Chapter 30: Encountering Tracy Again
As the head of the grade finished his passionate speech, the assembly finally drew to a close. The brilliance of this competition was enough to be recorded in the annals of Porter Academy. The names of Rowling, Simone, and others would soon be known throughout the entire school.
Rowling, Mahler, Karina, and a few others who had both won the championship and earned gold coins were naturally in high spirits as they made their way to the dining hall, ready to indulge themselves in a celebratory feast.
As they neared the hall, Mahler suddenly suggested, “Hey, why don’t we get our food and take it back to the dorm to celebrate? After all, the dining hall is a public place, not exactly convenient. Back in our dorm, we can do whatever we want. What do you all think?”
“Good idea! There’s more space in the dorm, and it’ll be much more comfortable to eat and drink there,” Third Brother Bill immediately chimed in.
Rowling, Gebaz, and Karina had no objections either.
“Alright, everyone, just pick whatever you like. Today’s meal is on me!” Rowling said with a smile. Having just received a thousand gold coins in prize money, he was more than willing to splurge a little.
“Hey, Fourth, you fought hard for those coins, but I made four thousand gold without even stepping onto the stage! This meal should be my treat. Besides, everyone gets a share of the winnings, especially you, Fourth. If it weren’t for you, I’d have lost a lot. When we get back to the dorm, let’s divide it up among ourselves. So, this meal is paid for with everyone’s money, really.” Mahler grinned.
He remembered all too well that when he was forced into another bet with Warren, he had no confidence at all, but still had to go through with it. At that moment, Gebaz, Bill, and Karina hadn’t hesitated to share the bet with him, even though everyone thought Rowling had almost no chance of winning. For that, Mahler was deeply grateful.
As for Rowling, there was no need to say more. He had fought his way through the competition, reached the finals, and, despite being seriously injured, finally defeated Simone to win the championship. Although the prize money was his goal, Rowling’s victories were decisive in winning the wager, so he would never keep the four thousand gold for himself.
“No way, Boss, you can’t be serious!” Mahler and Bill each grabbed the fat man’s arm and shook it wildly.
Mahler’s arm nearly got pulled off by the two of them. He quickly stopped them and said irritably, “You two brats, when have I ever lied?”
“Yes!” Gebaz and Bill jumped up in unison. If it weren’t for Mahler’s chubby hands blocking them, they would have rushed up and kissed him, which thoroughly disgusted the fat man. Karina and Rowling watched the three of them from the side, snickering.
Mahler, feeling guilty, glanced around at the curious looks from nearby students, hastily straightened his rumpled clothes, and glared fiercely at Gebaz and Bill, prompting everyone to burst into laughter.
They then split up, each hurrying to select their favorite dishes. Since the competition was over and the holiday started the next day, this would be the last time they’d see each other for a while, so no one held back on the food.
When they regrouped and placed their food together, they found it filled up three entire tables!
“Heavens, isn’t this a bit much? I don’t think my spatial ring can even hold all this. Let’s each carry some by hand!” Mahler’s small eyes widened in shock as he gazed at the mountain of food, swallowing hard.
“No need for that, Boss. Let me handle it.” Rowling waved his arm over the food, and it vanished without a trace.
Gebaz and the others stared in amazement. “Fourth, when did you get a spatial ring? And it’s bigger than Boss’s!”
Rowling called them out of the dining hall and explained as they walked, “Do you remember the big boulder that appeared in front of me during the finals?”
Mahler slapped his forehead. “Right! I thought you were using some kind of magic, but it was an actual stone. I couldn’t have fit that in my ring—it’s way too heavy!”
Gebaz also realized, “Fourth, is that little skeleton also stored in there?”
Rowling nodded.
“My god, how big is your spatial ring? Where did you get it, and how much did it cost? Wait, I don’t see a ring on your hand—did you put it in your pocket?” Mahler exclaimed, firing off questions.
Rowling didn’t hide the truth. “Boss, it’s not a spatial ring. It’s a space created by my magic training—about ten cubic meters in size.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Karina and the others looked at him in astonishment. Magic training could create a space like a spatial ring, and even bigger? Where could one find such fortune?
They bombarded him with questions about what magic he had trained in and how to do it themselves. Not just them—every mage would dream of such a space. Without Rowling’s necromancer’s space, they’d all be lugging piles of food by hand instead of strolling so leisurely.
But Rowling dashed their hopes with a single sentence: “To train in this space, you have to have the dark element.”
The dark element? Not a single one of them possessed it, and among the many students with the dark element, none had ever heard of anyone creating such a space. So even with the right element, achieving such a feat must be incredibly difficult. All they could do was look on with envy.
“Fourth, when we get back to the dorm, you have to show us your necromancer’s space!” Mahler said with longing.
“And the little skeleton. It was awesome on stage—beat Simone bloody!” Bill’s eyes shone.
“Ha, and that boulder—it was a huge help!” Gebaz added with a laugh.
However, as the group chatted and joked along the way, they suddenly stopped in unison. Ahead stood a fair-skinned, rather handsome youth, his eyes fixed on Rowling and Karina, who were walking closely together. His face was clouded with gloom.
“Treshi, is there something you need?” Rowling asked calmly, his tone even.
