Mu Yinyin’s eyes flickered with hesitation, a hint of helplessness in her voice as she spoke, “If I say no, could you please just not say anything?”

“It seems like I can’t,” Lu Sinian replied with a soft smile. Watching the twitch at the corner of her mouth, he chuckled again and said, “Because I can’t control myself.”

Yinyin pressed her lips together, remaining silent, as if waiting for Lu Sinian to continue, or perhaps resigned to the situation.

After a pause, Lu Sinian looked at her gently and said, “Yinyin, after the divorce, it might affect your feelings somewhat. You don’t trust anyone, and I know that coming to you now, you won’t trust me either. But life is long, and no one can make it alone. If you don’t plan on falling in love again, then why not find someone who suits you in every way? I think we’re quite a match. What do you think?”

Yinyin was speechless.

He had laid out all the reasons, and she seemed to have nothing left to argue.

As she opened her mouth to say something, the man spoke again, “There’s no need to rush to reject me. What I said is something you can seriously consider. Yinyin, for you, I can be your support, your perfect partner in cooperation. But for me, you are love at first sight.”

Love at first sight.

Those last words were spoken earnestly, without any evasion, his eyes fixed on her as he spoke, causing her heart to tremble uncontrollably.

It wasn’t that his words stirred her so much as the way he was, leaving her utterly at a loss.

Yinyin tugged at the corner of her lips, a bit helpless, and said, “Sinian, this isn’t something I need to think about right now. Even if, in the future, marriage and children become an issue, it won’t be with you. We’re simply not meant for each other.”

She was entering her second marriage; Lu Sinian was outstanding, and she didn’t want to hold him back—that was her moral bottom line.

Lu Sinian furrowed his brow slightly. He wasn’t in a hurry to leave but continued to gaze at her. “Don’t let this limit you. Do you think I’m that rigid a person?”

“I know you’re not.”

“Then what’s there to worry about?” Lu Sinian’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Are you afraid I’ll do something bad to you?”

Yinyin’s lashes trembled slightly. He was already losing composure over just a few words.

---

“Yinyin, what I’m saying isn’t a joke. It comes from my heart. I hope you’ll seriously consider it and not reject me outright, okay?” Lu Sinian’s gaze was unusually sincere.

Yinyin’s eyes reflected a mix of emotions. She felt that if she refused him now, she didn’t know how many more words he might say. So she simply nodded, “Alright, I’ll think about it seriously. Let’s go back.”

Lu Sinian shook his head helplessly, sighing, “That sounds rather perfunctory.”

Yinyin was speechless.

She thought her acting was decent, but this man saw right through her, leaving her momentarily at a loss for words.

“Who told you I only like you? I’ll just have to wait for your response slowly. I’ll see you off,” Lu Sinian sighed again, then started the engine and drove.

Yinyin’s eyes flickered but she said nothing. She didn’t know what to say, and she preferred not to discuss such topics further.

The car fell silent once more, but Lu Sinian soon began chatting with her again, steering clear of the previous subject. This eased Yinyin’s mood considerably.

They arrived at the hotel where Yinyin was staying.

She looked at Lu Sinian gratefully. “Thank you for today.”

“Just remember to devote yourself to me,” Lu Sinian said with a light smile, speaking casually. Yet Yinyin was momentarily stunned. She knew this was no longer a joke.

Her lips twitched. “Alright, I’ll think about it. Be careful on your way back.”

“Okay, I know you care about me.”

Yinyin was speechless.

She chose silence, watching the gentle smile on his lips. Without another word, she nodded slightly and got out of the car.

Lu Sinian watched her enter the hotel. Seeing her disappear from sight, he finally left.

---

As Yinyin headed toward the elevator, her expression was complex. If things continued like this, it wouldn’t bode well. Lu Sinian was a smart man; sometimes she didn’t need to say much for him to understand. But she could see that he wasn’t willing to give up.

Whether from affection or because he found her useful, he wouldn’t relent. So, no matter how much she said, it would be futile. This placed her in a somewhat troublesome position, leaving her unsure how to handle it.

Her phone suddenly vibrated, pulling her back to reality. Seeing the caller ID, she didn’t hesitate to answer.

“Boss Jiang?”

“Yinyin, where are you?” Jiang Ling’s voice was tinged with worry.

Yinyin’s eyes flickered. “You’re back?”

“Yeah, but I’ve been knocking for a while and you didn’t respond. Yinyin, did you go out again?” Jiang Ling sounded genuinely concerned, fearing something might have happened to her. The recent trouble with Gao Zhusheng had left him unwilling to endure such stress again.

Yinyin quickly replied, “I’m at the elevator now, heading up. Wait for me.”

She hung up and stepped into the elevator, where there was no signal anyway.

Soon, the elevator doors opened, and she saw Jiang Ling waiting.

Her expression faltered slightly. Jiang Ling must have been at her door when he called, but had moved to the elevator by the time she arrived. An apologetic look crossed her eyes. “Sorry, I should have told you, but I was afraid it would only make you worry more. I really went out with no problems.”

Looking into Jiang Ling’s worried eyes, Yinyin hurried to reassure him, “I made sure there was absolutely no problem before I left.”

Jiang Ling studied her, seeing she was unharmed, and finally exhaled softly. Then he sighed again, unable to hide his frustration. “Yinyin, I’m not trying to restrict your freedom. On the contrary, I’m upset that I have to do this. I hate my own helplessness for not being able to protect you every moment.”

Yinyin immediately shook her head. “Don’t say that. You’re excellent. It’s just that this time we’re facing a particularly tricky situation. No one, no matter how strong, can have everything go smoothly all the time.”
