Volume One, Chapter 29: Tricks We’ve Already Used Up
As Ran Shaoqiong’s gaze fell upon her, Song Xianwan met it with composed indifference.
As their eyes locked, she caught a fleeting glimmer of disgust in Ran Shaoqiong’s gaze.
Some people are inherently detestable, regardless of what they do. Song Xianwan could not tell if this was supposed to be considered a talent of hers.
“Is this your cousin?”
Ran Shaoqiong asked, clutching Qin Sining’s hand. After the words fell, she saw Qin Sining give a slight nod.
“No,” Lin Miwan replied. “And even if I had one, I wouldn’t invite her.” This was the truth; she was penniless. The money she had earned from killing over the years had gone into this house, and the rest had been sent to her parents. Where would she find the funds?
“Stop feeding me like a pig; the doctor said I’ve had enough supplements,” Gu Liangyue whispered, wrapping her arms around his and leaning against him. A soft laugh rumbled from above, followed by the sensation of him nodding.
In the two-plus years since the start of the War of Resistance, the New 33rd Army had flourished, its reputation soaring among the common people. It was hard to imagine that even such a formidable force could encounter problems they were unable to solve.
Mo Ziyun caught it instinctively, and upon closer inspection, realized it was his own soft sword. “Thank you.” He caressed the blade as if greeting an old friend, his face glowing with delight.
Everything proceeded smoothly. Before the end of the first lunar month, Liao Fan had already completed his deployments; after all, it was better to leave the money-making to Sun Boyong.
“Kang Xin is at the hospital looking after Changsheng. They were discussing their marriage, and from what I gathered, Elder Kang is pushing for it!” Fu Hongyu said.
Okamura Yasuji had committed all his available forces, yet Liao Fan still held an ace up his sleeve: the troops under Huang Changsheng.
Watching Lian Die, Yi Hanxuan was inexplicably reminded of Wu Ming. It felt as though that time spent with her had become a distant memory; though it had been barely a year since they parted, it felt as long as a century.
Karete threw the blood-dripping steel blade to the ground and looked up at the Sea King, awaiting his verdict.
In the first year of the Eastern Land Office era, on the eleventh of January, a coup occurred within the Lan family. Lan Youtu cast out his grandfather, father, and elder brother, seizing absolute power to become the twenty-third family head. The Lan family officially entered an era of resurgence.
Ouyang’s eyes grew bloodshot, his breathing turned heavy, and his hands began to roam over Fan Aiai.
Chenxi had yet to awaken her Fate Vessel. She could sense the overwhelming pressure radiating from Xue Qianyu, but she had no concept of its true magnitude. To her, Xue Qianyu remained merely a powerful Holy Beast; the possibility of it being a Celestial Beast had likely never crossed her mind.
Suddenly, a throwing knife whistled through the air, embedding itself into the rock beside Ouyang. The vibrating hilt hummed, leaving him drenched in a cold sweat.
Ling Han stepped into the ward. The pillow lay discarded on the floor, and as he passed, he bent down to retrieve it.
“A man’s knees are worth gold. Why do the men where you come from lack such spirit, kneeling at the slightest provocation?” Meng Tian frowned, expressing his disdain for the modern habit of kneeling to propose.
Seeing Zhaolu hurry out of the room, Jun Wuye and Yin Yin, who were keeping watch in the courtyard, were quite surprised. Zhaolu had no choice but to explain that a master had arrived to treat Chen Yao and urged them not to worry.
Before long, Wei Da came running over, breathless and drenched in sweat, yet his face was illuminated by an exceptionally bright smile. Compared to the last time they met,萧凌 felt that Wei Da had grown much stronger; his skin was tanned, and he looked like an entirely different person.
“In your eyes, I have always been a child.” Ling Han whispered as he kissed the exposed skin of He Yumo.
The leaves atop the trees trembled as a massive silhouette hovered above the two people and the bird. In the final light of the horizon, one could make out a golden eagle with a wingspan of over twenty meters—twice the size of a Cloud Eagle. It was Elder Liu, who had returned.
