Chu Xun carefully supported Yao Shan by the arm, taking each step with extreme caution, afraid that she might suffer even the slightest mishap.
Yao Shan, however, walked steadily, her eyes shining with boundless anticipation for the future and unwavering confidence.
Once they were in the car, Chu Xun fastened Yao Shan’s seat belt with meticulous care before starting the engine and slowly driving toward the company.
Along the way, both their spirits were as bright as the radiant sunshine, filled with hope and warmth.
“Oh, Shanshan, you’re back so soon?” The moment Yao Shan stepped through the company entrance, she ran into Chu Xun’s father.
Chu Xun had already briefly told his father about Yao Shan’s condition. To avoid causing unnecessary worry, however, he had merely mentioned that she needed to be hospitalized for treatment, without revealing the heartbreaking diagnosis of advanced stomach cancer.
Chu Xun’s father had originally intended for Yao Shan to rest peacefully in the hospital and only consider returning to work after she had fully recovered. After all, while she was recuperating, he was personally overseeing the company, and everything was running normally. Her temporary absence would not have any substantial impact.
What he had not expected was that, after only two days, Yao Shan would hurry back to the company.
The instant Chu Xun’s father saw her, surprise flashed across his face. But it was soon replaced by deep concern, which softened into a warm smile.
He stepped forward. His tone carried a hint of reproach, but far more strongly, it conveyed his barely concealed heartache and concern.
“You really are a troublesome child. You haven’t even fully recovered yet—why have you rushed back to work? Don’t you know that your health is the most important thing of all?”
His words were filled with the affection and worry an elder felt for a younger member of the family.
In the face of his concern, Yao Shan remained remarkably calm. Smiling, she replied, “Mr. Chu, please don’t worry. I’m truly fine now. The doctor even said that I could engage in a little activity to help with my recovery. Besides, I’ve been worried about the company this whole time. I simply couldn’t feel at ease while away from my post, so I decided to come back and help as soon as possible.”
Her tone was firm and resolute, and her eyes held an unmistakable determination, as though silently declaring that no matter what condition her body was in, she would never easily abandon her responsibilities.
Chu Xun’s father let out a deep sigh. He knew that no amount of persuasion would change her mind now, so he nodded helplessly.
“All right. Since you’re so determined, then come back to work for now. But you must be careful not to overexert yourself. Your health is what matters most.”

He admonished her earnestly, his eyes overflowing with tenderness and concern.
Standing to one side, Chu Xun silently listened to every word his father said, secretly breathing a sigh of relief.
He knew that with his father’s support and understanding, Yao Shan’s spirits would surely improve.
He gently patted Yao Shan on the shoulder, signaling with his eyes that she need not worry too much—that everything would be all right.
Afterward, Yao Shan slowly entered the office with Chu Xun accompanying her.
The moment their colleagues saw her, they gathered around her and immediately began asking about her health. Their words were filled with sincere concern and warm greetings.
With a smile on her face, Yao Shan answered everyone’s questions one by one, that warm smile never leaving her lips.
Her return seemed to breathe fresh vitality into the office, which had previously felt somewhat subdued, instantly making the atmosphere lighter and more cheerful.
Chu Xun stood quietly to one side, silently observing Yao Shan’s every movement to make sure she was all right. In his heart, he prayed that she would adjust smoothly to the pace of work and face no further difficulties.
“How is the project we’re competing with the Pei Group for progressing?”
After organizing the work at hand, Yao Shan immediately went to Chu Xun’s father’s office.
She was deeply concerned about this major project, which would affect the company’s future development, and was eager to learn the latest developments.
“While you were away, the Pei Group continued to compete fiercely with us.”
When Chu Xun’s father saw her enter, he set down the documents in his hands and answered gravely.

A trace of weariness colored his voice, clearly revealing the tremendous pressure he had been under.
His brow furrowed slightly, and deep concern showed in his eyes as he continued in detail. “They haven’t only been forcing prices lower and lower in an attempt to seize market share through a low-price strategy. They’ve also resorted to all manner of tactics, including commercial bribery and malicious slander, in an effort to poach our long-standing clients. As things stand, the situation is indeed very unfavorable for us—severe, one might say.”
After hearing this, Yao Shan showed little reaction. Instead, she appeared even more composed and determined.
She gently patted Chu Xun’s father on the shoulder, her voice brimming with confidence and resolve.
“Mr. Chu, please rest assured. Now that I’m back, I’ll devote myself to this competition with everything I have. The Pei Group may be powerful, but that doesn’t mean we have no chance. As long as all our employees stand united, make full use of our strengths, and devise practical and effective strategies, we can certainly secure an advantageous position in this competition—and perhaps even turn defeat into victory.”
A resolute light gleamed in her eyes, as though she could already see the first glimmer of dawn heralding victory.
Chu Xun’s father gazed gently at Yao Shan’s confident, radiant face. The heavy worry in his heart seemed to be slightly eased by the force of her self-assurance.
He knew that Yao Shan had been tenacious from childhood and had never been one to give up easily. No matter what difficulties or challenges she faced, once she made up her mind to struggle and fight for what she wanted, there was hardly any obstacle she could not overcome.
Thus, Chu Xun’s father nodded lightly and said in a warm, encouraging tone, “Good. Since you’re so confident and sure of yourself, then let’s join hands and work together. Don’t worry—I’ll give my wholehearted support to every decision you make. Everyone in the company will stand united and work together to face and overcome the formidable challenge ahead.”
At his words, the corners of Yao Shan’s lips curved into a calm yet resolute smile. Her bright eyes shone with an indomitable spirit and an unwavering determination to press forward.
She said nothing more. Instead, she turned and walked steadily toward her desk.
The moment she reached her seat, Yao Shan swiftly entered work mode. She immersed herself completely in an in-depth study of the Pei Group’s competitive strategy, analyzing every detail with painstaking care in an attempt to find the key to breaking through their predicament.
