Chapter 150: Top-Tier Price
Jiang Ling let out a sigh. "After all, it's just that I am useless."
He simply didn't have enough strength or capital to compete with them. Once the bidding reached this price, he could no longer hold on.
He even felt that he was unworthy of Yinyin, that he lacked the capability.
Mu Yinyin frowned slightly. "At a time like this, rationality is the most important thing. There's no need to do something like this."
Jiang Ling gave a bitter smile and said nothing more. There was nothing left to say.
No matter how much he said, it all boiled down to his uselessness.
Mu Yinyin wore a somewhat complicated expression. At that moment, she seemed to understand Jiang Ling's thoughts.
She remembered how, once upon a time, she thought a certain item was wonderful and even considered preparing one for Fu Siyie, but... she couldn't get her hands on it at all. At that time, she had felt completely useless.
Yet...
Now, on the contrary, she felt that not getting it was actually quite fine. If she had obtained it and presented it to him only for him to throw it away without hesitation, that would have been far more painful, wouldn't it?
She took a slight breath and slowly spoke. "Jiang Ling, I truly only look at you as an older brother."
"Yinyin, I know." Jiang Ling smiled bitterly again, saying in a low voice, "Yet sometimes, you are you, and I am my own person. I can't control my love for you, and I only want to place the best things in the palm of your hand. Only then do I feel at ease. I just want you to live a good life."
Mu Yinyin pressed her lips together, suddenly at a loss for words in that moment.
Because no matter what she said, it seemed completely useless.
Her divorce had made Jiang Ling utterly unwilling to let go.
She withdrew her gaze, refusing to dwell on it any longer.
While they had been talking, the bid had already reached one thousand.
One thousand.
Not ten million.
One hundred billion.
Just a single object.
Bid up to such a staggering price.
If Farrar knew about this, he would probably be shocked beyond belief.
Everyone in the hall was somewhat dumbfounded at this point, all thinking the exact same thing: Was it really necessary?
Was it worth it?
Now, this bid of one thousand had been placed by Fu Siyie, while Lu Sinian and Qimo seemed to be considering whether to continue bidding.
The very next moment, however, Lu Sinian raised his paddle. "Twelve hundred."
He glanced at the other two men and spoke with a helpless smile, "You two, why don't you let me have this one? I'll consider myself in your debt."
As good partners in business collaborations, none of the three had expected to suddenly find themselves competing like this over an item that wasn't even a business opportunity.
Yet a second later, Qimo let out a helpless sigh. "I'd love to yield to you, but I really want to give this gift to my fiancée—consider it the long-awaited gift I'm finally giving her."
As he spoke, Qimo cast a deliberate glance at Mu Yinyin.
Mu Yinyin was still preoccupied with thoughts of Jiang Ling at the moment and didn't notice, though both Lu Sinian and Fu Siyie sensed something was amiss.
Lu Sinian narrowed his eyes, a half-smile playing on his lips as he asked, "Finding a fiancée is certainly a wonderful thing, but which young lady is she? Why not bring her over tonight for us to meet?"
Qimo chuckled softly. "Not yet. I haven't reconciled with her yet, and I'm afraid of startling her."
This time, he looked directly at Lu Sinian as he spoke, immediately raising his paddle afterward. "Fifteen hundred."
Lu Sinian raised an eyebrow. "Then Young Master Qi's movements might be a bit too slow. Two thousand."
Qimo sighed. "Well, she's my fiancée, after all. Shouldn't I pamper her a little?"
Their voices were not loud, but those sitting nearby could clearly hear them.
Given Qimo's status, everyone couldn't help but feel curious about his fiancée—the fiancée who had vanished for so many years—wondering who on earth she was.
Fu Siyie showed no interest in joining their topic of conversation and directly raised his paddle. "Three thousand."
"Three hundred billion! The precious piece designed by Mr. Farrar has reached three hundred billion! Three thousand going once! Does anyone else wish to raise the bid?"
Three thousand.
Three hundred billion.
This price was truly a bit exaggerated.
Both Qimo and Lu Sinian turned their gazes toward Fu Siyie.
Qimo smiled helplessly. "It seems President Fu wants this treasure even more than I do."
Lu Sinian raised an eyebrow without speaking, though his eyes clearly held a hint of suspicion. "I'd love to know who on earth is so fortunate as to make President Fu go to such great lengths and effort to win this auction."
Fu Siyie spoke with complete composure. "You'll find out in the future."
"In the future." Lu Sinian offered a noncommittal, half-smiling look and said nothing more.
Yet the gaze he cast toward Mu Yinyin seemed to deepen by a fraction.
Mu Yinyin's eyes were filled with utter sarcasm; she had no intention whatsoever of joining this conversation.
Once the bidding hit three thousand, neither of the other two men intended to continue.
This price had pretty much reached its limit.
Mu Yinyin was somewhat surprised to find that both Lu Sinian and Qimo had actually stopped.
Still, this price...
Was just about right.
Going any higher truly wouldn't be cost-effective.
"Three thousand going once! Does anyone else wish to raise the bid?"
Lu Sinian and Qimo had both stopped, and Jiang Ling had dropped out long before.
Everyone else in the venue had long since been frightened away by the price, and naturally, no one else would dare to compete.
The entire hall suddenly grew quiet.
"Three thousand going twice!"
"Three thousand going three times, sold!"
The sarcasm in Mu Yinyin's eyes grew even thicker. Right then, she almost wanted to send a message to Nan Shiqing to offer her congratulations.
Next up was the bidding for the next new item.
None of these men had any interest in the new items, so they each returned to their own business.
Mu Yinyin resumed chatting with Gu Xiaoqi on her phone.
After winning the item, Fu Siyie's expression remained consistently gloomy, as if he didn't care for the victory at all.
Gu Xiaoqi, on the other hand, was furious.
——Gu Xiaoqi: [Damn it! What gives Nan Shiqing the right? Is she even worthy of a treasure designed by Mr. Farrar? Thirty billion! Fu Siyie must be out of his mind! Without even bothering to check what kind of person Nan Shiqing really is, he dares to spend this much money on her. Has he run out of places to spend his wealth? Why waste it like this? He really has no brains at all!!]
Mu Yinyin couldn't help but smile. As she typed her reply, she saw the dialogue box indicate that the other party was currently typing. Without needing to guess, she knew Gu Xiaoqi must still be ranting about Fu Siyie and mobilizing a massive vocabulary.
She didn't rush to reply, letting Gu Xiaoqi vent for a moment longer. Sure enough, a new message from Gu Xiaoqi arrived shortly.
——Gu Xiaoqi: [Damn it! Right now I feel like grabbing a hammer and smashing this scumbag's head open to see if his brains are made of solid gold! Why doesn't he have a normal person's thought process? You're so wonderful! You're so outstanding! Yet he actually chooses that green tea bitch! I am utterly speechless! If I ever get the chance, I'll definitely walk right up to his face and tell him the day will come when he regrets this! But then again, do you think that now that he knows your true identity, he's going to regret it?]
