Chapter 119: A Surprise
Nan Zhi slowly opened her eyes, but all she saw was utter darkness. Something was covering her eyes.
She seemed to be sitting on a soft sofa, and her heart suddenly raced. She raised her hand, intending to remove the blindfold.
Before her fingers could touch the cloth, a hand grabbed her arm.
She was abruptly pulled up from the sofa.
Nan Zhi’s face paled. She hadn’t expected someone to have the audacity to kidnap her right inside the TV station.
She had only just returned to the country—who had she offended?
Fu Shaoxiu?
Had he found out about that night?
“Who are you? What do you want?”
“Heh.” The man holding her hands stepped behind her, letting out a low, dark chuckle. Though she couldn’t see him, Nan Zhi could feel his towering presence, an overwhelming aura that brooked no defiance.
Strong and fierce.
Her heart fluttered.
The man bent down, his lips brushing close to her ear—close enough to touch but never quite making contact. The breath he exhaled drifted into her ear canal, warm and faintly scorching, dangerous and terrifying.
Goosebumps erupted all over Nan Zhi’s body. Her lips trembled, and she ground her teeth, “Mu Sihan!”
No sooner had she spoken than he bit down hard on her earlobe.
“Boring, you guessed it so fast.” The man peeled away the silk blindfold from her eyes, then placed a large palm before her face. His voice was wickedly charming. “Little one, are you ready?”
A youthful voice sounded softly in the silent air. “Almost. I’ll count to three, then you let go of Mei Zhi Zhi.”
Nan Zhi’s heart skipped a beat.
Why was Nan Xiaokai involved in her kidnapping?
That little troublemaker seemed to have changed ever since meeting Mu Sihan.
“One, two, three... done!”
Mu Sihan withdrew the hand blocking her sight. As light flooded in, Nan Zhi hadn’t yet taken in her surroundings when suddenly—bang!—a burst of colorful confetti showered down upon her.
Xiaokai held out a bouquet of lilies to her, his smile radiant. “Mei Zhi Zhi, happy birthday!”
Nan Zhi looked at the little boy, dressed impeccably in a white shirt, black suit jacket, and bow tie. His delicate, exquisite features made him look like a little prince from the Middle Ages.
So adorable! So cute!
Thank goodness he was hers!
A wave of warmth rose in Nan Zhi’s eyes. She accepted the bouquet, crouched down, and kissed Xiaokai on the forehead. “Thank you, sweetheart.”
Raising her head, Nan Zhi took in her surroundings and realized she was in an enormous, lavishly decorated private room.
The room could hold over a hundred people, with an exquisitely crafted stage at the front that rivaled those of grand galas. At that moment, a massive screen flickered to life, displaying candid photos Xiaokai had secretly taken of her.
There she was—happy, frowning, troubled—every emotion captured. And the angles the little one chose were mysteriously unflattering.
Nan Zhi felt both touched and helpless.
One photo showed her exhausted, head resting on the desk, mouth slightly open with a hint of drool. She raised a hand to cover her eyes.
A wicked voice whispered in her ear, “Though ugly, it’s quite real.”
Nan Zhi’s ears flushed red as she shot the man a glare. Only then did she notice he was also dressed impeccably, as if he had just come from a formal banquet—an exquisitely tailored black suit, white shirt beneath, vest, and tie. A neatly folded pocket square adorned the left breast pocket, exuding nobility and elegance.
Beneath his short black hair, his sharply defined face was handsome and profound—every feature perfectly balanced.
