Qin Songting bent down and climbed into the carriage, where he saw Song Xianwan leaning against the carriage wall with her eyes closed, resting.
He sat down on his own without saying a word.
The carriage set off again. The two of them left Changlu County and returned to the Song residence.
“Song Xianwan.”
Just as she was about to step down from the carriage, Qin Songting called out to her.
Song Xianwan turned to look at him. Her reflection appeared in those deep, shadowy eyes.
A place of certain death was one from which no chance of survival remained. Once someone entered, they were doomed to be slain.
He did not ask what the other party intended to use it for. That had nothing to do with him. All he had to do was complete the exchange and obtain the Short-Sky Flower. Then he would see whether it was truly as miraculous as claimed and could really grant entry into Lion Plains.
None of this was particularly secret. It was merely that Chen Danqing had rarely come into contact with such matters.
The leader of the Twin-Horned Heavenly Python tribe looked at Third Master Mei, who was sitting on the ground with an utterly composed expression. Not only was he not angered; his eyes were instead filled with profound admiration.

What surprised Lin Fan, however, was that his bitter-cultivation points had not increased this time. It seemed that only being hacked to death by someone else could increase them.
“Looking for death!”
The cultivators flew into a rage. In an instant, they unleashed their martial techniques. Each of those techniques was extraordinarily profound, and the nine cultivators attacked simultaneously, transforming into a barrage of martial arts.
The only flaw was that the great fat man happened to be bald. The top of his head was smooth and bare, without a single strand of hair.
People were muttering within the great hall. Most of them were senior experts from Nightcool Mountain, yet even with their status, they understood very little about many matters.
But that only made Lin Yan more eager to find out, because Yun Yao’s expression had been extremely complicated after she returned that day.
If it had been him, he certainly would not have been able to hold back from attacking. As for those great powers, he would be deeply disappointed if they truly failed to come.
Although he was merely a gatekeeper, he was still a member of the Tranquil Frontier Army. When he scolded Pan Xiang with a stern face, he was ferocious enough to seem as though he might lash out and strike her at any moment.
This temptation was impossible for Lin Yuan to refuse. He did not know what the game was really about, nor what the higher-ups in the real world were planning. He knew only that without sufficient strength, he could not even protect the orphanage.
Kurata and Nakamura entered the interrogation room together. They appeared before Fu Xinghan with menacing airs. Kurata was furious beyond measure; he raised his hand and struck Fu Xinghan heavily across the face, leaving him seeing stars as blood poured from the corner of his mouth.
She remembered her brother saying that Boss Chen had initially thought he was an opium addict and refused to let him work at the shop. In the end, it was only because Fu Yun’an spoke up that her brother obtained his first job.

Red Pearl knew that punishment was unavoidable this time. She knelt there meekly with her eyes lowered and said that she would not dare do it again.
“We’ve found a water source.”
The message came through the talisman paper—the paper talisman Zhou Shu had given them for communication.
Of course, although the manuscript in his hands contained fifteen thousand words, it was clearly only the beginning, and not much could be discerned from it.
“Er, Hero Ju, why don’t you travel with my army?”
Liu Tianhao turned toward Ju Yi, who was already looking somewhat tense beside him.
Relying on his superb medical skills, he had won the trust and affection of the foreigners, building a network of connections among them. At the same time, he had taken over the influence his second elder brother had established in Shanghai and begun trading with people he had met while abroad.
The first person to recover trembled as he moved his feet, trying to escape. But in the next instant, a sharp beast claw pierced his throat. His eyes remained wide open, and even in death they were filled with slowly spreading terror.
These academies, whether their disciples or their masters, had all put away their contempt. Instead, they now regarded the Spirit Insect Academy as a formidable rival capable of contending with the Four Great Academies.
They had not yet reached the front hall when numerous mutilated corpses appeared across the corridor. The bodies seethed with boundless resentment and carried an overwhelming murderous aura.
