Chapter 75: A Heart Full of Gossip
Mu Yinyin glanced at her indifferently, saying nothing.
He Xia and Nan Shiqing obviously could not stay any longer. Without hesitation, they turned and walked out, not even bothering with a final word. No one offered them any dignity, nor any opportunity.
Once they left, everyone instantly turned their gaze to Fu Siyue, as if waiting for him to take his leave as well.
Fu Siyue’s eyes were especially cold, but this time he chose not to utter a single word and strode out.
Mu Yinyin’s gaze flickered. She knew Fu Siyue had stayed because of Nan Shiqing. Now that Nan Shiqing was gone, he had no reason to remain.
Mu Yinyin’s lips curled, the mocking smile at the corner of her mouth undisguised.
Wan Yu’s gaze shifted, worried Mu Yinyin might be upset. She hurriedly spoke, “Finally, they’ve left! Well, since that’s the case, we’ll go first as well.”
Mu Yinyin lifted her eyes slightly but said nothing.
Wan Yu winked at Mu Yinyin, then looked toward Gu Xiaoqi and the others. “Let’s go too. Let Mr. Lu keep her company; her assistant should be arriving soon.”
Lu Sinian nodded with ease, “I’m fine, you all go handle your affairs.”
He had already settled the company matters before coming; his absence would not affect anything.
Gu Xiaoqi and Li Chuan glanced at Jiang Ling, their expressions somewhat complicated.
Jiang Ling rose and walked out without a word.
Gu Xiaoqi instinctively pulled at Li Chuan’s sleeve, a hint of worry in her eyes.
Li Chuan shook his head at her, said nothing, and also walked out.
Wan Yu smiled with satisfaction, “You two enjoy your chat~”
With that, Wan Yu left the room.
Now, only Mu Yinyin and Lu Sinian remained.
Mu Yinyin leaned against the headboard, barely moving. She was not feeling particularly well.
Moreover…
She wanted to go to the restroom.
Wan Yu, in her eagerness for Mu Yinyin and Lu Sinian to get acquainted, had overlooked the inconvenience of leaving a man behind at such a time.
Lu Sinian gazed at her, noting her delicate face was somewhat pale. He spoke softly, “Wan Yu and I have made some inquiries about your situation. I heard it was not an accident.”
Mu Yinyin tugged at her lips, “Perhaps someone wants me dead.”
Her words were casual, as if she cared little.
Lu Sinian studied her. “You already know who it is?”
Mu Yinyin remained silent.
But her demeanor was an answer in itself.
“Is there anything you need me to do?” Lu Sinian said simply, offering no further comment.
Mu Yinyin could see his sincerity in wanting to help.
Perhaps she had said little, yet Lu Sinian’s intelligence could easily deduce the situation.
At Old Madam Lu’s birthday banquet, he had stood by her unconditionally, supporting her. Now that action was being taken against the Mu family, he did not mind lending his hand.
Mu Yinyin smiled, “Thank you, but I can handle it myself.”
Revenge, unless one is utterly helpless, is better dealt with personally—it inflicts greater pain on the adversary.
Lu Sinian looked at her, his voice gentle, “If you ever need me, don’t hesitate. You saved my grandfather; I owe you a lifetime of loyalty.”
Mu Yinyin laughed softly, “I don’t work for free, so you don’t need to keep remembering that.”
When they were strangers, she naturally charged a fee.
After saving Lu Sinian’s grandfather, Mu Yinyin had received a substantial payment.
Lu Sinian chuckled, his gaze calm and leisurely as he teased, “If you wish, everything I have can be yours.”
Mu Yinyin: “……”
Here he goes again.
This man never seems to behave properly.
She said nothing, nor did she confront him directly. They had already discussed what needed to be said during their last meal together. If he was simply teasing, she would let him be.
Lu Sinian was always a man of boundaries; he would not persist unreasonably. Since she did not respond, he sensibly moved on, swiftly shifting the conversation to another topic.
Their conversation was easy and relaxed, never causing discomfort for either party.
Mu Yinyin’s eyes flashed with a hint of surprise.
Whenever she interacted with Lu Sinian, it was always like this. He was adept at adjusting the atmosphere—if she disliked a topic, he could seamlessly transition to another, avoiding awkwardness or forced conversation.
While they chatted, the sound of knocking suddenly rang in their ears.
“Come in,” Mu Yinyin called, then looked at Lu Sinian. “That should be my assistant.”
Lu Sinian raised an eyebrow, “In that case, I’ll leave you to it. If there’s anything you need, tell me immediately—don’t push through alone.”
Mu Yinyin nodded with a smile, “Alright.”
Thank you—these words, said too often, held little weight. Besides, she had no intention of truly asking Lu Sinian to do anything for her. He owed her nothing, and she disliked owing others.
Meng Tao greeted Lu Sinian respectfully, “Mr. Lu.”
Lu Sinian nodded lightly, saying nothing more, then turned his gaze to Mu Yinyin, reminding her once again, “Rest well, don’t overexert yourself these next couple of days.”
“Alright.”
And with that, Lu Sinian departed without another word.
Now, only Mu Yinyin and Meng Tao remained in the ward.
Meng Tao glanced at the closed door before finally turning to Mu Yinyin. “Ms. Mu, what happened? How did you suddenly get into a car accident last night?”
Mu Yinyin tugged at her lips, “Someone doesn’t want me alive.”
Meng Tao was Mu Yinyin’s trusted confidant and utterly loyal. Though Mu Yinyin had not been at the company these years, Meng Tao had remained devoted, never lured away by others.
She was young, but exceptionally capable—one of the reasons Mu Yinyin kept her close.
Meng Tao’s face grew grim, and she spoke in a low voice, “That mother and daughter?”
“Investigate them thoroughly,” Mu Yinyin replied, not addressing the question directly.
Meng Tao understood immediately that her guess was correct and responded at once.
“How are you feeling now, Ms. Mu?”
“I’m fine. I can be discharged tomorrow. Today I’m only here because they forced me to stay. Help me to the restroom first.”
“Oh, alright…” Meng Tao quickly stepped forward to support Mu Yinyin, her eyes growing more suspicious. “If you need help walking, are you sure you can be discharged tomorrow?”
“It’s just temporary weakness, muscle pain. It’ll be fine by tomorrow.”
Meng Tao pursed her lips but said nothing. After helping Mu Yinyin to the restroom, she waited outside the door.
When Mu Yinyin emerged, Meng Tao carefully assisted her back to the bed. In truth, Mu Yinyin was not as badly off as feared; after a few steps to adjust, she was fine.
But Meng Tao, suddenly, was struck by a wave of curiosity.
