Chapter 78: The Old Man's Hidden Agenda
Liang Min didn’t want to wait another moment; she got out of the car immediately.
“Hurry, take me inside.”
“Weren’t you just telling me not to go?” the old man snorted, sounding rather displeased.
“Don’t you know I have no sense of direction!”
You old fool!
Liang Min cursed him inwardly.
The old man snorted again and got out of the car.
Soon, the two of them reached the door of the hospital room.
Liang Min knocked quickly. “Yinyin, are you inside?”
Mu Yinyin, lying in bed, was surprised for a moment and hurriedly called out, “Quick, open the door for Grandma.”
Meng Tao answered and quickly went to the door.
Mu Yinyin instantly saw the two elders standing one after another at the entrance.
Her eyes flickered—Grandpa Fu was here too?
That was a bit unexpected.
But thinking he might have come to accompany Grandma, she didn’t dwell on it and softly greeted them, “Grandma, you’ve come.”
Grandpa Fu’s brows furrowed imperceptibly. He could sense Mu Yinyin’s dislike for him; otherwise, she would have called him Grandpa.
Liang Min walked in at once, her face full of worry as she looked at Mu Yinyin. “Girl, how did you end up in the hospital? What happened?”
It had only been a few days since the divorce, and now something had happened to Yinyin. Liang Min was terribly worried. If she hadn’t been arguing with Grandpa Fu in the car just now, she might have been even more anxious.
Mu Yinyin smiled gently. “I’m fine. How did you know I was here?”
“Your grandpa told me, brought me here to see you. Girl, are you feeling unwell or is something wrong?”
Mu Yinyin smiled softly. “I’m alright, really. Nothing’s wrong. I just came for a checkup, but everyone insisted I stay overnight for observation; otherwise, I would have been discharged today.”
Liang Min frowned deeply. “You must take care of your health—never be careless, understand? But why did you come here?”
Mu Yinyin’s gaze wavered slightly. She glanced at Grandpa Fu, seeing no particular reaction on his face—he even pulled up a chair and sat down. A hint of surprise crossed her eyes. It seemed Grandpa Fu hadn’t told Grandma about the specifics.
After a pause, she smiled and said, “I just haven’t had much appetite lately, so I came for a checkup. The tests showed nothing wrong—it's probably because I ate too much oily food before and got sick of it.”
Liang Min: “???”
She frowned and sized Mu Yinyin up. “Are you trying to fool Grandma?”
“How could I dare deceive you?”
“Who would believe such an excuse?” Liang Min’s brows knitted tighter. “Tell me now—don’t make me go find out myself! What actually happened?”
Grandpa Fu sighed. “You’d better tell the truth, or your grandma really will investigate.”
Mu Yinyin looked up in surprise. The old man was speaking to her so gently?
She couldn’t help but feel as if this wasn’t the real Grandpa Fu.
In the past, he would never give her a proper look; even when he spoke, it was usually to criticize her. But now…?
For a moment, Mu Yinyin found it hard to accept.
“Hurry up, tell the truth!” Liang Min kept her eyes on Mu Yinyin, noticing that her complexion wasn’t very good and her face was a bit pale—obviously something was wrong.
Mu Yinyin’s gaze paused, and at last she spoke softly, “I really am fine. Last night, while driving, another car crashed into mine. The airbag deployed in time, so I wasn’t hurt. My friends were just worried about me.”
“A car accident?!” Liang Min’s face changed drastically. “That’s serious!”
She immediately moved closer to Mu Yinyin, instinctively wanting to grab her arm but hesitated, afraid of touching any injuries, and quickly asked, “Are you hurt anywhere? Tell Grandma—how did a car accident happen so suddenly?”
Her voice was filled with concern.
Mu Yinyin smiled gently. “Really, Grandma, don’t worry about me. I don’t have a single scratch.”
“Really?” Liang Min was half-convinced.
Mu Yinyin smiled again. “Of course.”
She even moved nimbly, but Liang Min still looked worried.
Yet she knew she wouldn’t get more no matter how she asked.
“Grandma, I’m truly alright. I’ll be discharged tomorrow. If you don’t believe me, come see for yourself.”
Liang Min sighed helplessly, unsure what else to say, but seeing Mu Yinyin’s spirits were still good, she finally stopped pressing. “No matter what, you need to take care of yourself. Your body must be weak now. I’ll have someone send you some nourishing soup.”
Mu Yinyin was amused but didn’t stop her, smiling. “Alright.”
Grandpa Fu sat off to the side, always observing Mu Yinyin. Her demeanor was gentle and polite. At that moment, a hint of complexity crossed his eyes.
In the past, Mu Yinyin had seemed just like this, but he always felt she was too weak and incapable.
Yet on the day of Madam Lu’s birthday banquet, when Mu Yinyin boldly announced she would no longer cooperate with the Mu family, he felt that was her true self and didn’t think anything was amiss.
Now, seeing her return to her former gentle manner, he didn’t think she was weak at all.
Especially that day when she confronted him in front of everyone at the old house—though he was angry then, now thinking back, he felt that was exactly the character Mu Yinyin should have.
Perhaps his gaze was too obvious, because Mu Yinyin turned to look at him. “If you have other matters to attend to, you can go first. I’ll arrange for someone to send Grandma home later.”
Liang Min immediately looked to Grandpa Fu as well. “You go ahead. I’ll stay here with Yinyin today. I have nothing else to do.”
Grandpa Fu: “……”
So they’re both trying to drive him away?
He refused to leave!
But thinking his wife might be displeased, he finally said in a deep voice, “I just sent the driver to take care of something for me. He’ll be back in half an hour, and I’ll leave then.”
Mu Yinyin’s gaze flickered but she said nothing.
Liang Min gave him a suspicious look. Had he really given instructions? How come she didn’t know? Had he sent a message by phone?
The room suddenly grew quiet.
Mu Yinyin didn’t know what to say; with Grandpa Fu here, she felt a bit uneasy.
Meng Tao remained very quiet, practically pretending to be a robot.
Grandpa Fu, however, looked at Mu Yinyin again and spoke calmly, “I heard you’re going to cooperate with the Fu Group soon?”
Liang Min: “!!!”
She knew it! The old man had an agenda!
