As she spoke, she was already pulling Mu Yinyin to her feet.

Mu Yinyin was a little at a loss, both amused and helpless. This wasn't what she had intended at all.

Lu Sinian said nothing, simply standing up to follow them.

Soon, they moved to another bedroom, which also served as a place for receiving guests. After all, the living room on the first floor always had servants coming and going, which could be inconvenient for conversation. Here, though, they could talk freely.

Though Mu Yinyin was outgoing, she hadn't interacted with them enough times to speak at ease; she wasn't sure what topics they preferred or disliked. The old madam, however, seemed genuinely warm and immediately drew Mu Yinyin into casual conversation.

It was only then that Mu Yinyin realized perhaps Lu Sinian’s eloquence was inherited from his grandmother. The old lady’s words never imposed pressure, and she always brought up interesting topics. Before long, the two were chatting comfortably.

Lu Sinian sat to one side, occasionally chiming in, but for the most part, silently listening, busying himself with his phone.

Their conversation carried them almost to lunchtime. The old madam, looking especially delighted, couldn’t help but exclaim, “The moment I saw you, I liked you so much! And now, before I even realize it, it’s almost time to eat.”

Mu Yinyin smiled gently. “I’m very fond of you as well.”

Having spoken for so long, the two had grown more familiar, and their words flowed more easily. The old madam, unable to restrain herself, took Mu Yinyin’s hand and beamed, “Girl, how old are you this year?”

Mu Yinyin’s gaze paused briefly, but she returned a faint smile. “Twenty-four.”

“Twenty-four! That’s a wonderful age! Our Sinian is twenty-seven this year.”

Mu Yinyin fell silent, the conversation taking an unexpected turn.

She glanced at Lu Sinian out of the corner of her eye, but he was still playing with his phone, only smiling lightly without saying a word.

Yet—

The old madam’s next words nearly left Mu Yinyin at a loss.

“So, do you have a boyfriend now? Are you engaged or married?” The old lady smiled at her, eyes twinkling.

Mu Yinyin was momentarily speechless, but she quickly replied, unfazed, “Unlucky in marriage—just divorced.”

The old madam’s expression froze, surprise nearly showing plainly in her eyes, but after a moment she managed a rueful smile. “You little thing, always joking with me.”

“I’m not lying to you. It’s true.”

“Ah?” The old lady was utterly astonished.

Mu Yinyin only smiled lightly and said nothing more.

Meanwhile, Lu Sinian’s lips curled ever so slightly, and this time he put away his phone, lifting his gaze to Mu Yinyin and speaking softly, “It’s nothing at all. Only by leaving the wrong person can you meet the right one, isn’t that so?”

The old madam stared at him, momentarily at a loss for words.

Mu Yinyin only tugged at her lips and said nothing.

Soon, a servant came to the door and, after knocking, respectfully asked, “Madam, may I serve the food?”

“Yes, yes, bring it in!” the old madam called at once. Then, still holding Mu Yinyin’s hand warmly, she said with a laugh, “Come along, dear, let’s go eat.”

Mu Yinyin nodded with a smile.

After that, the old madam didn’t bring up marriage again, evidently still struggling to digest the news of Mu Yinyin’s divorce. The meal passed in a harmonious atmosphere, but after they finished, Mu Yinyin had no intention of lingering. After chatting for a while, she took her leave.

When the old madam returned, she instinctively turned to Lu Sinian. “Come to my room, I have a few questions for you.”

Lu Sinian, already guessing her intentions, raised an eyebrow and followed. The old master, his curiosity piqued, hurried after them as well.

The three of them soon entered the room.

With a grave expression, the old madam looked at Lu Sinian. “Was what Yinyin said true? Has she really been divorced?”

The old master’s face had also grown serious. He looked straight at Lu Sinian, saying nothing, clearly waiting for an answer.

Composed, Lu Sinian nodded. “Yes.”

“Really?!” The old madam’s brows knitted tightly, her eyes full of regret. “Oh, we’re a step too late! If you’d met her sooner, you could have married her yourself. There’d be no talk of divorce.”

“How did this happen? How is it possible?” The old master was at a loss. “She’s still so young—already divorced?”

Lu Sinian raised his brows, unconcerned. “What does it matter? It doesn’t change what I intend to do.”

The elderly couple immediately looked at Lu Sinian. The old lady, incredulous, asked, “What do you mean? You want to marry her?”

Lu Sinian’s lips curved in a faint smile. “Why not? I saw you seemed quite fond of her just now.”

The old madam sighed with some regret. “I do like her. She’s bright and sensible, so outstanding. Anyone would be lucky to have such a granddaughter-in-law. But… she is divorced, and you’re such an excellent grandson. It doesn’t seem fair to you.”

The old master’s expression darkened as he remained silent, clearly lost in thought.

Before this, they had indeed hoped for a match between Lu Sinian and Mu Yinyin. But now… Though they didn’t mind Mu Yinyin’s divorce, they couldn’t help but feel their grandson deserved better.

Lu Sinian sat down on the sofa, speaking calmly, “It’s nothing that she’s divorced. She’s alone now, and she’s so exceptional—I don’t want to miss the chance.”

Yet, Lu Sinian didn’t know that, though Mu Yinyin had been married, she was still untouched; she’d never once slept with Fu Siyan. Even knowing only that she was divorced, he was willing to accept her—if he knew the rest, he’d be even more willing.

“You…” The old madam was at a loss for words, her gaze growing ever more complicated. She truly liked this girl, but…

She let out a long, uncontrollable sigh, her expression mingling tangled, indescribable emotions.

The old master spoke quietly, “It’s too soon to say anything. Let’s wait and see. Maybe that girl simply says she doesn’t want to marry—maybe she never meant to.”

The old madam’s eyes glinted as she nodded. “That’s possible. Even if it’s true, I can’t help but praise her. She’s clever, never tries to curry favor, so different from most girls. Even knowing she’s divorced, I still like her. It’s just…”

Here, the old lady sighed again, clearly torn in her heart.
