The Nan family.

After a day of unrest, Nan Shiqing was finally brought home by Fu Seye. However, he only accompanied her to the door. Once she got out of the car, he left immediately, with no intention of coming inside. She tried to invite him, but Fu Seye clearly had no such interest. This left Nan Shiqing feeling unsettled, as if she could no longer grasp hold of this man.

Now, back in her bedroom, Nan Shiqing’s face was clouded with gloom.

Beside her stood He Xia, who had been all but dragged into the room by her daughter. Nan Shiqing’s grip had been so forceful it took He Xia by surprise. Once the door was closed, He Xia looked at her in confusion, unable to understand. “Why did you pull me in here so suddenly? What’s happened?”

Nan Shiqing’s expression was particularly grim as she bit down on her words. “Today at the hospital, I saw Mu Yinyin.”

He Xia’s brows knitted together. “Did she do something to you again?”

Mu Yinyin was no longer as easy to handle as she once was. Every move she made now was without any regard for appearances, or even her own reputation. She dared to confront them openly in front of so many people, making it impossible for them to react.

If Mu Yinyin targeted them in private, they could have handled it. But to be attacked openly, unexpectedly, left them at a loss. After all, they had carefully cultivated the image that they treated Mu Yinyin as family, with kindness and affection. Even with what Mu Yinyin was doing now, they couldn’t turn against her outright, or all their previous efforts would be in vain.

Mu Yinyin, on the other hand, didn’t care at all what others thought of her. Every word out of her mouth was cold and unyielding. Did she really not care about gossip and criticism? Or was she simply too powerful? The existence of Starry Group alone was enough to make countless people wary of her.

The involvement of the Lu Group only added to their confusion. To this day, they couldn’t understand why Lu Sinian was so good to Mu Yinyin. There had to be something they didn’t know.

“She didn’t do anything to me.” He Xia looked at her daughter in puzzlement. “Then why are you acting so strange today?”

Nan Shiqing clenched her teeth and fists before speaking again. “Because we’ve been played by Mu Yinyin. Do you know what other identity she has?”

“What?” He Xia’s face turned serious, staring at her daughter, waiting for her to continue.

Nan Shiqing, exasperated, burst out, “She’s actually a doctor!”

“A doctor?” He Xia’s confusion was plain to see, as though she couldn’t believe her ears. But seeing her daughter’s face grow darker, she realized she hadn’t misheard—Mu Yinyin really did possess medical skills.

“How can that wretch have so many tricks up her sleeve! She’s been deceiving us this whole time! Mom, do you realize? We’re the ones who’ve been kept in the dark from start to finish, not her!”

He Xia’s expression darkened, clearly displeased. After a moment, she spoke slowly, “Forget it. Now that we know what sort of person she is, there’s nothing more to say. So what if she’s a doctor? It doesn’t really affect us. You don’t need to worry.”

“How does it not affect us!” Nan Shiqing’s voice had turned shrill. At He Xia’s uncomprehending look, she gritted her teeth and continued, “If it really didn’t matter, would I be telling you all this? If she was just some ordinary doctor, would I care at all?”

He Xia’s face grew even more somber as she frowned deeply. “What’s really going on? Tell me everything, and don’t leave anything out.”

This time, Nan Shiqing could no longer hold back and poured out everything that had happened at the hospital. He Xia’s face grew even darker as she realized the critical point of the matter.

Watching Nan Shiqing’s chest heave with anger, He Xia said in a heavy tone, “So her medical skills are extraordinary. Even the hospital director thought what she achieved was a miracle—something impossible—and yet she managed it.”

Nan Shiqing ground her teeth, but it was the truth. Even if she was loath to admit it, she could only grumble her assent.

The next moment, Nan Shiqing said resentfully, “Now the Guo family has agreed not to work with us anymore, siding with Mu Yinyin. If more serious cases like this arise in the future, won’t Mu Yinyin just win everyone over?”

He Xia frowned and made her way to the sofa, sitting down with a cold voice. “So what I’m wondering is, could the Lu Group’s close relationship with Mu Yinyin also be because of this?”

Nan Shiqing was taken aback, clearly sensing something was off. She muttered, “I heard that Old Master Lu’s health is very poor. Not long ago, he underwent major surgery—he was on the brink of death and had to be pulled back from the gates of hell.”

He Xia said nothing.

Nan Shiqing grew even more agitated. “That must be it! What other connection could there be between their families? But Mu Yinyin was always with us—when did she become so skilled in medicine? Why didn’t she ever mention a word of it? She never even treated anyone in our family!”

After she finished, He Xia didn’t reply. There was nothing left to say. From beginning to end, they had simply been too naïve.

Mu Yinyin had never regarded them as family, whereas they had foolishly thought themselves great actors, only to find they had been played all along.

The only consolation, perhaps, was that Mu Yinyin’s father was dead.

After a pause, Nan Shiqing spoke in a low voice, “If that’s the case, we must find a way to get rid of her. Otherwise, she’ll become a bigger and bigger threat.”

“Our last attempt failed, and the police are still investigating. If we push further, who knows what will happen. For now, there’s nothing we can do,” He Xia said with a furrowed brow.

Nan Shiqing’s expression turned vicious, her voice sharp. “So we’re just supposed to stand by and watch Mu Yinyin thrive? She’s already started her revenge. If we don’t act soon, things will only get worse. The Mu Group will become a thorn in everyone’s side. How will we survive then? Even Fu Seye will leave me!”

If not for fear of someone overhearing, Nan Shiqing would have shouted that last sentence.

He Xia frowned, watching her daughter on the verge of collapse, and spoke coldly, “Calm yourself first.”

“Calm? How can I possibly calm down? I—”

Before she could finish, He Xia cut her off, returning to the heart of the matter. “Mu Yinyin’s sudden rise and her willingness to expose her identity mean she’s targeting us. There are only a handful of well-known doctors like her—who is she, and how did she get connected with such people?”

In that moment, Nan Shiqing fell silent, clearly realizing the gravity of the situation.
