Seizing Control of the Control Room
Gamora is indeed Thanos’s adopted daughter, but Thanos is also her sworn enemy. Therefore, she was extremely in favor of Star-Lord and the others’ proposal. However, apart from Star-Lord and Li Daniu, no one else trusted her very much.
Star-Lord was blinded by her feminine charms. Of course, Li Daniu simply could not understand what kind of charm a green-skinned woman could possibly possess; the reason Li Daniu trusted her was simply because he knew the plot of the story.
After agreeing to join the crew, Gamora did not immediately reveal what the treasure Star-Lord had stolen actually was, only stating that she could find a buyer, and furthermore, that her buyer was willing to pay four billion units for it.
What kind of concept was four billion units?
Li Daniu was not from this world, so this number did not shock him particularly much. But for the Raccoon and Star-Lord, this price was truly astronomical.
The Raccoon had been willing to capture Star-Lord just for forty thousand units and had claimed he was going to be rich, which gave a clear sense of just how immensely valuable four billion units was.
As for Groot, he had always behaved very honestly, even appearing a bit wooden, but that did not mean he did not care about money; otherwise, he wouldn't have spent his time tagging along behind the Raccoon.
Meanwhile, Drax the Destroyer had only one goal, which was to kill Ronan. He did not care much about the four billion units, but since a treasure of such immense value had been snatched from Ronan's subordinates, he firmly believed it could be used as bait to draw Ronan out.
Everyone had different motives, but at the very least, their goals temporarily aligned: break out of prison, sell the treasure, and draw out Ronan.
Of course, to Star-Lord, the Raccoon, and the others, Ronan would inevitably come after them, so having someone as immensely powerful as the Destroyer in combat was undoubtedly a huge advantage.
As an expert proficient in all kinds of technological weapons, the Raccoon formulated the prison break plan.
"Since the identification system in this prison is very powerful, I first need to get the security guards' identity authentication devices."
Gamora said with confidence, "Leave that to me!"
The Raccoon continued, "Do you see the alarm device on the central watchtower? I need the energy battery inside it!"
Star-Lord glanced at the watchtower in the middle of the prison and said with a shake of his head, "Are you kidding us? That alarm is over six meters off the ground, and the surface of the watchtower is completely smooth. We don't have any equipment, how are we supposed to get it?"
Drax's deep, rumbling voice sounded.
"I can jump that high and pull that alarm down."
The Raccoon shook his head and said, "If you just pull the alarm down directly, the prison will immediately go into lockdown mode. We don't have any equipment, so how are we supposed to fight fully geared guards? Groot can temporarily increase his height. Any of you who know how to dismantle an alarm can stand on Groot's shoulders and go up to take out the energy battery. Of course, that's assuming someone can create chaos to attract the attention of the prisoners and guards."
Li Daniu noticed that, just like in the movie, Groot had already walked under the watchtower, then extended his height, preparing to tear down the alarm.
However, he did not speak up to stop him, because he knew that Ronan's warship was already on its way to this prison, and they did not have much time to slowly execute the prison break plan. Fortune favors the bold; if they were to cross paths with Ronan's warship right here inside this space prison, they would undoubtedly be dead for sure.
That space warship possessed main cannons, and it was entirely possible for it to blast this space prison into dust with a single shot. Even if the Destroyer was not afraid of the main cannons, in the vacuum of space, with no solid ground to stand on and no air, the Destroyer would die too.
When he saw Groot already touching the alarm, Li Daniu asked, "Raccoon, you just said that if the alarm is torn down, the prison will immediately go into lockdown mode?"
The Raccoon nodded and said, "That's right. Therefore, we first need to find a way to create chaos, and then..."
Before the Raccoon could finish his sentence, a shrill, piercing alarm bell rang throughout the entire prison. The others only then noticed that Groot had already ripped the alarm down and torn it right open.
The Raccoon reacted the fastest, shouting at the top of his lungs, "Gamora, go get the identity identifier! Destroyer and Daniu, hold off the guards! Star-Lord, protect me while I build the equipment!"
Following the Raccoon's shout, the group moved swiftly. They were all seasoned veterans; not a single one of them did not know what they ought to do.
