Su Xingwan stayed up all night escorting the two little ones to the hospital. After the doctor examined them, she couldn’t help but say, “How are you managing as a mother? Both of them have a fever, and you’re only bringing them here now.”

Su Xingwan quickly apologized, “Sorry, doctor. I’ve only just started taking care of the kids and don’t have much experience.”

The doctor raised an eyebrow. “Just started? Who took care of them before? Your mother or your mother-in-law?”

Then she glanced behind Su Xingwan. “Where’s the children’s father? How irresponsible of him not to come to the hospital even though the kids have a fever and a cold.”

The doctor had worked here for over a decade and had seen many single mothers bringing their children alone to the hospital. It was as if their husbands had disappeared entirely.

Though she had grown used to it, she still couldn’t help but scold in such situations.

A colleague beside her nudged her, “Dr. Liu, mind your own business. This is a family matter; why are you, a doctor, worrying about it?”

The doctor’s rationality was somewhat restored by the comment.

“Alright, alright. Luckily, you brought them in just in time. Go pay the fees now.”

Su Xingwan hurriedly thanked her.

In another ward lay a young, handsome, and aloof man.

At his bedside stood a middle-aged man in a suit, holding a thermal container.

“Mr. Lu, this millet porridge was specially prepared for you by the matriarch. Have a few sips.”

Xu Xiao opened the container, and a warm, sweet aroma wafted out instantly.

Lu Yun glanced at it. “Again with this?”

Xu Xiao smiled, “Mr. Lu, don’t you like the millet porridge the matriarch makes?”

Lu Yun replied coldly, “I’m tired of it.”

Xu Xiao chuckled, “Mr. Lu, you’re quite like the eldest young master, always throwing childish tantrums.”

Lu Yun snorted, “Nothing like him.”

Xu Xiao smiled quietly.

“Mr. Lu, the matriarch specially instructed that for your health, you must not engage in company affairs for now. You need to stay in the hospital a few more days until you fully recover.”

“I know,” he said impatiently.

Su Xingwan ran back and forth for the two little ones, busy almost all night.

Late at night, she sat beside the bed, never leaving their sides, yawning with fatigue showing on her face.

Little Su Luo lay quietly asleep with eyes closed.

As dawn broke faintly, little Su Luo groggily opened his eyes, vaguely seeing his aunt sleeping in front of the bed, then he drifted back to sleep.

Early morning, Su Xingwan, who had been dozing by the two little ones’ beds, gradually woke.

She reached out to feel their foreheads — the fever had subsided.

Delighted, she hurried to call the doctor.

The doctor said, “Though the fever’s gone, I suggest keeping them hospitalized for observation. You mustn’t be careless when kids are sick. As their caregiver, you’ll have to work a bit harder.”

“Okay, doctor.”

Su Xingwan quickly explained, “Doctor, you misunderstood. I’m not their mother; I’m their aunt. Their mother has passed away.”

The doctor paused, feeling a touch embarrassed for her earlier remarks.

Before the two little ones woke, Su Xingwan returned to prepare noodles for them in advance.

When they woke, they could eat something warm.

At the hospital, Su Xingwan wanted to use the restroom, so she placed the thermal container beside the sink and went in.

In the men’s restroom, Xu Xiao came out. After washing his hands, he casually took the thermal container left by the sink.

In the ward, Lu Yun saw Xu Xiao walk in, eyeing the container in his hand. “The matriarch didn’t make millet porridge again, did she?”

A few months ago, after drinking a couple of bowls of the matriarch’s millet porridge at the family estate, she had been bringing it to him every time.

Xu Xiao smiled warmly. “This time I told the matriarch you weren’t feeling well in the hospital and wanted something different. So she made some corn and pork rib soup for you.”

“That’s more like it,” Lu Yun said.

Xu Xiao approached and opened the container, his gaze suddenly stopping.

Lu Yun asked, “What’s wrong?”

Xu Xiao frowned, “Mr. Lu, it seems the matriarch actually made noodles for you.”

“Noodles?”

Xu Xiao ladled some noodles into a bowl and handed it to Lu Yun.

Lu Yun took the bowl, sipped the broth, and his expression grew complicated.

The taste was plain, almost without salt, with a layer of egg foam floating on top and a faint fishy smell.

“Are you sure the matriarch made this?”

Xu Xiao wasn’t sure either. “I… I think so?”

“Mr. Lu, is it really bad?”

“You try it yourself.”

Hearing this, Xu Xiao took a bite of the noodles from the container, his expression matching Lu Yun’s earlier look.

How to put it— it wasn’t terrible, but it certainly wasn’t good; it tasted like something a person who barely knows how to cook could manage to make.

Xu Xiao thought this, then looked up to see Lu Yun finish the entire bowl.

He was surprised. “Mr. Lu, why did you…?”

Wasn’t it bad?

Lu Yun said calmly, “Oh, I haven’t eaten something this bad for a long time. I’m savoring the memory.”

Xu Xiao: “…”

Such a unique Mr. Lu.

Su Xingwan returned from the restroom carrying a thermal container as she entered the little ones’ ward and saw that both were awake.

Their big eyes brightened upon seeing her.

“Auntie!”

Su Xingwan smiled, “You’re awake. Are you hungry?”

Both nodded.

She lifted the thermal container, “Look what Auntie brought you?”

As she spoke, she opened the container, and a wave of steaming aroma filled the air.

“Wow! Smells so good!”

The two little ones swallowed hard, their little heads craning to see what delicious food Auntie had prepared.

After all, they had only been eating noodles Auntie made these past few days and hadn’t had anything else.

Su Xingwan stared blankly into the container filled with corn and pork rib soup.

!!! Where’s my noodles? How did it turn into corn and pork rib soup?

Still, she had to admit, the soup smelled wonderfully fragrant, making her mouth water.

The two little ones looked at her eagerly, their eyes full of longing.

“Auntie, aren’t you going to feed us?”

Su Xingwan awkwardly said, “Sweethearts, Auntie seems to have picked up the wrong thermal container. Wait a moment; I’ll go get the right one.”

Ignoring the two little ones who were already drooling behind her, she quickly left the ward.

She returned to the restroom and waited by the door, looking left and right, but no one with a thermal container like hers appeared.

Su Xingwan wondered if the other person hadn’t realized their food had been swapped yet.
