Volume 1, Chapter 33: Whose Side Are You Really On?
Zhang Miao was busy with official business at his computer when he caught sight of Qiao Ye, his brow furrowing slightly.
"What brings President Qiao here?"
His gaze was openly guarded. Finding this amusing, Qiao Ye sat down and asked deliberately, "President Zhang, you have been with the company for five years now, haven't you?"
Zhang Miao grunted in acknowledgment, unconsciously straightening his posture. "If you have something to say, President Qiao, please be direct. There is no need for us to reminisce."
"Straight to the point, then. I shall ask plainly."
Resting his chin on one hand, his eyes, clear as a mountain lake, were fixed intently on the movement of the pieces on the chessboard, his expression showing a rare, earnest focus.
The room was filled with insiders. The director, a man of impatient temperament, bypassed any formal notification process, and with a few well-placed words from others, the decision was made on the spot.
Chen Yuan stood silently alone within the ancestral hall, before him the spirit tablets of the many Chen ancestors.
Sheng Nuo’s tulle dress was soaked through and looked quite unsightly. Without any affectation, she wrapped herself in a coat and fled as if escaping.
The Chen family had always been of one mind, sharing both honor and hardship; even in the darkest of times, they never abandoned or gave up on one another.
This world was home not only to powerful martial artists capable of leaping over walls and slaying ordinary men as easily as crushing chicks, but also to terrifying, eerie demons and ghosts that lurked in the shadows, feeding on human souls.
The residents only wanted money; they had no intention of actually tearing down the demolition office. Hearing Xiao Yang’s words, they fell silent one by one, finally bringing a moment of peace to the world.
When they had divorced, she and Xiao Yang had already severed their ties. Ye Qingxue could not understand why Xiao Yang would help her find an apartment—was it out of guilt, or a desire to compensate her?
Even the head of the household, Father Sun, could not get a word in, and his wife was so enraged that she fainted on the spot.
In such a wild and ancient world, what manner of being could create such a horrifying scene with a single blow of raw physical power?
Beidou Xing immediately called Amia to get Li Haoran’s number; it was better not to let Li Huimin know about this for now.
Clad in battle armor, Feng Xingyue’s aura surged several times over, instantly reaching the level of a high-tier Grandmaster. With a single thrust of his sword, it seemed as if even the barriers of the void were distorted and folded. In an instant, he arrived before the Kui Ox Demon King.
Song Tianmo countered with a question of his own, his eyes flickering with a strange light, as if he were struggling to suppress something deep within.
"Brother Ding’s focus is profound. My Peerless Technique ends here; I could not shake your resolve. In this duel, I, Wushuang, concede with full conviction." The Fairy of Heavenly Strings parted her red lips; her voice was round and melodious, like pearls rolling on a jade plate, carrying a soul-stirring charm.
Picking up her chopsticks, she ate with great relish, muttering incessantly about how delicious the food was, even with her mouth full.
Sure enough, with another loud crash, Li Zifeng landed on the man in military uniform just as expected.
"What?" Ye Lainiang was startled. "When did this happen?" The two families had exchanged New Year gifts, and she had heard nothing of this from the servants. "Do you know the reason?" Could that old woman be causing trouble again?
A sensation of scorching heat and numbness spread across her skin, as if she had suddenly been placed over a roaring fire to roast.
Mu Jinxi set down her cup and slammed it onto the table, nearly scaring Ye Batian into wetting himself. He dared not look up at her, kneeling on the ground and begging for mercy in silence.
Jing Bainian looked at Chi Yuanxia with a complex expression, then silently glanced at Xia Weixi, who was taking photos not far away.
Xu Dong saw Jiang Xiuyun walking over in the mirror, and suddenly, the blood began to flow more heavily from his nose.
Feng Jiuxiao pulled back her sleeve to reveal skin as smooth as jade, emanating a faint, lustrous glow.
She performed an examination on the patient. When she reached the plantar reflex test, Jiang Xiuhe had already lost hope, but she suddenly noticed the patient’s toes twitching ever so slightly. This discovery left her momentarily stunned.