Gamora was just about to find a guard to seize an identity identifier when she felt a blur before her eyes. Li Daniu had already darted in front of the nearest guard, grabbed him by the collar, and hurled him straight toward her.
Catching the guard reflexively, Gamora realized with a shock that the guard had somehow mysteriously passed out.
Li Daniu knew time was of the essence, so he had no time to explain to Gamora that he had used his internal energy to knock the guard unconscious. Of course, even if he had the time, there was no need to explain.
Although the weapons used by these guards were extremely advanced—not lacking in high-end personal weapons like laser guns—they were merely ordinary Xandarians. While their physical attributes were somewhat superior to those of Earthlings, because they had not undergone any enhancement surgeries or modifications, their stamina and reaction times still fell within the normal human range.
Li Daniu was truly like a tiger entering a flock of sheep. Relying on his movement arts and speed, he moved like a ghost, darting up to the guards before they could even react, knocking them out one by one with a single strike each.
As for the Destroyer's combat style, it was much more brutal. He simply charged straight through the guards' concentrated firepower, rushed up to them, and swatted them away.
The other prisoners, seeing that the area had descended into chaos, also began attacking the guards. For the inmates locked up in this prison, even the ones who looked the friendliest were certainly no saints.
Amidst the melee, the Raccoon had already retrieved the energy battery from the alarm and the guard's identity identifier, and with incredible speed, he assembled them into a small device. Shielded by Star-Lord and Gamora, he rushed toward the watchtower.
Taking only a few seconds, under the shocked gazes of the guards inside the watchtower, the Raccoon used the device he had just cobbled together to unlock the watchtower's door.
Gamora rushed in, knocked out the guard inside, and tossed him out. At the Raccoon's behest, Star-Lord ran outside to call Li Daniu and the Destroyer to come up.
Li Daniu knew that entering the watchtower meant truly being safe, so he didn't hesitate to channel his lightness skill. Under the dumbfounded gazes of Star-Lord and Gamora, he leaped ten meters straight up from the ground and directly entered the watchtower.
The Destroyer lacked such agility and could only smash his way through, climbing up the levels floor by floor.
At that moment, the combat drones inside the prison had already arrived in the chaotic zone. One of them locked onto the Destroyer without hesitation, unlashing countless bullets at him mid-air.
In an instant, sparks flew everywhere. The bullets slammed into the Destroyer's body, only to be completely deflected. The Destroyer leaped up, grabbed the hovering combat drone, and upon landing, let out a roar. With brute force from both hands, he ripped the combat drone straight in half.
By the time the Destroyer, covered by Groot, charged into the watchtower, the Raccoon had already hacked into the prison's system and closed the watchtower's doors.
Star-Lord looked at the guards outside, who were rapidly regaining control of the riot, and could not help asking, "Is your plan really just to make us hide inside this watchtower? I know the glass all around us has high defensive capabilities, but there's no way we can hide in here forever. Besides, there must be weapons in this prison powerful enough to shatter this glass."
The Raccoon's paws flew busily across the control console, and he still had the composure to reply to Star-Lord.
"Don't panic. You have to trust me; I've successfully broken out of twenty-two prisons."
A few minutes later, the riot outside had been brought under control, and all the guards had their weapons aimed at the top of the watchtower—the control room where Li Daniu and the others were located.
Furthermore, eight hovering combat drones had also locked their firing ports onto the control room.
"Everyone inside, listen up: drop your weapons and open the control room hatch."
The Raccoon, who was still working at the console, suddenly bounced up to the glass window, made a funny face at the commander below, and then went right back to his controls.
Star-Lord said with a bitter smile, "I have a feeling you're going to get us killed."
No sooner had Star-Lord spoken than the guards outside began a concentrated barrage of fire. With the guards' weapons combined with the firepower of the combat drones, no matter how bulletproof the control room's glass was, it couldn't possibly hold out for very long.
Three minutes later, one of the glass windows of the control room cracked.
Before Star-Lord and the others could find proper cover, with a sharp *crack*, a chunk of that glass window shattered completely!
