Volume One, Chapter 16: I'll Go for a Run First, Then Come Find You for a Back Rub
The next morning, Zhao Rui sent a message, asking Zhang Han if he was going to Fulai Village.
Zhang Han replied that he wasn’t going, saying he would call once the property transfer was done in the county seat. Meanwhile, he took the initiative to find Yang Song, saying he wanted to treat him to a meal.
Yang Song was lying on his bed at home, listlessly playing games. When he saw Zhang Han reach out to him, he thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. Confirming it was indeed Zhang Han, he decisively betrayed his teammates and went AFK.
“The God of Wealth is looking for me, and I’m still playing games?”
He jumped off the bed, still in his boxers, and rushed out shouting, “Mom! Mom!”
Liu Yan, humming as she cooked breakfast in the kitchen, was startled and quickly opened the door. “W-what’s wrong? What happened?”
“Zhang Han found me! He wants to take me shopping and treat me to a meal!”
Yang Song hugged Liu Yan excitedly and kissed her on the forehead. “Mom, you’re amazing! Last night you said Zhang Han might look for me today, and he actually did.”
Liu Yan blushed as if recalling something. “Forget the past for now. Just get along well with Zhang Han.”
“Sure, Mom.” Yang Song stared at her rosy, glowing face. “Mom, you look like you’ve gotten prettier.”
“Huh? R-really?” Liu Yan wiped her face awkwardly with the back of her hand.
“Definitely!” Yang Song was surprised. “You look much younger, like you’re in love.”
Liu Yan lightly tapped Yang Song’s head. “If your dad heard you say that, he’d beat you up.”
Yang Song’s smile froze suddenly, filled with jealousy. “Why did Zhang Han win over ten million in the lottery? Heaven must be blind. After a while, I’m going to find a way to beat him!”
Liu Yan’s heart tightened inexplicably. “Xiao Song, that’s not right.”
“Not right?” Yang Song looked at her puzzled.
“School starts in just over a month. You haven’t even bought me the Apple set you promised. I don’t even know if we have enough money for me to go to school!”
“If Zhang Han has it, why can’t I?”
Yang Song clenched his fists tightly, veins bulging on his forehead.
“Xiao Song, don’t—” Liu Yan was anxious.
Last night’s experience with Zhang Han was something she would never forget; once a woman’s body has been conquered, her mind gradually follows.
“Mom, I’m off.” Yang Song’s phone vibrated—it was Zhang Han, sending him a hundred yuan for a taxi.
Yang Song put on his clothes and shoes and left the house.
Twenty minutes later, they met at the mall entrance.
Yang Song wore a desperate, fawning smile, as he had to borrow money from Zhang Han to please him. He hurried over, but as soon as he was close, Zhang Han lifted his leg and kicked him hard in the stomach, cursing, “Yang Song, you son of a bitch!”
Caught off guard, Yang Song collapsed to the ground, stunned, staring at Zhang Han.
Zhang Han burst into laughter and stretched out his hand. “It’s even now.”
Yang Song immediately smiled, grabbing Zhang Han’s hand tightly. “I knew you would forgive me. We were best friends in high school.”
“You were there for me through my toughest times.”
“Has your university acceptance letter arrived?” Zhang Han asked as they walked into the mall.
“Not yet, but it’s a done deal. I’m pretty sure I got into a top university.”
“What did your dad prepare for you?” Zhang Han teased.
“Sigh.” Yang Song’s spirit deflated. “Don’t mention it. He said he’d only buy me a domestic phone, no computer or tablet, let alone Apple products.”
Zhang Han grinned, raising an eyebrow. “Want some?”
Yang Song bumped his shoulder. “What, you gonna buy them for me?”
“Call me daddy.”
“I’ll beat you up.”
For a moment, they felt like high school again, speaking without reservations, sharing a bottle of cola, never minding each other’s company.
“They all called me ‘godfather’ in the group chat. I only sent them a thousand.”
“But they called him godfather,” Yang Song laughed. “If you don’t mind, I’ll call you godfather too.”
Among high school boys, calling each other godfather over a tissue, a spicy strip, or a girl’s WeChat was normal—it was just playful teasing.
But Yang Song didn’t know Zhang Han was serious.
“Fine then,” Zhang Han said. “Call me that and I’ll buy it for you.”
Yang Song hugged Zhang Han tightly. “Godfather.”
“Good boy, let’s go buy some Apple stuff.”
Inside the Apple store, Zhang Han bought the full Apple set, spending around forty thousand yuan without batting an eye.
Yang Song held the Apple products, green with envy but also intoxicated by the thrill of spending.
He waved his hand and bought without hesitation; the looks people gave him felt different now.
What a rush!
“Let’s go eat.”
Zhang Han took Yang Song to eat, then to a maid café, a borderline massage parlor—he treated him to the best experiences, until Zhao Rui called and Zhang Han left.
Yang Song waved. “Godfather, where are we going tomorrow?”
“I’ll show you the deepest views.”
Zhang Han got in the car and lit a cigarette. High schoolers are the most easily lost—they think making money is easy and spending is fun, which contrasts sharply with their current family situations.
Normally, when Yang Song got into university, Yang Zhongrui would have bought him the Apple set without hesitation.
But now, he was willing but powerless.
More than ten minutes later, Zhang Han took a taxi to the transfer office. With Liu Zhong and Zhao Rui’s help, everything was nearly done. They even brought the bank over. After Zhang Han signed the papers and paid the remainder, he instantly became broke.
He was left owning only 4,700 square meters of buildings in Fulai Village and an 1,800-square-meter yard!
And his bank balance was down to just over a million yuan.
“Xiao Han, how do you want to thank me?” Liu Zhong was absolutely sure Zhang Han was losing money but still wanted to squeeze every bit of value from this “bootlicker.”
After everything was settled, Zhang Han was supposed to transfer the discounted money to him, but he frowned. “Uncle, here’s the thing...”
Zhang Han rambled. “Uncle, I know you’re not short on money. You won’t mind if I pay you a bit later, right?”
This sudden twist caught Liu Zhong off guard.
What? Was he really being played by this kid?
He was clearly irritated but held back, since the money was still in his hands. If he caused a scene and Zhang Han dragged it out...
Most importantly, they hadn’t signed a contract; it was all verbal.
Liu Zhong regretted his haste and was shocked that this obedient bootlicker had played him like that.
He had been careless and hadn’t dodged it.
But he wasn’t afraid—Liu Xin was here.
“I’ll transfer you 200,000 first. In a few days, I’ll sell the 100-plus square meter house near the school and pay you the rest,” Zhang Han reassured Liu Zhong.
“Tsk, what do you take me for?” Liu Zhong was displeased but flattered. “I’m still waiting for you to grow a golden phoenix at your chicken farm.”
The three of them ate and laughed together. Liu Zhong’s phone rang, and he hurried outside to answer before rushing off.
Zhang Han had no objections; it was just him and Zhao Rui left, cozy and intimate.
Zhao Rui stretched proudly, her gaze seductive and fixed on Zhang Han. “It’s been a long day. Xiao Han, help me scrub my back tonight.”
Zhang Han smiled. “No problem, Sister Rui.”
“I’m going for a run first, then I’ll scrub your back.”
“Then you’d better finish your run quickly,” Zhao Rui pouted coquettishly.
