You two are perverts.

Unlike the thrilling encounter depicted in the film, their meeting was rather uneventful due to the presence of Li Dan Niu. Having already met Li Dan Niu, a pseudo-survivor, Robert was mentally prepared for the possibility that there were other survivors in the world. As for Anna, she had come after hearing Robert’s broadcast; though she was pleasantly surprised, it was not as dramatic as one might expect.

“My name is Anna, and this is Ethan,” Anna introduced herself, holding her gun.

“Miss Anna, please don’t be so tense. We’re all good people here,” Robert said excitedly at the appearance of a woman. Even though she was accompanied by a child, Robert hadn’t seen a woman in three years.

“This is Robert. I’m Tarek,” Li Dan Niu added, fully understanding Anna’s caution. In the apocalypse, people's vigilance becomes much stronger, especially for women with children.

Seeing Robert holster his gun and Li Dan Niu standing there in a relaxed manner, Anna gradually let her guard down. After a brief exchange and initial introductions, Anna agreed to go to Robert’s residence.

They drove in two cars, one after the other, to Robert’s home. Li Dan Niu hauled the captured Night Demon from the trunk.

“Tarek, what are you carrying?” Anna asked anxiously when she saw the travel bag slung over Li Dan Niu’s shoulder; it appeared to contain a person.

“Oh, it’s a Night Demon,” he replied.

“What did you say?” Anna was about to draw her gun when Li Dan Niu answered, “Are you kidding me?”

Robert quickly jumped in to clarify. He could see Anna’s concern, suspecting they had captured a survivor.

“Don’t worry, it really is a Night Demon. I specialize in virus research, and we caught this Night Demon to test our vaccine.”

Li Dan Niu noticed Anna wasn’t reassured by Robert’s explanation and realized the issue.

“The sunlight outside is too strong. Once we go inside, you’ll see what’s inside.”

After a moment’s hesitation, Anna decided to follow Robert and Li Dan Niu into the house, her gun never leaving her hand, the safety always off.

Inside, Li Dan Niu opened the bag just enough to reveal the Night Demon. When Anna gasped in shock, he quickly zipped it up again; even in those few seconds, the Night Demon’s skin had begun to corrode from the sunlight.

“You… you…” Anna was filled with terror at the sight of the Night Demon. Even though it was restrained, she instinctively shielded Ethan, unsure what to say.

“Would you like to see our laboratory?” Robert, clearly fascinated by Anna, extended an invitation.

“Of course,” she replied.

Li Dan Niu ignored Robert’s obvious excitement. After all, he thought, a man who hasn’t seen a woman in three years might be interested in anything female, let alone Anna, who was quite attractive.

In the laboratory, Li Dan Niu strapped the Night Demon to an iron bed, while Anna noticed another woman lying on a separate bed.

“What did you do to her?” Anna instantly raised her gun, aiming it at Robert and Li Dan Niu.

“Wait… don’t be nervous, she’s a Night Demon,” Robert quickly raised his hands, while Li Dan Niu continued securing the Night Demon without concern.

“You think I’m blind?” Anna glanced again at the woman on the other bed. Aside from her tattered clothes and bald head, she appeared perfectly normal. To Anna, this was proof of Robert and Li Dan Niu’s depravity.

“Hey! Tarek, put your hands up or I’ll shoot!” Anna shouted when Li Dan Niu continued as he pleased.

“Robert, don’t you find women troublesome?” Li Dan Niu asked, though he wasn’t afraid Anna would shoot, he stopped to avoid having to explain how he could dodge bullets.

“Tarek, that’s your mistake. How can you say women are troublesome?” Robert retorted, “Even if they sometimes lack common sense, you can’t deny that the world can’t exist without women.”

As Robert and Li Dan Niu began to argue, Anna grew bewildered. She shielded Ethan behind her, gun raised, unsure how to proceed. The woman chained to the bed looked like a normal person, and Anna worried she might end up in a similar situation.

“She… really is a Night Demon,” Ethan whispered from behind Anna.

“See, even a child understands better than you,” Robert shrugged and laughed.

Anna didn’t trust Robert and Li Dan Niu, but she trusted her child. Hearing Ethan’s words, she ordered them not to move as she cautiously approached the female Night Demon on the bed.

Upon closer inspection, Anna found that although the woman looked normal, certain details betrayed her true nature: unusually sharp nails, calluses on her feet—traits no normal human should possess.

“So, you’re saying… this is a Night Demon!” Anna asked uncertainly. “And you used the vaccine to restore her to this state?”

“Correct,” Robert applauded. “Now we’re going to inject the vaccine into the newly captured Night Demon. Do you still want to keep your gun trained on us? Keep in mind, I might be the only person in this world who’s developed a vaccine. If you accidentally fire, you could destroy humanity’s hope.”

Li Dan Niu couldn’t help but laugh at Robert’s words, equating his own safety with the hope of all mankind. It was a boast he couldn’t refute.

“Anna, neither of us has a gun. You can stand back and wait until we prove ourselves before deciding if we’re perverts.”

“No, no, no!” Robert exclaimed. “Anna only thinks you’re a pervert, don’t lump me in.”

After a bout of banter, Anna relaxed, lowered her gun, and prepared to watch Robert and Li Dan Niu’s demonstration.

Robert produced the vaccine and other necessary injection fluids, while Li Dan Niu handled the physical task of covering the Night Demon completely with ice.

Anna wasn’t versed in medicine, but she could understand some of the readings. After the vaccine was injected, the male Night Demon’s heart rate and other vital signs gradually normalized.

“It works! The virus infection rate in his body is starting to drop,” Robert cheered. “It looks like our vaccine isn’t just a fluke with Night Demons.”

“No, it’s your vaccine, Robert,” Li Dan Niu said, happy to see there was a solution for the virus in his own body. He didn’t take credit—developing the vaccine had been entirely Robert’s achievement. Besides, he wasn’t from this world; titles like vaccine developer or savior of humanity meant nothing to him.

“Tarek, how can you say that? Without your help, I would still be stumbling around in circles,” Robert replied, referring to Li Dan Niu’s suggestion to use ice to lower the virus’s activity.

“That’s not important,” Li Dan Niu dismissed the topic. “So, what’s our next step?”

“The next step is to find more survivors and use the vaccine to save the world,” Anna said, now fully convinced she had misunderstood them.

“No,” Robert shook his head. “We still have to wait for these two specimens to wake up and see if they’ve truly regained human intelligence.”

“How long will that take?” Anna asked, excitement in her voice. The future of humanity was at stake; being part of this process was far more thrilling than meeting two survivors.

“About three days,” Robert replied. “So, do you believe now that we—oh, I mean, Tarek—isn’t a pervert?”

“Not really,” Anna smiled. “You’re definitely perverts. You cured the female Night Demon but didn’t bother to give her any clothes. Are you hoping she’ll look better exposed?”

Robert: “…”

Li Dan Niu: “The task of changing her clothes is yours. Otherwise, you’ll say we’re taking advantage of her.”
