Chapter 137: A Strange Man
No sooner had she finished speaking than she heard Nan Shiqing shriek a single word, her voice cracking: "Where?!"
The decibel level was alarmingly high.
Mu Yinyin and Fu Siye had not yet fully departed. Through the receiver, Fu Siye heard it too—it was Nan Shiqing’s voice. He frowned slightly. Why would Nan Shiqing make such a sound? It was something he had never heard from her before. In that instant, he recalled Dyson telling him yesterday that Nan Shiqing was a "green tea" bitch, and his brows furrowed even deeper.
Meanwhile, Mu Yinyin spoke with a mocking smile, "I’m in Country M. Why are you so surprised?"
There was a cold glint in Mu Yinyin’s eyes; clearly, she knew exactly what Nan Shiqing was thinking. Naturally, it was because she had anticipated this reaction that she had said it on purpose.
What she hadn’t expected was that Nan Shiqing, currently sitting on her bedroom sofa, had a face twisted in fury. She knew Fu Siye had gone to Country M for the auction, but she never imagined that the bitch Mu Yinyin had gone too! If she had known, she would have begged Fu Siye to take her along, no matter what. She wouldn't have given Mu Yinyin a chance.
Mu Yinyin was doing this on purpose. She refused to give up any opportunity to get close to Fu Siye, playing a game of "hard to get" just to rekindle their past flame. Before, she had thought Fu Siye didn't like her, so she switched tactics to make him fall in love with her. How could this woman be so calculating? It was too much!
Nan Shiqing’s face turned ghastly with rage. She wanted to lash out, but she was terrified that Fu Siye might be standing right next to Mu Yinyin, or that Mu Yinyin might be recording the call to play back for him. Taking a deep breath, she said slowly, "No, I was just curious. Why did you go there, sister? Are you there to attend the auction?"
"Is there anything else?" Mu Yinyin’s eyes flashed with cold mockery. She had told Nan Shiqing specifically to make her suffer; she had no interest in continuing the conversation.
"No... it’s just that I haven't seen you for a while and I missed you, sister."
Mu Yinyin curled her lips. "Instead of missing me, you’d be better off thinking about him. That would make you feel better, body and soul. Goodbye."
With that, Mu Yinyin hung up the phone.
Fu Siye, standing right beside her, looked at her coldly. "She is devoted to you, and this is how you treat her?"
"Devoted?" Mu Yinyin found the irony staggering. She looked at Fu Siye with profound disdain. A moment later, she gave a cold scoff. "If you think she’s kind-hearted, then marry her and cherish her well. There are plenty of people to dote on her; she doesn't need an outsider like me."
Having said her piece, Mu Yinyin walked away without so much as a glance at him.
Fu Siye stood where he was, his sharp gaze seemingly trying to pierce through her back. Yet, Mu Yinyin didn't care in the slightest, nor was she affected by him. Just moments ago, when she told him to marry Nan Shiqing, she had been so calm and casual, showing no signs of being provoked. In the past, if he had even come close to Nan Shiqing, she would have been devastated. But now...
Heh. A woman’s heart is truly as deep as the ocean.
Fu Siye cleared his mind and walked toward his own private room.
Just as the two figures disappeared, two others emerged. The man in the lead had a tall, slender build, clearly the frame of someone who exercised regularly. He was devastatingly handsome, especially his pale blue eyes, which held a chilling detachment and danger. He was looking exactly in the direction Mu Yinyin had gone.
The man behind him was clearly his subordinate, also dressed in a black suit, but compared to his leader, he was on an entirely different level. After a moment of hesitation, the subordinate spoke respectfully, "Boss, do you need me to do anything?"
The man narrowed his eyes and said with a faint, enigmatic smile, "It’s too early for anything."
The subordinate looked puzzled but nodded obediently and acknowledged the order. Seeing the man walking toward the direction Mu Yinyin had left, he immediately followed, but after only two steps, the man stopped abruptly and turned to look at him.
"You don't need to follow me anymore."
The subordinate’s expression changed slightly. "Boss, it’s not safe here..."
Before he could finish, the man said in a low, dark voice, "Don't you understand?"
The subordinate’s face paled again. This time, he didn't dare say another word and retreated.
The man didn't look at him again and continued forward. Soon, he arrived at the door of a private room—the very room Mu Yinyin had just entered.
He knocked symbolically and pushed the door open. Upon looking up, he saw Mu Yinyin already seated at the table, looking in his direction. She was wearing a light blue casual outfit; she hadn't dressed formally for the business meeting, which, rather than making her seem unprofessional, gave her an air of effortless grace.
The man raised an eyebrow. "What a coincidence. We meet again."
Mu Yinyin’s eyes paused. As she sized him up, she asked with a hint of confusion, "Again? I believe this is my first time meeting you, Mr. Qi."
Qi Mo curled his lips slightly. "It may be your first time seeing me, but it is not my first time seeing you."
Mu Yinyin pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
Soon, Qi Mo closed the door and sat down opposite her. A faint smile played on his lips. "Apologies, I was held up on the way. I’ve arrived later than you."
Mu Yinyin nodded indifferently. "It’s fine. You haven't broken our agreement."
There were still ten minutes left until the appointed time. Even if he had arrived right on the dot, Mu Yinyin wouldn't have thought anything of it.
Qi Mo smiled. "Miss Mu is as reasonable as ever."
Mu Yinyin glanced at him but remained silent.
"Shall we look at what to eat? Since I’m the one who arrived later than a lady, I should at least be the one to treat you." As he spoke, he handed her the menu.
This restaurant did not use waiters; it had an intelligent ordering system, and one simply sent the orders through the interface.
Mu Yinyin said quite naturally, "Anything is fine. You order, Mr. Qi."
She had no interest in choosing the dishes, and Qi Mo clearly noticed. He raised an eyebrow. "Very well, I shall order then."
In no time, Qi Mo had selected a few items. Mu Yinyin realized that more than half of them were dishes she particularly enjoyed. She observed him without saying a word.
Qi Mo showed no signs of embarrassment at being caught. Instead, he smiled like a true gentleman and said in a soft voice, "A fair maiden is a good match for a gentleman; it seems only natural to inquire about your preferences, doesn't it?"
Mu Yinyin: "..."
She suddenly didn't know how to respond to that.
