First Encounter: The Car Accident During the Honeymoon Phase
For more than two months afterward, they dated frequently.
When the holiday arrived, Lin Xinyu was sent back to her hometown by her father...
Her family was fairly well-off, and her father promised that after she went back to watch the work for a day, once the laborers had been paid, whatever money remained would be hers.
So Lin Xinyu agreed to return with her father.
After getting out of the car, what met her eyes was her family’s self-built villa in the hometown, sprawling over an area like a small mountain, rising all the way up the hillside.
“Wow, Dad, when did you build this villa?” Lin Xinyu’s eyes shone.
“A few months ago I saw something nice on short videos and had it built. How is it? Your old man has good taste, right?” Lin’s father beamed the moment he saw the villa he had built.
“Really, two thousand for one day of supervising the work? You’re not fooling me, are you?” Lin Xinyu asked again to confirm.
“When have I ever fooled you?” Lin’s father shot her a glance.
Two days later, Lin Xinyu could no longer sit still and drove around everywhere.
Then, while passing a narrow road just after rain, the ground was covered with moss. Before she could brake, the car had already skidded across it.
The car overturned by the roadside, and she was hurled out. After a moment to steady herself, Lin Xinyu quickly stood up and touched the back of her neck. Blood had already run down her back...
An aunt nearby saw Lin Xinyu and the blood on the road and hurriedly called emergency services. “How are you? Can you still walk? Do you want to sit down first?” “Why were you so careless? Are you hurt? I saw you bleeding so much, so I already called an ambulance.” The aunt rushed over anxiously to ask about her condition.
“Auntie, I should be fine. Thank you,” Lin Xinyu said, still dazed. She only felt a dull ache at the back of her head. Then she walked to the side of the car and picked up her phone from the ground.
A short while later, the ambulance arrived. After asking about the situation, Lin Xinyu got into the ambulance and lay down.
On the way, Lin Xinyu opened WeChat and sent Wang Zeyu a message: “I was in a car accident.”
Because the county’s medical facilities were incomplete and not as advanced as those in the city, Lin Xinyu was thus rushed in great haste to the city by ambulance.
In the ambulance, her phone kept ringing. They were all calls from home, and Lin Xinyu had no choice but to answer them, telling them not to worry and that she was fine.
But gradually, she felt increasingly dizzy, and her eyelids grew too heavy to lift. Just like that, she drifted off to sleep.
By the time Lin Xinyu woke, she was already at a city hospital.
Outside the emergency room, Lin Xinyu’s stepmother waited anxiously.
Only when Lin Xinyu was finally pushed out did the stepmother’s tightly strung heart at last settle down.
Lin Xinyu woke again in the emergency department while waiting for her admission to be arranged.
She picked up her phone once more, opened WeChat, looked at Wang Zeyu’s messages, and replied: “I’m okay now. I just came out of the emergency room.”
After receiving Lin Xinyu’s reply, the heavy stone in Wang Zeyu’s heart finally fell away. He quickly placed a video call to her, knowing full well that she might not be in a convenient state to answer, but unable to resist the urge to hear her voice with his own ears and confirm that she was truly safe.
When the call connected, Wang Zeyu’s voice carried a trace of barely perceptible trembling: “Baby, are you really okay? I’m on my way to the hospital. I want to see you. Which department are you in?”
Wang Zeyu quickened his pace, his heart filled with an urgent longing to see Lin Xinyu. He imagined the moment they would meet and silently prayed that she would recover soon.
At the same time, he began planning how to give her more companionship and support during this period, to help her get through this difficult time.
On the other end of the call, Lin Xinyu let out a soft sigh. Though her voice was still weak, her tone was unusually firm: “No need. Thank you for caring so much, but I need to rest now, and I also need some time to deal with everything this accident has brought. Don’t come for now. When I’m a little better, let’s meet again, all right?”
Though Wang Zeyu felt somewhat disappointed, he nodded in understanding and said, “All right. Rest well. If you need anything, tell me anytime. I’ll be here whenever you’re ready.” His tone was full of tenderness and understanding, as if telling Lin Xinyu that whenever she needed him, he would be her strongest support.
After hanging up, Wang Zeyu was reluctant to let go, but he knew that the most important thing now was to give Lin Xinyu enough space and time so she could recover in peace. Silently, he began to pray for her, hoping she would soon emerge from this gloom and find that vibrant self of hers once more.
In the days that followed, Wang Zeyu checked on her and greeted her every day, and he also wanted to visit Lin Xinyu. But Lin Xinyu did not want Wang Zeyu to see her in her present state, so she refused him once again.
A few days later, Lin Xinyu was discharged from the hospital.
