Chapter 161 Is There Anything You Would Dare Not Do?
"How could I dare?"
With just these few words, Qi Mo had no intention of elaborating, yet his tone dripped with unmistakable sarcasm.
Elder Qi was genuinely angered, grinding his back teeth as he retorted, "Is there anything you *don't* dare to do?"
Qi Mo raised an eyebrow in silence.
Qi Mu had already finished reading through all the documents, unable to help herself from praising, "As expected of my daughter-in-law! She is truly outstanding!"
Elder Qi was still boiling with rage, but upon hearing this, his attention instantly shifted. He looked at his wife in utter bafflement.
Noticing that she was still holding her phone and intently gazing at something on the screen, a realization dawned on him—the information about that girl must be right there on the phone!
Unable to care about much else, he lunged forward, snatched the phone from Qi Mu's hand, and sure enough, found the documents along with a photograph of the young woman.
"This? This girl..." Elder Qi looked at Qi Mo with a hint of surprise, leaving his unfinished sentence hanging, though his gaze said it all.
Had they met this girl before?
Qi Mo raised an eyebrow once more, offering no response.
Elder Qi felt a surge of annoyance, but figuring he could glean the details from the files, he pushed aside his impatience and immediately flipped to the very top to begin reading.
"So, what are you planning to do next?" Qi Mu had no inclination to wait for Elder Qi to finish reading; instead, she looked at her son with eager anticipation.
This time, Qi Mo did not draw out the suspense. He replied with utmost calm, "I've just recently entered into a partnership with her, so we will be interacting gradually. There's no need to rush, and besides, she likely knows nothing at all about her own origins."
Qi Mu looked at her son with a gossipy gleam in her eye, asking with keen interest, "Tell me, do you feel a heavier sense of duty now, or do you genuinely think the girl herself is quite remarkable? From what I can see, she's talented, beautiful, and has a great figure—she's practically the goddess everyone talks about."
Qi Mo: "..."
He twitched the corner of his mouth, choosing to remain silent.
Meanwhile, Elder Qi had nearly finished reading through the dossier.
Even as he read, he kept his ears perked, refusing to miss a single word they said. Not until he had absorbed every last detail did he raise his head to look at Qi Mo.
"Do you even need to ask what to do next? Hurry up and notify her parents about this. If old Shu finds out, he'll probably go mad with joy. I'm calling them right this second."
Seeing that Elder Qi was genuinely about to take out his phone, Qi Mo quickly intervened, "Not yet."
"Why?"
***
Back in the country.
At that moment, Mu Yinyin and Wan Yu were sitting opposite each other inside a cafe.
They were seated in a private booth, which made conversation quite convenient.
Wan Yu sized up the person before her. Noticing a lingering trace of sorrow in her eyes, she frowned slightly and said, "Although things haven't reached your ideal pace yet, they are at least proceeding smoothly overall. We can't rush Nan Shiqing."
Mu Yinyin snapped out of her daze, shook her head with a smile, and replied, "Of course I know that, and I'm not brooding over this. If they were to be struck down too quickly, it wouldn't bring the true pleasure of revenge. It's much better to let them spend their days in constant panic."
Wan Yu arched an eyebrow, perplexed. "If none of this is the reason, why do you still look so crestfallen?"
"Do I?" Mu Yinyin couldn't help but chuckle. "I was just pondering some things a moment ago, nothing is going wrong. Sister Wan, you really don't need to worry about me."
"I do worry. How can I not worry about you?" Wan Yu sighed softly, took a sip of her coffee, and looked at the woman across from her with helpless resignation. "Look at you now—this state of yours simply won't do. You're always by yourself, and I just can't set my mind at ease. Look at Lu Sinian, he's a fine choice. He still constantly has you on his mind; why don't you consider him?"
By the end of her sentence, the matchmaking intent in Wan Yu's eyes was entirely unmasked. She was not joking in the least.
Mu Yinyin felt a mix of laughter and tears as she protested, "I just got divorced. I haven't even fully clawed my way out of my last grave yet; are you seriously trying to push me into a second one?"
"How could this second one possibly be a grave? It's a field of victory." Wan Yu frowned in disapproval. Seeing that Mu Yinyin was about to speak again, she pressed on without pausing, "I genuinely investigated Lu Sinian. He isn't as terrifying as you imagine, nor are all wealthy and powerful men as cold-blooded as Fu Siye. He's only cold to people he doesn't care about. Lu Sinian's character is truly reliable. Trust me—your big sister's judgment has always been spot on. Surely you don't doubt that?"
Mu Yinyin shook her head helplessly. "How could I ever doubt you? I just simply cannot bring myself to consider a second relationship anymore."
Wan Yu's judgment had always been remarkably accurate. Most of the time, a single glance was all she needed to discern what kind of person someone truly was.
Back then.
When Mu Yinyin insisted on marrying Fu Siye, Wan Yu had exerted a tremendous amount of effort to try and stop her, but... in the end, it was all in vain.
Mu Yinyin still went through with the marriage.
Yet even after the wedding, Wan Yu wasn't the type to continually pour cold water; instead, she helped her brainstorm ways to make Fu Siye fall in love with her. But ultimately...
It all amounted to nothing.
Wan Yu had actually foreseen this outcome at the time, but she didn't want Mu Yinyin to fall into utter despair. Besides, true heartbreak was something Mu Yinyin had to overcome on her own—after all, she was already married, and it wasn't as though she could be urged into an immediate divorce.
What if...
What if her judgment was mistaken after all? Wan Yu had harbored that thought back then, but alas...
Wan Yu let out a sigh. "There's really no need to use the past as a reference for the future, because no one person is the same as another. You have to admit that much, right?"
Mu Yinyin smiled softly. "I know that people are different. It's just that I no longer want to invest my emotional energy into relationships. Romance is fundamentally a high-stakes gamble; if you lose, you end up bruised and battered all over. I'm just too tired."
Wan Yu furrowed her brow, opening her mouth to refute, but Mu Yinyin cut her off again, "Besides, I'm already a divorcee. If I were to remarry, I'd be entering a second marriage, while Lu Sinian has never been married at all. Wouldn't I just be dragging him down?"
"What's there to be afraid of? Even if it's a second marriage, your virginity remains completely intact." Wan Yu shrugged dismissively. "Besides, so what if you've been divorced? You are a good woman. It was Fu Siye who didn't know how to cherish you; why should that mistake be held against you?"
Mu Yinyin: "..."
For a moment, she genuinely didn't know how to argue with Wan Yu.
Ever since her divorce, Wan Yu brought this up during every single conversation they had, leaving her utterly speechless and amused.
Wan Yu put down her coffee cup with a gesture of helpless frustration, looking at Mu Yinyin with a gaze that seemed to demand iron turn into steel. "Look at you—just look at you. How can you be so dense? Didn't you already tell Lu Sinian about your past, and didn't he say he doesn't mind? If he doesn't mind, what on earth are you agonizing over?"
Mu Yinyin tugged at the corners of her lips. "That's different. Besides, who can guarantee what the future holds? If this issue becomes a wedge between us down the line and I end up divorced a second time, I'd honestly be better off never marrying at all."
