Chapter 10: Opportunity and Passing the Assessment
"I'll take this mission!"
Luo Feng gritted his teeth. He decided to go all in; even if he failed and Xu Xin rejected him outright, it would at least provide closure for the years he had spent harboring a secret crush.
Having made his decision, Luo Feng no longer hesitated and strode toward Xu Xin.
The female students clustered around Xu Xin, seeing the tall and imposing Luo Feng approaching with an aura as fierce as a tiger—looking almost as if he were about to devour someone—nervously retreated a few steps, inadvertently creating a private space for the two of them.
"Xu Xin." Luo Feng stopped three steps in front of her. He lowered his gaze slightly, looking at the lovely girl right before him, a hint of nervousness flickering in his eyes.
"Luo Feng..." Xu Xin looked up slightly, her pure, fair face wearing a polite expression. At that moment, she felt a sense of helplessness and couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
She had basically guessed what Luo Feng was about to say. Yet, it was precisely because of this that she felt helpless. The two of them were simply people from different worlds.
"Xu Xin, I like you. I've liked you for three whole years." Luo Feng had many things he wanted to say, but when the moment came, these were the only words he could manage.
*Sigh.* As expected. Xu Xin sighed helplessly in her heart. She was just about to politely reject him when his next words made her freeze.
"You don't have to rush to reject me. I know you might not like me yet... but please give me some time, and give me a chance to pursue you." Luo Feng spoke with earnest sincerity.
Clearly, he understood that a confession of love was something that should naturally occur after two people's feelings had warmed sufficiently. In his eyes, this confession was merely him stating his stance—his intention to pursue her.
If... if she wouldn't even give him the chance to pursue her... then he would have to abandon this desire entirely and devote himself heart and soul to the path of martial arts.
"..." Xu Xin fell silent for a moment. Her gaze met his deep, resolute eyes. The girl's heart fluttered, and her face flushed slightly.
"...Then I'll give you a chance." With her heart in a flutter, the girl uttered these words before turning and hurrying away in a panic.
Luo Feng caught a faint, lingering scent of her fragrance in the air, his mood brightening unexpectedly.
At some point, Wei Wen had arrived beside him and jabbed an elbow into his ribs, snapping the grinning Luo Feng back to reality.
"Ah Feng, looking at that silly grin, did the confession go well?" Wei Wen asked in surprise. Xu Xin was known for being cold and aloof; was she really that easy to win over?
"I'm truly impressive," Wei Wen thought smugly. If not for his help, how could Luo Feng have succeeded? With that in mind, he smiled. "Ah Feng, remember to treat me. As a future martial artist, you surely won't be short on cash. You'll have to arrange something nice for me, won't you?"
"Get lost, you jerk!" Luo Feng laughed and scolded him, then added, "The confession didn't technically 'succeed.' Xu Xin just agreed to give me a chance."
"It's all the same. With your brilliance, Ah Feng, which girl could resist your pursuit?" Wei Wen said dismissively.
An eighteen-year-old martial artist was considered a genius in Yangzhou City. Plus, Luo Feng was tall, handsome, and had a good character. Wei Wen believed that unless Xu Xin was blind, she wouldn't let go of such a definite blue-chip prospect.
Wei Wen did not know that Xu Xin came from the Xu family of the HR Alliance and had a multitude of suitors, including young genius martial artists who had already reached the rank of Warlord in their early twenties. If Wei Wen had known this, he probably wouldn't have been so confident about Luo Feng's chances.
The HR Alliance was a global super-organization, divided into nine core families and dozens of secondary families and conglomerates. The Xu family was one of the twelve major families within China. Although their foundation was not as strong as the nine core families, they were still a top-tier power in China, controlling vast wealth and connections. They even employed several powerful martial artist teams, and even God-of-War level powerhouses would give them a face and avoid conflicts with them.
Luo Feng smiled upon hearing Wei Wen's words, clearly quite confident in himself as well.
The two chatted and joked as they left the school after receiving their graduation certificates, eventually parting ways to head home. As for the university application forms? Luo Feng, not caring in the slightest, tore them up and tossed them into the trash.
The big-mouthed Wei Wen also revealed to the stunned classmates that Luo Feng was about to pass the prospective martial artist examination.
Ignoring the shock and skepticism of his classmates, Luo Feng left the campus feeling quite good. Not only had he made initial progress with the girl he had crushed on for years, but he had also obtained ten Body Tempering Pills. Along the way, he would occasionally let out a silly laugh.
This scene was silently recorded by Bai Chen, who was inside Luo Feng's body.
[Stealth Reconnaissance Bug]
Description: Tiny in size, capable of stealth, and able to clearly record detailed scenes within a one-kilometer radius.
*Click, click, click...*
Luo Feng had no idea that the stealth reconnaissance bug flying above him was filming his every move.
"Tsk tsk, quite useful," Bai Chen, residing within Luo Feng, chuckled to himself. With this stealth bug, his vision was no longer limited to what Luo Feng could see.
...Time passed, and a few days flew by.
On July 1st, early in the morning, Luo Feng took the subway to the center of Yangzhou City, to the headquarters of the Yangzhou City Limitless Martial Arts Gym—the Limitless Hall.
This was the venue for the prospective martial artist examination.
...Three hours later, Luo Feng walked out with a calm expression. However, judging by his clenched fists and the flicker of excitement in his eyes, he was not as composed as he appeared.
Standing outside the hall, Luo Feng took out his phone and made a call. It connected after a moment.
"Dad, Mom, I passed the exam."
"...From now on, you won't have to work as hard as you used to."
Luo Feng didn't say much more, simply sharing his joy with his family before hanging up, telling them he would be home soon.
...That night.
As Luo Feng was enjoying a sumptuous dinner with his family, his heart stirred.
"What is it, 'Bai'?" Luo Feng asked, feeling a bit strange. Generally, apart from chatting when he was completing missions, 'Bai' rarely initiated contact.
"A gift for you, to celebrate passing your prospective martial artist exam," Bai Chen said before falling silent again, ignoring Luo Feng.
Since 'Bai' didn't respond, Luo Feng opened his panel to see what the gift was. He had to admit, he was genuinely looking forward to it.
"Maybe it's more Body Tempering Pills," Luo Feng guessed. He didn't dare guess anything more precious, as he knew 'Bai's' personality well; it was impossible for him to get anything good for free.
But a moment later, Luo Feng froze in surprise.
