Volume One, Chapter 37: The Rules
Upon reaching the bottom of the rift, Xia Yuan discovered a turbulent river, so wide it could be called a great waterway. Spanning it was a suspension bridge constructed of thick, welded iron chains and metal, with a remarkably broad deck.
The two figures in black cloaks walked into the gates of Bizhen City without incident, as if walking to their own execution, having not encountered a single formidable opponent along the way.
Exhausted, Ye Zheng suddenly realized a grave problem: had he, too, been brainwashed by the methods of the cultivation world, forced to believe in nonsensical things like Dr. Chen’s "Human Cannon"? He searched his memories for a long time but could recall no such absurdity, which managed to restore a sliver of his confidence.
Princess Junqi watched Ye Feng, who was wiping sweat from his brow with a guilty expression, and could not help but giggle to herself.
"Do you know why mortals seeking to enter the Dao must soak their bodies in beast blood to temper their bones and sinews?" the man in the mountain asked, interrupting Jiang Dongyu’s contemplation.
Xia Yuan admired the style of Sky Sword and the others; it reminded him of the old days of the Hidden Dragon unit. There was something magnificent about that spirit—even knowing they were walking into hell, they would do so singing. Wasn't this the kind of team the country needed? In the words of Old Zhou: never flinching before an enemy, never fearing an opponent, and achieving victory in every engagement.
The first to be knocked out by the drinking was the protagonist, Yin Yimo, who was carried off to rest in his own bed by the tipsy Gan Guyu. Then, the rest of the group began their relentless bombardment of toasts against him.
At this moment, Ouyang Feng was not the Ouyang Feng he usually knew, and Li Yanyang was not the Li Yanyang she usually knew. Here and now, in this setting, everything was different.
He had seen Peng Zhi’s usual demeanor; why was he being so servile, as if meeting someone of great importance? Had he taken the wrong medicine?
Han Zhenhan was not a man made of mud, and even a clay figurine has a breaking point. But no sooner had he finished speaking than three voices erupted from the court in perfect unison.
Although the assurance brought a sense of relief to Tian Xin, she still could not be entirely at ease.
In an instant, the entire Ancient City of Divine Light became a ghost town. Inside, only Chu He remained, sitting amidst the void, inhaling massive amounts of heaven and earth energy as if he were a bottomless black hole.
It seemed that thing’s methods of concealment were indeed formidable. No wonder the Main God had never discovered it; if the Main God hadn't left behind a contingency plan, it would have been too late.
Without caring whether he was steady on his feet, the manager scrambled toward Ling Yefeng, desperate to latch onto his powerful support at any cost.
The day after Ai Mingshan returned to the Ai family estate, news arrived from the city: the Luo residence had sent the Ma woman, her younger brother, and Ma Shenzhi to the magistrate's office.
He had been married for nearly three years, but his wife had yet to conceive; now that Yu Jiaqi was pregnant, he had to stay.
Lin Jiajia knew Lu Pan’s train of thought—she surely assumed she was bringing a man—and she found herself suddenly looking forward to meeting Lu Pan even more.
"What is it?" It was rare for Ai Qiaoqiao to ask him for something, and Ai Mingshan felt a sudden sense of elder pride.
Seeing the setup, which could accommodate every employee working at the Yu family headquarters, the tension Tian Xin had just managed to suppress surged once again.
"So what! Even if I tear the sky apart, there will be someone to cover for me! I don't care about the consequences; I only know that you hit my people!" Qin Xiuxiu shouted.
"Since you are unwilling to accept the position of Imperial Son, I shall take my leave," Wei Liao sneered, flicking his sleeves and departing.
"No!" Poppy’s face flushed red with anxiety. Snow Lotus had already snatched one fruit, and she had none; she needed it to lay a foundation for concocting pills in the future.
Min Zuxin picked up the receiver and said nothing, his eyes eventually narrowing into slits as he revealed a flicker of hard-to-detect craftiness.
Lu Chen did not intend to go to the inner sect’s Qi Gathering Palace for seclusion. A single night of cultivation yielded little progress; for now, he simply had to wait for Yun Bufan to gather the spiritual herbs.
Ao Yulie was skilled at summoning wind and rain, thunder and lightning, but he could not handle "fire"—at most, he could manage a symbolic gesture.
If one defied them, they would end up like Leng Yuanjie, tortured until they were neither human nor ghost.
"I only picked it up to take a look; if the price were reasonable, I would have bought it. But he demanded five hundred purple crystal coins the moment he opened his mouth!" Jun Wushuang said, frowning.
Wu Xia suddenly threw her arms around Li Yu’s shoulders, pressing her soft frame against him; even through two layers of clothing, the soft touch enveloped his arm.
It was hard to imagine just how terrifying the Demon Emperor must have been in his time. Ten thousand years had passed, and though he had fallen long ago, his remaining Sacred Heart was still beyond comprehension.
"Mother, did I hear correctly? The eldest master wants to ask for my hand in marriage?" Qin Lian'er asked, her tone filled with astonishment.
It had taken Su Xiyun less than half an hour from entering the magistrate’s office to leaving. Since her appointment with Granny Sun was still half an hour away, she decided to stroll through the streets.
Thinking that if she didn't make things clear, Li Chuan might pull this stunt again at noon, Jiang Wu took a deep breath.
After finishing the chat, Qin Xiong thought for a moment and decisively started following the editor's instructions.
At the edge of the world, starlight flowed like water, a vast, pale expanse falling toward the earth and converging in one place.
On Li Chuan’s chest, a brilliantly vivid Manjusaka flower bloomed, its blood-red color standing out against his pale, slightly bleeding skin—a truly eye-catching sight.
He had been there at the time, and Su Ning had only been bothered by it; she hadn't expected Li Boyan to remember.
Just as I walked into the hospital lobby, I saw the mother and son who had been burning paper at the intersection earlier. Someone in a white lab coat handed her a stack of papers. Seeing her blank expression, I thought about offering some comfort, as the dead are gone and the living must look forward.
The two left the guard’s quarters, pondering why the Prince’s attitude had suddenly changed, when they heard his cold voice again.
Several elves were about to stand up and shout at Arde, but before they could move, Elfra and Aila blocked them.
Before them, a large pot of red chili oil bubbled, and pre-cut tripe sat on an ice platter, radiating a chilling mist. Above, a crystal chandelier cast a soft, gentle glow. This hotpot restaurant by the Qingjiang River only took reservations, and the few customers at nearby tables spoke in hushed tones.
