye Yixing laughed, “I agree. Your older brother clearly didn’t like the Jiang eldest daughter, but Uncle Lu insisted on forcing her on him. I heard your brother even had a girlfriend at the time, but Uncle Lu didn’t approve?”

Lu Yun’s eyes flickered slightly.

Ye Yixing sighed, “But that’s all in the past now.”
