Chapter 13: Why Don't You Tell Her the Truth?
This guy’s got some skills!
That was exactly the awkward situation Sister Yan and I were facing right now.
Yang Xincheng had also advised Sister Yan and me several times, urging us to avoid getting involved in such matters.
We assured him repeatedly that we would never engage in anything illegal, merely exercising citizens’ legitimate right to know by investigating those issues.
Of course, many times we did cross the line, but in most cases, those caught were too overwhelmed dealing with their personal affairs to pursue us.
Even if they did, we had our ways of handling it.
But someone coming directly to our door, and knowing the legal clauses so clearly—that was a first.
“Chen Yinan! You bastard!” A sharp shout at the door broke the tense atmosphere around Sister Yan and me.
The person rushing in was the fashionable woman Sister Yan had seen off yesterday. Sister Yan had mentioned her name was Su Huishan.
Chen Yinan’s expression changed the moment he heard that voice. His earlier composure vanished instantly. He turned to flee and asked me without looking back, “Buddy, where’s the back door?”
I glared at him impatiently. “There’s no back door here!”
Su Huishan had already burst in, leaving Chen Yinan nowhere to hide. As he turned around, his face twisted into a forced smile.
“Shanshan, you’re here? Long time no see. How have you been?”
Su Huishan’s face turned pale with anger. Gritting her teeth, she pointed at him and shouted, “Tell me, who were you with yesterday?”
Chen Yinan smiled and replied, “Yesterday? Let me think. In the morning, I was with Hu Fangting—the one I dated in college, you know her.
At noon, I had lunch with Liao Meifang from work.
In the afternoon, I went to the Tidal Observation Tower with your close friend Xiaona, and spent the night at Tiger’s place.”
I was utterly amazed by this guy’s frankness!
Was he really that honest?
Su Huishan flew into a rage. Her eyes reddened as she lunged forward, trying to grab Chen Yinan’s face. He deftly dodged and slipped behind me.
Seeing her extreme agitation, Sister Yan hurried over and embraced her gently. “Shanshan, don’t get so worked up. Just say what you mean clearly.”
Su Huishan cursed bitterly, “Chen Yinan, why are you doing this to me? For two years, I’ve been devoted to you, but you? You’ve been secretly involved with so many women. Are you even human?”
Chen Yinan sighed. “Shanshan, can you stop being so shallow? I’m just a cameraman. Those girls are just normal work colleagues!”
“Shallow?” Su Huishan finally broke down in tears. Through her sobs, she said to Chen Yinan:
“Can you stop using such childish excuses to deceive me?
If you’d at least put some thought into making up a better reason, I might believe you care about me!
But you never even bother to lie convincingly!
Chen Yinan, do you really think no one wants me once I leave you?
Don’t forget, it was your father who came to my house proposing in the first place!
If you treat me like this, fine—don’t you dare regret it later!”
She turned to Sister Yan. “Yan, let go of me!”
Sister Yan hesitated briefly, then released her.
Su Huishan wiped the tears from her face and coldly told Chen Yinan, “From now on, the Su family is no longer connected to your Chen family!”
Chen Yinan gave a bitter smile. “Shanshan, don’t be so impulsive. Why drag our families into this? Can’t you be a little more optimistic?”
“You bastard!” Su Huishan, who was about to leave, exploded at those words. She charged recklessly, pulling me away forcefully!
Her fingernail scratched me, and my sunglasses fell to the ground.
Sister Yan gasped and rushed over. “Shitou, are you okay?”
“I’m fine!” I quickly reassured her, then turned to watch the two who were now grappling.
It wasn’t really a fight—more like a one-sided beating.
Su Huishan seemed to have held back for too long and finally unleashed her fury, clawing and kicking Chen Yinan.
“You bastard! For you, I even rejected Tao Er’s advances and stayed loyal to you!
But you, you scumbag, always chasing after other women and fooling around with those shameless girls. I’m your girlfriend! You don’t touch them, but you don’t touch me either. What do you take me for?
If you hated me so much, you shouldn’t have agreed to the family arrangement. Why agree and then treat me like this?”
Strangely, Chen Yinan stood there like a log, not fighting back, not even dodging.
Sister Yan and I were so frightened we rushed to pull them apart, but suddenly my left eye stung sharply—I grabbed Sister Yan’s arm.
“What’s wrong, Shitou?” Sister Yan looked at me oddly, then scolded, “What are you doing? Close your eyes!”
I shook my head, confused. How could this be happening?
Seeing Chen Yinan’s face now covered in blood and his clothes torn to shreds, Sister Yan and I hurried over to separate Su Huishan.
Su Huishan sobbed and asked Chen Yinan, “Why did you lie to me?”
Chen Yinan’s once handsome face was scratched and bleeding. He didn’t take the tissue I handed him but smiled at Su Huishan and said, “I didn’t lie! Everything I said is true!”
Su Huishan, furious again, wanted to rush at him but was stopped by Sister Yan. Seeing Chen Yinan’s sorry state, perhaps out of pity or despair, she stomped her foot and wept as she left.
Sister Yan wanted to follow but couldn’t catch up. She sighed, then went inside and soon returned with a first aid kit.
“Shitou, bring him over and have him sit. I’ll clean his wounds.”
I stuffed the tissue into Chen Yinan’s hand and told him to wipe the blood off himself. Then I asked, “Why didn’t you tell her the truth?”
“The truth?” Chen Yinan paused, looking at me. “What truth?”
I picked up my sunglasses and put them back on. “The truth is, nothing happened between you and that girl last night. Or rather, nothing happened between you and any of those girls.”
Earlier, I had been forced to use the Spirit Eye to take a look at Chen Yinan and was surprised to find him remarkably “clean.”
By “clean,” I meant his private life was not chaotic; no traces of others’ energy lingered on him.
Usually, this was the case only for children or those who had never been involved with the opposite sex—people who kept themselves pure and restrained.
Such a state shouldn’t belong to the man before me.
Just last night, I saw him checking into a hotel with a woman, and when he ran out, he was stark naked!
Chen Yinan’s eyes widened in shock. “So what Xiaona said was true? You’re quite something, aren’t you? Do you have special powers? How else would you know?”
I tapped my forehead, speechless.
This guy’s nerve was extraordinary!
After getting himself into such a mess, he still cares about these things—doesn’t his face hurt?
Sister Yan came over, pulled him down to sit, and began disinfecting and treating his wounds.
It wasn’t that we feared he’d hold a grudge; seeing his true self, both Sister Yan and I felt a pang of guilt, realizing we had misjudged a good man.
Sister Yan had overheard my earlier conversation with Chen Yinan and now understood why I’d looked the way I did before.
She looked at Chen Yinan and asked, “Do you want me to help explain things to Shanshan?”
“Will she believe me?” Chen Yinan smiled faintly at Sister Yan. “Every word I say is the truth, but she never believes me.”
