When Li Daniu closed his eyes, he was still lying on the bed in his own room. But when he opened them again, the entire world had changed.

“System, why is every transmigration so sudden and unprepared?”

“You’ll get used to it.”

Get used to it? Damn you.

“Which movie is this?” Li Daniu looked around at the towering skyscrapers, but the desolation was enough to chill the soul.

“I Am Legend.”

Damn, damn, damn! Li Daniu’s nerves instantly snapped.

“System, do you want me dead, or are you trying to destroy the real world?”

It wasn’t unreasonable for Li Daniu to be so agitated; after all, this movie was extremely dangerous.

Li Daniu remembered “I Am Legend” vividly. It was released around 2007, but the story’s real timeline begins in 2012, echoing the apocalyptic rumors of that era.

In 2009, humanity developed a virus capable of curing cancer. After more than ten thousand people were treated and recovered, the virus began to mutate. Half of those people started exhibiting rabies-like symptoms—attacking anyone they saw—becoming, in effect, zombies.

The protagonist, Robert, portrayed by the Black star Will Smith, holds the rank of Colonel and works as a military virologist.

After the virus mutates, it spreads through the air. Robert explains the carnage in the film.

Of the world’s 5.4 billion people, ninety percent were killed outright by the virus. Of the remaining ten percent, only one percent were immune to infection. The other nine percent—about 480 million people—became the Night Seekers, the zombies of the film.

Fifty-four million people immune, it sounds like a lot, but zombies devour humans—a truth that never changes in this world. In the movie, most of those immune were either hunted by zombies or died due to a lack of essential supplies and medical care.

The movie opens three years after the outbreak, with Robert and his dog speeding through an abandoned New York City, searching for necessary supplies.

All of New York is deserted, except for him and an untold number of zombies.

“System, am I immune to the virus?”

Li Daniu asked nervously. The zombies in this movie world posed little threat to him now—except perhaps the mutated variant, which could be troublesome. The rest, he could handle as easily as chopping vegetables.

But for a transmigrator like Li Daniu, the greatest danger in this movie wasn’t the zombies—it was the virus that had been spreading in the air for three years.

The Nine Yang Divine Skill claimed immunity to all poisons, but those were poisons from the martial arts world—at worst, deadly toxins that kill on contact. The virus in this movie, though, was a high-tech product that destroyed all of humanity. Li Daniu had no confidence he was among the one percent immune.

“No!” came the system’s voice, colder than ever.

Damn it.

Li Daniu’s vision darkened. He pictured himself infected, transformed into a zombie. If he survived three months without being killed by Robert, then the system would surely transmit his zombified self back to the real world without hesitation.

After becoming a zombie, whatever happened in this world or the real world would no longer concern Li Daniu. But imagining himself returning to the real world carrying the virus, turning it into a mirror of this movie’s apocalypse, made him panic.

Such a colossal crime—the system would never bear it. It would fall squarely on him. With such a burden, would his next life be any better? He’d surely reincarnate as a stone in a public restroom.

Li Daniu sat on the ground in utter defeat. Tuvalu had finally turned around for him; he was about to start a luxurious life, and now he’d transmigrated into this movie, basically doomed. This virus was extremely contagious; without immunity, infection meant turning into a zombie within an hour.

In the original film, Robert’s dog, after being bitten by a zombie, fully transformed within minutes.

What can you do in a few dozen minutes?

Though Robert eventually developed a cure, Li Daniu had no idea which point in the timeline he’d transmigrated into. The movie spanned three years. Last time, he’d arrived eight years before the main plot started. Why couldn’t this time be within those three years?

Even if Robert had the vaccine now, how big was New York? Li Daniu didn’t even know where he was—how could he find Robert in a matter of minutes?

“System, how much time do I have before infection?”

Li Daniu felt utterly drained, lying down and staring at the clear sky.

“You have already been infected.”

Ha, just as expected. Li Daniu’s lips twitched.

“When will I turn into a zombie?”

“Estimated to fully transform in one month.”

A month—he had one month left. But what could he accomplish in a month? Li Daniu laughed bitterly, then froze—a month?

“System, you mean I become a zombie in one month?”

“To be precise, your body will begin showing zombie features in twenty days, and full transformation occurs at thirty days.”

“Isn’t this virus highly potent? People transform in under an hour; why am I only starting to change after thirty—no, twenty days?” Li Daniu grew excited. You can’t do anything in minutes, but a month offers hope.

“Because your body has a certain degree of resistance.”

“Is it because of the Nine Yang Divine Skill?” Li Daniu leapt up.

“Yes.”

“What’s the current timeline? Has Robert developed the vaccine?”

Just as hope began to flicker, the system doused it with cold water.

System, does your mother know how uncooperative you are?

Li Daniu looked at the sky; the sun was at its peak. At this time, Robert should be at a dock, broadcasting on the radio to find other survivors.

But where was that dock?

When watching movies, few people remember fleeting place names. Li Daniu scratched his head for a long time, unable to recall the name. He only remembered it was near the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.

He also remembered that, at this moment, a warship should be docked there, with several fighter jets on its deck. Robert would be standing on a jet’s wing, playing golf.

But how do you get to the Brooklyn Bridge?

Li Daniu desperately missed the convenience of smartphone navigation!
