Chapter 45 You Are Beautiful Today
The music had reached its crescendo, and the movements of the pair were no longer gentle and lyrical as at the start, but were growing ever more passionate. Envy flickered in the eyes of many as they watched the two on the dance floor.
The man was breathtakingly handsome.
The woman was stunningly beautiful!
They were a match made in heaven—if they were to end up together, it would surely become a tale people would speak of with admiration.
At this moment, Mu Yinyin seemed like a siren, weaving around the man, while in Lu Sinian’s eyes, there was only her—a gaze as deep and boundless as the sea. He led her through the dance, spinning and twirling with her before everyone, their performance ablaze with energy.
The lighting technician had crafted the illumination to focus on them, making the scene even more dazzling. Every beat landed flawlessly, each movement a vision of elegance and splendor.
Nan Shiqing stared at the radiant pair in the center of the stage, disbelief clouding her face.
How could this be?
How had Mu Yinyin suddenly become entangled with Lu Sinian?
She had once thought that watching Mu Yinyin with Fu Siyue was enough to twist her envy into something almost monstrous. After all her efforts to drive them apart had finally succeeded, and yet, Mu Yinyin had so effortlessly found her way to Lu Sinian!
She was a divorced woman now—how, how could she still be so sought after?
Nan Shiqing could not accept it!
Jealousy nearly consumed her, twisting her heart…
Wait.
Wait a moment?
She could still find ways to sow discord.
With this thought, Nan Shiqing strode straight toward Fu Siyue. Noticing his grim expression as he coldly watched the pair dancing in the center, she took a soft breath and said, “Siyue… It seems my sister has changed.”
Her tone was low and despondent, her voice barely above a whisper. She looked as fragile as a wilting flower, as if she might collapse at any moment.
Normally, Fu Siyue might have noticed and offered her a few words of comfort, but now he said nothing, still watching the dance floor with a cold, stony gaze.
Nan Shiqing had steeled herself for this moment, nurturing her sorrow, but received not a single glance or word from him.
Why!
Why did it have to be like this!
She could barely hold herself together.
“Siyue…” she called him again, unable to suppress herself. What was wrong with Fu Siyue now? Was he falling under Mu Yinyin’s spell? Had he realized how different she was and started to regret?
No! She had to keep him clear-headed—she could not let him act on such impulses!
Fu Siyue snapped out of his reverie and glanced at Nan Shiqing, seeing the grievance written on her face, her eyes brimming with tears. He frowned slightly, a wave of irritation rising within him.
This time, Mu Yinyin had divorced him without a single tear, without making a scene, displaying a poise and independence that was almost regal. She had let go decisively, walking away with dignity. Now that the divorce was final, the woman before him seemed perpetually helpless and pitiable.
At this moment, he found he could summon no sympathy at all.
“Siyue, I’m so upset. I don’t understand why my sister won’t speak to me anymore…” Nan Shiqing whispered, head bowed like a child who had done wrong.
When she suddenly began to cough, Fu Siyue’s eyes flickered, and he finally spoke, “Sit down.”
Nan Shiqing pressed her lips together and sat beside him.
Fu Siyue said coolly, “If she wants to ruin herself, let her. There’s no need to worry about her.”
Nan Shiqing immediately shook her head sadly. “My sister… perhaps she’s just too disappointed in us. I—I’ll find a way to win her back.”
Fu Siyue frowned, unwilling to speak further or pay her any mind.
Nan Shiqing seemed even more agitated, biting her lip, yet unable to utter a word, for she could see that Fu Siyue was already annoyed with her. Any more words would only make things worse.
Meanwhile, they were not the only ones watching the dancers.
Jiang Ling gazed intently at their direction, his eyes darkening. If one looked closely, there was a trace of sorrow in them.
Li Chuan sighed at the sight and finally said, “This can’t go on forever.”
Though he did not speak directly, both Jiang Ling and Gu Xiaoqi understood his meaning.
To continue loving Mu Yinyin this way was futile.
Jiang Ling forced a bitter smile. “Feelings are not something you can control at will, but I won’t make things difficult for her. I know she doesn’t see me that way. It’s enough for me just to protect her.”
He said no more.
He didn’t want to trouble Mu Yinyin, nor did he wish to burden her with any pressure.
Guilt flashed in Gu Xiaoqi’s eyes. “I… I shouldn’t have encouraged her earlier.”
Jiang Ling smiled faintly. “Given the situation, she had to go. If she had embarrassed President Lu in front of so many people by refusing, it would not have looked good.”
The three of them, still seated in the corner where they’d been before, found it easier to speak now that everyone’s attention was fixed on Lu Sinian and Mu Yinyin. No one was paying them any mind.
Their conversation flowed a little more freely.
Meanwhile, He Xia and He Chengkui were struggling to maintain their composure.
For Lu Sinian to make such a public statement meant that the Lu Group would never cooperate with the Mu family again. Every company eager to curry favor with the Lu Group or with Starlight’s enterprises would sever their ties with the Mu family as well.
This was the last thing they wanted! In an instant, the Mu family might plummet to rock bottom.
All they could do now was… was to have Nan Shiqing cling tightly to Fu Siyue.
Otherwise…
Bitter days lay ahead for the Mu family.
“What are we going to do now?” He Xia asked worriedly, her voice low enough for only He Chengkui to hear.
He Chengkui frowned, his tone grave. “Right now, Nan Shiqing must keep Fu Siyue on our side. Otherwise, we’re finished. We have to launch a project with the Fu Group soon, let other companies see it—maybe there’s a chance for survival. If not, we’re doomed.”
He Xia took a breath and said nothing, scanning the crowd for her daughter.
When she saw Nan Shiqing sitting beside Fu Siyue, yet with neither of them speaking, she frowned.
Because!
She could clearly see Fu Siyue’s gaze drifting again and again toward Mu Yinyin. Was he… regretting it?
For those who enjoyed watching the dance, time seemed to fly by.
But for people like He Xia and Nan Shiqing, it was pure torment.
The song seemed endless.
At last.
With the final beat, the two dancers parted.
Lu Sinian finally lifted his hand from Mu Yinyin’s slender waist.
Mu Yinyin stepped back slightly, a poised smile on her lips, her blue gown lending her an air of impeccable grace.
Lu Sinian gazed at her, his eyes soft. “You are truly beautiful tonight.”
His unreserved praise drew even more surprise from those present.
Were these two… truly involved with each other?
