Chapter 151: How Could Anyone Possibly Survive?

Mu Yinyin tugged at the corner of her lips.
—Mu Yinyin: “Regret?”
—Mu Yinyin: “If he regretted it, why would he spend three hundred billion on a pendant for Nan Shiqing?”
—Gu Xiaoqi: “…”
—Gu Xiaoqi: “Men are all bastards! Men are no good!”
Mu Yinyin was so amused by her words that she let out a sudden laugh, drawing the attention of several people nearby.
Her fingers continued tapping back and forth across her phone.
—Mu Yinyin: “Shouldn’t you be more specific? Does that mean A-Chuan is no good either?”
—Gu Xiaoqi: “Awooo! Everyone except him!”
The smile in Mu Yinyin’s eyes grew brighter and brighter.
Jiang Ling turned to look at her. Seeing the breathtaking smile curving across her lips, he could not help asking, “Who are you chatting with? You look so happy.”
Mu Yinyin turned toward him and answered with a light laugh, “Who else could it be besides Xiaoqi?”
Jiang Ling raised his brows. What had she said this time?
Mu Yinyin held her phone out to him, barely able to contain her laughter. “Look.”
Jiang Ling quickly read through their conversation, and the corners of his lips lifted as well. For a moment, he did not know what to say.
Seeing the words indicating that the other person was still typing appear in the chat window, Jiang Ling chuckled. “Looks like these past few days have driven her crazy with boredom.”
“With her temperament, she can never sit still. At least she’s been somewhat obedient this time. It’s also thanks to A-Chuan for being able to keep her under control.”
Jiang Ling smiled but said nothing.
Yet his heart was threaded with complicated emotions.
He had just seen the two of them discussing who Fu Siye had bought the item for. There was not the slightest sign in Mu Yinyin’s words that she was upset. She was sitting right beside him now, a smile still lingering at the corners of her lips, looking perfectly normal.
Could she…
Really have let Fu Siye go?
He gazed at the woman before him, but before he could continue thinking, Mu Yinyin spoke softly. “At this rate, she’ll probably go insane if she has to endure another ten days.”
As she spoke, she shook her head helplessly with a smile. Just then, her phone vibrated again, signaling the arrival of a new message.

Fu Siye was sitting right beside Mu Yinyin. Watching her interact with Jiang Ling so naturally, chatting and laughing with him, his expression seemed to darken even further.
Mu Yinyin did not look at him at all and had no idea that his mood had changed. Instead, she continued chatting with Gu Xiaoqi, occasionally sharing things with Jiang Ling. The two of them looked like lovers who had been together for a long time, so familiar with one another that they had already become family.
But in truth, to Mu Yinyin, they were family—not lovers.
The same was true of Li Chuan and Gu Xiaoqi.
The four of them were not related by blood, yet they were as close as biological siblings.
Biological siblings.
Mu Yinyin was still replying to messages when she glanced toward the stage. Although she had come straight here today for Qingzhu, this was, after all, a massive auction. She still needed to pay attention to every item.
Sure enough, one item had just been sold, and the next lot was already being brought forward.
The host had returned to the center of the venue, microphone in hand, preparing to introduce the next item.
A mysterious smile played about his lips as he deliberately heightened the atmosphere. “The next item up for auction may have a rather ancient story behind it.”
Everyone turned their attention toward him, waiting for him to continue.
The host paced back and forth across the stage. Then he raised his empty right hand and crooked a finger at the auction attendant standing not far away.
The attendant soon arrived carrying a tray.
As before, the tray was covered with a piece of red cloth.
This time, however, there was a slight bump beneath it.
Everyone looked puzzled, but it was clear that the item being auctioned was not particularly large.
It was simply much more substantial than the pendant.
The host beamed at the crowd. “This item may have a history of more than a thousand years. It is said that when King Gou was alive, this treasure helped him conquer the world. There is even a legend surrounding it. They say that whoever possesses this jade will obtain everything they desire. It can help you fulfill any wish.”
The crowd fell silent.
Were they really using this sort of sales pitch these days?
This could not possibly be a joke, could it?
And yet…
There were still plenty of wealthy people who believed in such things.
Sure enough, every one of them was staring intently toward the host, waiting for him to continue his promotion.

Mu Yinyin had nearly finished chatting with Gu Xiaoqi, and Xiaoqi had stopped replying. With nothing else to do, Mu Yinyin began listening attentively as well.
The host immediately continued with another genial smile. “Some of you may think this is nothing but a fabrication. To be honest, I’m half convinced myself. But after King Gou conquered the world, he was assassinated three times. According to the people of that era, he should have been unquestionably doomed each time. And yet… he miraculously survived every single attempt.”
“The first time, an arrow struck him in the chest. While everyone was trying to save him, they thought there was no hope. After all, he had been shot through the heart. But guess what happened?”
The crowd looked skeptical. Could it be that the arrow had not gone in very deeply?
The host smiled knowingly. “I can already guess what you’re thinking, but that wasn’t the case. The arrow had passed completely through his body, lodged across the area of his heart. Surely that should have been fatal?”
“Then why didn’t he die?” someone finally asked, unable to contain their confusion.
The host continued cheerfully, “At the time, the physicians were completely helpless. No one dared do anything, and everyone believed he was certain to die. Yet he still had a pulse. He was still breathing. Tell me, how could someone survive after an arrow had pierced straight through the heart?”
Exactly!
Then say how!
Someone was already cursing inwardly.
The host, however, remained utterly unhurried. He seemed determined to build the tension in the room before he would be satisfied.
Mu Yinyin narrowed her eyes. There was only one possibility.
The host smiled broadly. “Later, the imperial physicians also thought it was a miracle, so they investigated the matter. In the end, they discovered that the arrow had not pierced his heart at all.”
The crowd was baffled.
What nonsense was he talking about?
The host knew that if he did not explain himself soon, the audience might start throwing things at him. He hurriedly added, “Because his heart was located on the right side of his chest. He was not built like an ordinary person.”
“If it was on the right, then of course he wouldn’t die. What’s so extraordinary about that?”
The moment one person said this, everyone else immediately agreed.
The host seemed to be growing more and more absurd by the minute.
After all that buildup, it sounded as though he had said nothing of value at all.
The host, however, was not in the least bit anxious. With a knowing smile, he said, “Don’t be so hasty. This is precisely the key point I’m about to explain.”
