Mother Qi let out a cold laugh. "What does that have to do with me? Hasn't it always been you educating him? Didn't you tell me not to meddle with our son? Now you're blaming me again—you're hilarious."

Whenever their son acted up in the past and she wanted to discipline him, this old codger would always step in to stop her, claiming she didn't know how to raise a child and that a spoiling mother ruins her son. Now that their son had pissed him off, he suddenly decided it was her fault for not disciplining him properly. What a joke!

As she spoke, the woman stood up, peeled the facial mask off her face, and walked toward the bathroom.

Father Qi was too speechless with anger to speak, but still gritted his teeth and said, "Do you have any idea what he just said?!"

"All I can hear is you roaring," the woman replied casually. To be honest, she had been playing on her phone the whole time anyway, and since the father and son were always bickering like this, she hadn't really been listening.

"He said he won't marry Emily, and told me to stay out of it."

Standing in front of the mirror and admiring her fresh, supple skin where the mask had just been, the woman said dismissively, "Our son has said that more than once. You're the one nagging him and forcing him to get married every single day. It's no wonder he snaps at you—serves you right, I say. The boy has a mind of his own; why do you always have to pressure him like that? It's not like the daughter-in-law you've set your sights on is necessarily such a great catch anyway."

"You, you, you, you, you... it's because you indulge him so much that he dares to talk back to me like this!" Father Qi's expression grew even uglier.

"What does that have to do with me? I never interfere or say anything, yet when you forbid me from speaking, you still try to pin the blame on me. Old man, are you asking for a beating?"

Too lazy to argue with his wife over this, Father Qi irritably ran a hand through his hair and said in a deep voice, "He said he found his former fiancée."

Inside the bathroom, the sound of the running faucet stopped abruptly.

The next moment, the woman rushed out, water droplets still clinging to her face, and stared in disbelief at the man sitting irritably on the bed. "What did you say? Say it again!"

Father Qi frowned and said nothing, knowing that she had heard him clearly the first time and was merely repeating his words out of shock.

"How is that possible?" The astonishment in Mother Qi's eyes had yet to fade as she looked again at the man before her, asking in bewilderment, "He found her? Who is that girl?"

A clear look of expectation flickered in Mother Qi's eyes as she strode over to Father Qi's side.

Father Qi muttered gloomily, "How would I know!"

"You talked for all that time and you don't know?" Mother Qi looked at him with utter disdain. "You two were obviously on the phone for ages."

"For ages? He refused to let me ask anything, refused to let me meddle, and just told me I'd find out later. How am I supposed to know anything!" The more Father Qi talked, the more depressed he became, his face turning pitch black. The next instant, he abruptly stood up. "Forget it, I'm going to go find him right now and get to the bottom of this!"

"I'm coming with you!" Mother Qi couldn't care less about anything else now. She hurriedly wiped her face. "Wait for me, let me put on some skincare, change my clothes, and I'll head out with you right away."

This was no trivial matter. Now that the former fiancée had turned up, they had to face the situation. As a mother, even if she wanted her son to be independent, she still needed to know the whole story.

Father Qi hadn't been very patient to wait, but the thought of Qi Mo's constant impatience with him—and the fact that only his mother could keep him in check—made him hesitate before saying impatiently, "Step on it."

With that, he headed downstairs.

"Coming, coming right away!" Mother Qi quickly wiped her face, made sure her skin wasn't too dry, ran downstairs to change her clothes, and hurried out after Father Qi.

Half an hour later, the two of them arrived at Qi Mo's place.

When Qi Mo had first proposed moving out on his own, although the old couple had been reluctant to let him go, they figured he was old enough to live independently and hadn't stopped him. However, they stipulated that his new home couldn't be too far from theirs—the driving time had to be under half an hour.

Qi Mo had chosen a place right at that thirty-minute mark.

Moving quickly, the old couple used their pre-registered fingerprints to let themselves in directly. Reaching the living room, Father Qi didn't bother beating around the bush and immediately called Qi Mo.

However, after ringing only twice, the call was abruptly disconnected.

Father Qi's face grew even darker as he roared, "Little brat! Your old man is downstairs at your place, get your ass down here right now!"

"Have you lost your mind? Can't you keep it down?!" Mother Qi raised both hands to cover her ears, looking at her husband with utter contempt.

He naturally had a booming voice, and shouting like that was practically enough to shatter an eardrum.

With a dark expression and grinding his back molars, Father Qi said, "If he didn't hang up on my calls, would I have to resort to this?! How did I end up giving birth to such a heartless unfilial son!"

"Talk nonsense! From the time he was a kid, our son has never given me any reason to worry. He's independent, brilliant, handsome, and top-notch in every single way. How on earth does he become a heartless burden in your mouth?! How can you just sit there and lie through your teeth like that?!"

Driven half-crazy with fury, Father Qi pulled a long face, raised a trembling finger, and jabbed it back and forth at Mother Qi's face. "You, you, you...!! It's you who spoiled him rotten!!!"

Mother Qi let out a cold laugh, walked over to the sofa, sat down, and simply ignored him.

The old codger's voice had been plenty loud just now; the boy definitely heard it, so she didn't bother calling Qi Mo herself.

Five minutes later, footsteps echoed down the stairs.

The couple immediately looked up to see the handsome young man descending with a gloomy expression on his face.

The moment Father Qi saw him, his expression turned even uglier.

He opened his mouth to lay into him, but Mother Qi instantly grabbed his arm. "Shut your mouth!"

"You...!" Father Qi's face was exceptionally grim, but before he could spit out the rest of his words, Mother Qi coldly interjected, "If you want to know the truth of the matter, keep your temper in check."

Father Qi: "..."

In a single instant, Father Qi was rendered completely speechless.

He—he was going to be driven to an early grave by this mother-and-son duo sooner or later!

Mother Qi glared at him. "Don't look at me like that. I know what you're thinking, you old coot. We've been married for the better part of our lives, and I can see you're in the pink of health with no intention of dropping dead anytime soon. Why don't you hurry up and kick the bucket so I can remarry? Don't ruin my youth!"

Father Qi was so angry he laughed. "You? You?! You still have youth left?!"

Stout and imposing by nature, he glared fiercely at the woman once more. Anyone else would likely have been scared speechless by now.

However, Mother Qi wasn't afraid at all. Not only was she unafraid, but she looked fiercely back at him. "One more shout and I won't help you extract a single word from him!"

Glaring at her with furious, unsightly eyes, Father Qi fumed, yet he couldn't force a single syllable past his lips.

Right now, anything he said would be wrong.

Above all else, he desperately wanted to pry some information out of Qi Mo.

Before long, Qi Mo walked over and took a seat on the opposite sofa.

Frowning slightly, he asked, "What are you both doing coming over this late?"
