Chapter 70: Turning to Leave
After Fu Sijing was taken away by the police, Fu Shaoxiu immediately drove after them. The Fu family was a renowned and influential clan in Ning City, with a well-established network within the police force. In the past, as long as he paid the bail, he could always get Fu Sijing released.
But this time, even offering double bail didn't work.
He tried to contact the chief, who at first refused to answer his calls. After several attempts, the chief finally picked up, only to stammer that orders had come from above—Fu Sijing could not be released for the time being.
There were few in Ning City who dared disregard the Fu family to this extent.
Fu Shaoxiu racked his brain but couldn't think of anyone who would dare challenge the Fus, until Nanyao called him. She told him Nan Zhi had been kept by a wealthy, powerful old man who drove a Lykan Hypersport, with license plates from outside Ning City.
Originally, Fu Shaoxiu had planned to look for Nan Zhi later. Coincidentally, a client had invited him to this private restaurant for a meal and a business discussion. He had only just arrived when, stepping out of the private room to take a call, he happened to run into Nan Zhi.
"Si Jing has no feud with you. Even if she did something wrong, she's just young and naïve. Why are you making things so hard for her? Now, call that sugar daddy of yours and tell him to release Si Jing."
Nan Zhi immediately understood the implication in Fu Shaoxiu's words. The fact that he had failed to bail out Fu Sijing—
The only person she could imagine with such power and disregard for the Fu family was Mu Sihan, though she still didn't know who exactly he was.
Nan Zhi gave a faint, ironic smile. "Fu Shaoxiu, do you believe everything Nanyao says? You're running the Fu Corporation now, but you still act like an idiot?"
Fu Shaoxiu's eyes darkened. "Nan Zhi, what's that supposed to mean?"
"Figure it out yourself." Nan Zhi had no patience for further conversation and turned to leave.
With a few swift strides, Fu Shaoxiu blocked her path, his gaze shadowed and complex as he looked at her. "Nan Zhi, you never loved me, did you? Because you've always had someone else in your heart?"
"Because the one you loved used to wear white shirts, his smile was full of sunshine. When he disappeared and you couldn't find him, you saw a bit of him in me—that's why, after I chased you for two years, you finally agreed to be with me, isn't it?"
"After we got together, you wouldn't let me touch you, not even a kiss. Is it because you didn't want to tarnish that perfect image of him in your heart?"
Nan Zhi's hands, hanging at her sides, suddenly clenched, fingernails digging into her palms as if to pierce the fragile skin.
She lowered her long, thick lashes, feeling exposed and stung, as if a secret she thought only she knew had been laid bare.
It was a secret hidden deep in her heart from the days of her youth.
"Nanyao gave me a diary a few days ago..." Fu Shaoxiu began, only to be coldly interrupted by Nan Zhi. "Nanyao stole my diary?"
She had only kept a diary during the years she was thirteen or fourteen. After that person disappeared, she hid the diary away.
Later, when she went abroad, she meant to take it with her, but no matter how hard she searched, she couldn't find it.
So Nanyao had stolen it.
"Nan Zhi, I know that diary means a lot to you. I can give it back, but I have two conditions."
Nan Zhi let out a cold laugh.
Truly, birds of a feather flock together—after stealing from her, they still had the audacity to make demands.
"First, you tell your sugar daddy to have Si Jing released. Second," Fu Shaoxiu's gaze was dark as he stared at Nan Zhi's beautiful face, his Adam's apple shifting, "tonight, meet me at the Hyatt Hotel, room 8088." Though she had been sullied by others, he had never had her. The thought still rankled.
Before leaving, Fu Shaoxiu leaned down and whispered in Nan Zhi's ear, his voice low so only the two of them could hear, "If you don't agree, I'll burn that diary."
