Chapter 89: Do Not Disturb Our Conversation
Today was the weekend, but there was no shortage of things to do. After leaving the hospital, she still had to visit the Lu family. Now that she had established some cooperation with the Lu Corporation, it was only natural for her to pay closer attention to the Lu family. Besides, she was the one treating the old master’s illness, so it was normal for her to proactively come by for a checkup.
An hour later, at the Lu family’s ancestral home.
When Mu Yinyin arrived, Lu Sinian was already waiting for her. Today, Mu Yinyin was dressed casually, wearing a blue tracksuit. In occasions like this, one ought to dress with more gravitas, but Mu Yinyin disliked being so restrained. During the years she was married to Fu Siyue, she had grown weary of living with constant anxiety; now, she only wanted to be herself. Besides, she had no particular ambitions regarding the Lu family, nor did she need their elders to pay her any special attention. Thus, her sporting attire made her appear relaxed and carefree.
“You’re here,” Lu Sinian greeted her with a gentle smile.
Mu Yinyin smiled back, lips curling slightly. “Yes, does the old master have time now?”
“He does. Come with me.”
With that, he led her upstairs. The Lu villa was vast and imposing, but Mu Yinyin didn’t bother to inspect its grandeur. She simply followed Lu Sinian straight to the old master’s study.
The study—an important place. Mu Yinyin was surprised that Lu Sinian would bring her here. Yet, she made no fuss, didn’t touch anything, and didn’t discuss business, so there were no complications.
The old master spotted Mu Yinyin and immediately smiled kindly. “You’ve come, girl.”
Mu Yinyin nodded with a warm smile. “Hello, Grandpa Lu.”
The old master laughed heartily. “No need for the surname; just call me Grandpa.”
Mu Yinyin’s eyes flickered, surprised at his request. She nodded, smiling. “Then, shall I check your pulse?”
“Of course.” The old master cooperatively extended his hand, unable to suppress his gratitude. “If it hadn’t been for you, girl, I might not have survived. Heaven must have sent you to heal me.”
Mu Yinyin replied with a gentle smile, “It’s what I should do.”
She said no more as her fingertips settled on the old master’s wrist.
Lu Sinian stood quietly nearby, saying nothing, but the peaceful scene brought a faint smile to his lips.
Just as Mu Yinyin was about to finish, the study door opened again. Everyone turned to see a dignified and elegant lady enter, dressed in comfortable home clothes. Though advanced in years, her face showed only fine wrinkles, thanks to a life free from hardship; she appeared no older than a woman in her forties.
She adjusted her reading glasses and fixed her gaze on Mu Yinyin. “Did I startle you?”
Mu Yinyin shook her head with a smile. “Hello, Grandma.”
They had met at the previous banquet.
The old lady beamed, nodding approvingly. “Such a good girl.”
She walked over to the sofa by the wall, away from the bookshelves, and sat down. “Come, sit.”
Mu Yinyin nodded, withdrawing her hand, a trace of a smile on her lips. “You’ve recovered very well. It seems you’ve been diligent in your care these days.”
The old master laughed heartily. “I’m getting old. If I don’t cherish life now, there might be no chance left.”
Lu Sinian raised his brows. “Grandpa is now very cooperative with all treatments.”
Mu Yinyin nodded with satisfaction. “That’s very good.”
“Come, sit.” The old lady patted the empty seat beside her while speaking to Mu Yinyin.
Mu Yinyin smiled and walked over, sitting next to her. The old lady was amiable; for now, she felt much like Fu Siyue’s grandmother.
The old master remained at his desk, unmoving, while Lu Sinian took a seat opposite the women.
Mu Yinyin continued, “From now on, just maintain your routine as before. Try to keep your emotions stable and exert self-control. Though you’re cured, your illness was mostly caused by emotional fluctuations. Also, mind your diet—avoid fatty foods.”
The old master sighed helplessly. “People say that as one ages, they prefer lighter fare, but if I miss meat at a meal, something feels lacking.”
He considered himself a bit peculiar.
Mu Yinyin laughed softly. “Everyone has their preferences.”
“Why won’t you admit you’re greedy?” the old lady remarked, somewhat disdainful of her husband’s tastes. She herself liked light food, so their meals rarely matched. The household staff always had to balance meat and vegetables.
“Hmph, I never said I wasn’t greedy.” The old master’s face darkened, but he soon turned to Mu Yinyin again, smiling. “But I’m paying attention now. If I don’t start cherishing life, it’ll be gone.”
Mu Yinyin smiled. “You don’t have to avoid meat entirely. You can have some at every meal, just not too much. Reduce the portions. You could have a nutritionist plan your meals—satisfying your appetite while improving your health. I can help you find one.”
The old master chuckled, a bit embarrassed. “That’s very kind of you, girl.”
“Shameless,” the old lady snorted, then took Mu Yinyin’s hand, smiling kindly. “Girl, let’s ignore him and chat. Are you busy today?”
Mu Yinyin was surprised by the old lady’s warmth. She had no wish for a stiff relationship with the Lu family, and today was the weekend. She smiled, shaking her head. “Not busy.”
Lu Sinian raised his brows, saying nothing from across the room.
The old lady’s smile deepened. “That’s wonderful! Stay for dinner tonight. Girl, I liked you from the first moment I saw you. You suit me well. Would keeping you here to chat with an old lady make you bored?”
Mu Yinyin paused, then replied immediately, “Of course not.”
“Really? That’s good,” the old lady said, her smile growing brighter.
Even though this was the old master’s study, he seemed in no hurry to send anyone away.
Mu Yinyin cleared her throat softly. “This is Grandpa’s study, after all. Should we go elsewhere to talk?”
The old lady paused, then nodded in agreement. “You’re right. Let him work; we won’t disturb him. Come, let’s go.”
