Chapter 5: So Many Acquaintances

Seeing this, Su Xingwan asked, "Are you full?"
The two little ones nodded.
Though the cake was small, it was enough for them.
Holding the hands of the two children, Su Xingwan couldn’t help but think of the eldest treasure, who had been sold off early by the original owner.
In the book, although the eldest treasure was sold, his life was much better than that of his two younger siblings.
That was why she wasn’t in a hurry to find the eldest treasure; after all, their little uncle would come looking for him in a year or two. So she had to buy him back before the third treasure’s little uncle arrived.
Right now, her pockets were empty; the original owner had long spent the huge sum gained from selling the eldest treasure.
Her most important task now was to earn money—to buy back the eldest treasure as soon as possible and give their little uncle a perfect explanation.
“Auntie, I need to pee,” little Su Hua suddenly said.
“I need to pee too,” little Su Luo added.
“Peeing, huh?” Su Xingwan glanced around and looked all around. “Let’s go to the restroom inside the mall.”
With that, she held the two children’s hands and returned to the mall.
“You go in first. Auntie will wait for you outside.”
Su Xingwan stood by the restroom door. After a glance and some hesitation, the two children went inside.
At that moment, two young women carrying designer bags and several shopping bags approached.
Wu Qian asked with suspicion, “Is that Su Xingwan?”
“Looks like her.”
“Should we go say hi?”
Wu Qian smirked, “Of course. I heard from Zhang Qiaoqiao that she’s gone bankrupt.”
“Bankrupt?” Qu Qiuxin was puzzled.
Su Xingwan turned her head and saw two elegantly dressed women walking toward her.
“Su Xingwan, what a coincidence! Didn’t expect to see you here.”
Su Xingwan was confused.
Who were these two?
Wu Qian sized her up. Although the down jacket she wore was beautiful, its style was somewhat outdated—not a fashionable piece from the current season.
“Su Xingwan, Zhang Qiaoqiao said you went bankrupt. Is that true?”
Su Xingwan nodded, “Yes, it’s true.”
“Then… is it also true that the variety show spot held by Young Master Ye, which you had your eyes on, was snatched by Zhang Qiaoqiao?”

Wu Qian remembered how Su Xingwan had once boasted in front of them that she would definitely get Young Master Ye’s spot, and now she had been thoroughly humiliated.
However, all Wu Qian heard was Su Xingwan’s faint “yes.”
…That’s it???
They thought that seeing Su Xingwan’s fallen state, she would look embarrassed and ashamed, but unexpectedly, she faced all these matters so calmly, without a trace of shame or embarrassment.
Just then, the two children hurried out of the restroom.
Seeing Auntie still waiting outside, the siblings both breathed a sigh of relief.
Su Xingwan asked, “Did you wash your hands?”
Both nodded, “Yes.”
She came closer to check their little hands. Their palms were slightly damp, still faintly scented with hand soap.
Feeling somewhat comforted, she thought that at just about three years old, they could wash their hands clean by themselves.
She also recalled how the original owner never seriously cared for them growing up; the children had been forced to learn these things on their own, which made her feel a pang of sympathy.
Wu Qian glanced up and down at the two little bundles.
“Are these your kids?”
Since Su Xingwan had never taken them out or mentioned them, Wu Qian and the others had no idea she even had two children.
Su Xingwan replied, “No, I’m their aunt.”
Wu Qian remained skeptical, “…Their aunt?”
The two children inherited their parents’ strong genes and were strikingly beautiful even at such a young age.
Wu Qian couldn’t help but reach out to touch their faces.
But as she moved closer, the children stepped back.
Wu Qian’s outstretched hand awkwardly froze mid-air.
“Damn kids, just like their aunt.”
Little Su Hua heard her voice and pouted in displeasure.
Wu Qian forced a calm expression and withdrew her hand, deliberately taunting, “Su Xingwan, you’re so poor now. Want me to help you find a job?”
Su Xingwan’s eyes lit up. “Sure.”
She was just worried about not having work.
Wu Qian paused, then added, “Remember that photographer who wanted you to model for a few days and take some photos? Not sure if you still remember?”
Wu Qian recalled that Su Xingwan had rejected that part-time job before, because Su Xingwan was proud and looked down on modeling, feeling it lowered her status.

When that photographer came to approach Su Xingwan, she had harshly scolded him, making the photographer embarrassed and leaving with his tail between his legs.
Wu Qian thought her insult would anger Su Xingwan and make her lash out as before, but to her surprise, Su Xingwan was not angry at all—in fact, she happily accepted the offer.
“Su Xingwan, have you lost your memory? You scolded that photographer last time. Did you think he’d still come to you?”
Su Xingwan was puzzled, “Weren’t you just introducing him to me? I thought he was magnanimous enough to overlook it.”
She knew what the original owner had done, but the thing was, she wasn’t the original owner.
As long as Wu Qian was willing to build this bridge, she could apologize to that photographer.
After all, she was really poor right now!!!
Su Xingwan quickly took out her phone.
“Should I add him on WeChat now?”
Seeing Su Xingwan’s eager and happy expression, Wu Qian suddenly felt a lump stuck in her throat, her words hitting like a fist into cotton—utterly unsatisfying.
Wu Qian coldly took out her phone, opened the WeChat contacts, and found the photographer’s WeChat ID.
Impatiently, she said, “Here’s his WeChat. Whether he agrees to add you or not, I don’t know…”
With a “ding” sound, Su Xingwan swiftly scanned the QR code and added him.
“Ah! I finally have a job!”
Only God knew she had just fifteen hundred yuan left in her pocket. Without more income, she’d starve.
Little Su Hua looked up at Auntie. “Auntie, are you very poor now?”
Wu Qian shot her down, “Don’t get happy too soon. Whether he adds you or not is still uncertain.”
Su Xingwan smiled brightly, “At least it’s an opportunity.”
Wu Qian: “…”
In the end, her expression matched Zhang Qiaoqiao’s from before as she left, looking foolish.
After they left, a woman with an elegant and aloof aura saw Su Xingwan and paused.
“Is that you?”
Su Xingwan had once again run into someone who knew the original owner.
How embarrassing.
Help! How could she run into so many acquaintances just by shopping?
