Chapter 7: An Unexpected Encounter at the Hotel

Little Kai couldn’t help smacking his lips. That uncle really was so cool and handsome, though still just a bit less so compared to himself. The man walked briskly, followed by a beautiful young lady. The cool uncle’s brows were slightly furrowed, showing not the slightest intention of stopping for the young lady. The girl, chasing after him without pause, looked truly pitiful.

“Brother Sihan, I know it was wrong of me to pretend to be your brother and book out the restaurant just to invite you, but I’m about to go abroad to study. Can’t you just have one meal with me?” The girl pouted, tears clinging to her lashes, shimmering and wet, making her look heartbreakingly lovely.

“I don’t make it a habit to dine with women.” No matter how sorrowfully she cried, the man showed not a trace of gentleness. He didn’t even turn his head, nor did he slow his steps.

“I like you!” The girl shouted after his tall, cold figure.

Quite a few people at the hotel entrance stopped to watch them. Nan Zhi, just off the phone, couldn’t help glancing over as well. All she saw was the tearful girl and the man whose black overcoat, tailored to perfection, made him look strikingly distinguished from behind.

Nan Zhi was about to look away when the man’s arrogant, utterly emotionless voice drifted to her ears. “I’m not interested in you.”

A clean, decisive rejection. Nan Zhi couldn’t help but look at his retreating figure a little longer. He seemed around one meter ninety, the exquisite black overcoat fitting his tall, upright frame without flaw. His presence was so commanding that even the girls around, ready to snap photos with their phones, were intimidated into stillness.

“Zhi Zhi, what are you looking at?” Xia Yanran, who had just driven over, asked.

The man had already disappeared. Nan Zhi quickly withdrew her gaze, a little surprised at herself for staring at a man’s back for so long. She smiled and shook her head. “It’s nothing.”

Before getting into the car, Little Kai suddenly turned to Nan Zhi, his childish voice ringing out, “Pretty Zhi Zhi, did you see a cool uncle who’s even more handsome than Brother Kai? Other than Brother Kai, you’re not allowed to like any other wild men, okay?”

At Little Kai’s words, Nan Zhi stumbled and nearly fell. Four years ago, when she discovered she was pregnant and wanted an abortion, the doctor told her that her rare blood type meant that after the procedure, future pregnancies would be difficult and might lead to habitual miscarriages. She struggled with the decision for a while before finally choosing to have the baby.

Yanran’s older brother Jun Yuan was an expert in this field. This time, Nan Zhi had brought Little Kai back home specifically to seek Jun Yuan’s treatment.

“Little Kai’s condition is relatively stable for now. I’ve already started searching for a suitable bone marrow match in the marrow and cord blood stem cell registries. But before that, Zhi Zhi, you could let Little Kai’s father come in for a compatibility test, just in case.”

Nan Zhi’s heart skipped a beat. Even she didn’t know who Little Kai’s father was—how could she possibly bring him in for testing?

To ensure Little Kai received the best care, Jun Yuan suggested he stay at the hospital, where there were professional caregivers and nurses. The cost of treatment and the eventual surgery would be no small sum.
