Volume One, Chapter 30: I Nearly Died
Suqiu nodded slightly and made a respectful gesture for Song Xianwan to lead the way.
Song Xianwan rose, cast a calm, unreadable glance at Ran Shaoqiong, and replied with a demure smile, "Then I thank you for your kindness, Sister Ran."
After bowing, she followed Suqiu out of the pavilion and walked along the corridor toward the inner courtyard.
I swallowed hard, my throat feeling parched. "A true man stands by his actions..." I looked at Wu Junxi’s large hand, squeezed my eyes shut, and shouted, "I’ll be a hero again eighteen years from now!" trying to bolster my own courage.
"Xin’er, I am Yucheng, Yucheng. You must remember me this time; do not forget." The beautiful man’s eyes sparkled, and a charming smile bloomed on his lips, sweet as honey, his very voice dripping with sweetness.
Mingzhi had not been on the front lines of the war, and later she had been sent to Earth to find Qin Si, so she had only ever seen that poisonous spider in pictures and videos. She was terrified of creatures with too many legs or none at all; just looking at the images was enough to make her skin crawl.
"Oh my, what’s happened here? Who has upset my little Xin’er?" Hearing me call out to him, Yitong swayed his hips as he stepped out of the room.
This was enough to indicate that the strength of the descendants of the Shaman line was likely not inferior to that of Wang Ming and his group. Of course, the final verdict would depend on how long it took them to pass through the Black Stairway.
Clearly, they were well aware that if those people chose to attack the four of them, they would stand no chance at all.
I don't know how they fell asleep, but the two of them had shifted from leaning against each other to her lying across Qin Si’s lap.
Li Lingshan was determined to spend the night with Old Wu Er, her goal being to secure the medicine in his possession.
The two cultivators from the Lu family, one at the first level and one at the second level of Foundation Establishment, both felt a surge of joy upon sensing Wu Tao’s aura at the fourth level of Foundation Establishment.
After an hour of cultivation, Wu Tao sensed the cave’s protective array being deactivated and immediately stopped. Sure enough, he saw Chen Yao enter the cave, though her expression appeared tinged with regret and pity.
Although Yelu Minghuang enjoyed the favor of the King of Langya, the military was different from politics; the military respected only true renowned generals and warriors who had proven themselves on the battlefield. Consequently, for all these years, he had held command over only a single royal guards legion. Now, it was clear that he intended to interfere in Yelu Minghui’s territory.
Ouyang Ruoxin looked at Lin Yu’s foolish expression and let out a soft giggle. The way this boy looked when he was angry was truly silly. Ouyang Ruoxin pondered, how could someone so naive, kind, and practically crippled possibly hurt her? With that, her heart finally relaxed.
However, Zhang Xuewu did not believe the Japanese were foolish enough to go to such lengths. It was true that large-scale decisive battles relied on weaponry and equipment, but what mattered more were overall strategy and the precision of localized, fatal strikes.
"Rest assured, with Huang Er on the job, the world is mine for the taking!" I boasted brazenly, only to be met with the sound of retching.
"I fear this is the consequence of the baleful formation spiraling out of control." The other figure in the black robe stared at the scene unfolding in the Tianque Spirit Realm, his voice filled with fury. Clearly, this was a development they had never anticipated.
Zhang Yingwu’s words left Tada Shun momentarily stunned. Upon reflection, it was indeed true—a mere major general dared to speak out of turn before him, a full general and Commander-in-Chief of the China Expeditionary Army? This was not merely a matter of disrespecting a superior, especially during the middle of a conference. Where did Nanbu Ichiro place him, his own commander?
After months of toil, Ye Fangheng and Fu Yu had both aged significantly. Their temples were dusted with gray, and the elegant, carefree air they once possessed had vanished entirely.
"Pingjiang, the Goryeo navy, under the command of Fu Yishan, has circled to our south, cutting off our path to escape overseas," Park Zhicheng remarked, his voice drifting aimlessly.
