Chapter 117: The Wager (Bonus Chapter for Recommendation Votes)
Recalling the conversation between Nan Weiye and Ding Shuman four years ago, a wave of cold, murky obscurity and immense hatred surged through Nan Zhi’s chest.
Her face, along with her eyes, turned icy in an instant. Taking the invitation letter Nan Yao handed her, she tore it into shreds and flung them fiercely into Nan Yao’s face.
"Do not provoke me, or I cannot guarantee what I might do." Nan Zhi’s almond-shaped eyes were filled with a piercing chill. "If you have the capability, compete with me openly and honestly. Do not play these petty tricks in front of me."
Nan Zhi stepped forward in her high heels, looking down at Nan Yao from a position of superiority. The aura she exuded from the very marrow of her bones was both cold, gorgeous, and arrogant.
She was born beautiful, with ruby lips and pearly teeth, and when paired with those clear, frigid eyes, she instantly caused Nan Yao’s momentum to dwindle.
Nan Zhi leaned in, whispering into Nan Yao’s ear with a cold, elegant laugh, "Nan Yao, you are the daughter of a mistress, an illegitimate child whose status has yet to be publicly acknowledged by Father. Where do you get the courage to provoke me time and again? If you tire me out, I will return to my father’s side and seduce Fu Shaoxiu once more. After four years, who do you think has a better chance of winning between us?"
Nan Yao’s expression shifted.
Fu Shaoxiu had always harbored lingering feelings for Nan Zhi. If Nan Zhi were truly determined to seduce him…
Nan Yao suppressed the trembling of her inner rage. She raised her eyes to meet Nan Zhi’s gaze, her face looking unsightly as she said, "Nan Zhi, how about we make a bet?"
As Nan Yao said this, she deliberately raised her voice, a flicker of calculation flashing in her eyes.
Nan Zhi sat back down, picked up her glass, and took a sip of water. She spoke at a leisurely pace, "Go on!"
That nonchalant tone made it seem as if she did not take Nan Yao seriously at all.
Nan Yao was furious, but she forced a gentle smile onto her face. "Let’s compare the ratings of our respective internship programs. If my show has higher ratings, you resign and leave the television station. If your show is higher, I will leave. How about that?"
Nan Yao’s words shocked many people in the restaurant.
Zhuang Jingjing, Yu Xiaoting, and Bai Weiwei felt that there was simply no comparison to be made.
The ratings for the previous season of *Dream Come True* were established; it was the station’s rising ace program. Meanwhile, *Gourmet Wins the World* was a total flop, and whether it could even find a sponsor for the new season was a massive question mark!
Xia Xi slammed her chopsticks down with a loud crack, her brows furrowed as she shouted at Nan Yao, "You are being absolutely overbearing."
Nan Yao sneered. "Xia Xi, I remember you are Director Zhang’s assistant, right? What, the new season hasn’t even aired yet, and you already have so little confidence in your own program?"
Zhuang Jingjing chimed in, "Yao Yao, their show flopped like a dog last season! Naturally, they don’t have the courage to challenge an ace program!"
Yu Xiaoting echoed, "Exactly. Challenging them would be nothing more than digging their own graves, wouldn't it?"
Bai Weiwei stood to the side with a mocking smile on her lips. Even though she was the host of *Gourmet Wins the World*, she looked down upon the program. Compared to *Dream Come True*, it was nothing but trash.
Xia Xi glared at them, then looked at Nan Zhi, who had remained silent. She shook her head at her, "Sister Zhi, there is no comparability to this kind of bet. Don’t agree to it…"
"No." Nan Zhi’s red lips curled slightly upward, looking cold, elegant, and charming. "I accept."
Nan Yao wanted to use this opportunity to kick her out of the television station, but conversely, wasn't Nan Zhi looking for the same?
Upon hearing this, the others were struck with disbelief.
It was as if a pebble had been dropped into a calm lake, instantly stirring up a massive wave.
