In Alakazam’s eyes, a pink glow flickered, and then a psychic shock surged forth from the crossing point of its spoons before vanishing into the void without a trace.

At that moment, Charmeleon had just stopped retreating, and immediately unleashed another jet of flames toward Alakazam.

Alakazam’s psychic shock was fully charged, colliding head-on with the jet of fire. After a tense standoff, a tremendous explosion rang out.

The flames turned into a rain of fire, splashing in all directions, while the psychic shock dissipated completely without leaving any residual effect.

This clash of forces was evenly matched.

With the fire blast rendered ineffective, Charmeleon charged at Alakazam without hesitation, its claws enveloped in a purplish-red energy—a blend of different forces.

Charmeleon didn’t roar; instead, it gritted its teeth fiercely, glaring at Alakazam with eyes nearly bursting with rage. Its legs pounded the ground swiftly and forcefully, leaving scorch marks on the earth—a clear sign it had used the flame acceleration technique. Then, at incredible speed, Charmeleon launched its attack.

Alakazam’s reaction was no less swift, but its physical defense was undeniably weak. It had no intention of taking the hit head-on. In an instant, it teleported behind Charmeleon and swung its spoons like psychic blades, aiming at Charmeleon’s neck.

In reality, teleportation was not like in games where you simply swap places. It was a skill used for short-distance dashes and, if strong enough, could cover long distances—an incredibly convenient ability.

This explained why Psychic-type Pokémon were immensely popular among trainers. They could attack, defend, pursue, and retreat. As long as the trainer’s skill was sufficient, even those not specializing in Psychic-types would usually have one or two on their teams simply because of their versatility.

Thinking this, Chen Ou felt he should catch a Psychic-type Pokémon. After all, psychic abilities were quite handy. More importantly, ever since he learned from Liu Nian that his power wasn’t limited to Fire-type Pokémon, he had been eager to capture a Pokémon of a different type to test it out.

But now was no time to be distracted; Charmeleon’s situation was indeed precarious.

“Charmeleon, Iron Tail!” Chen Ou observed the battle closely. Seeing Charmeleon’s predicament, he immediately commanded.

Without hesitation, Charmeleon’s tail gathered steel energy instantly. With Chen Ou’s power enhancement, that tail was no ordinary Iron Tail—it was a heated, glowing iron tail!

When Alakazam saw the blazing Iron Tail strike toward itself, it immediately shifted the direction of its psychic blades to confront the attack head-on. At the same time, the pink glow flickered again in Alakazam’s eyes.

The psychic blades clashed with the Iron Tail. As a mage-type Pokémon, Alakazam was not strong physically. Yet, despite this, it was a champion-level Pokémon with a physique far superior to Charmeleon’s current state. Fortunately, Charmeleon’s physical moves were augmented by Chen Ou’s power, adding a magical damage component.

Thus, Charmeleon and Alakazam fought on par, both flying backward from the collision. Alakazam immediately stabilized itself midair using telekinesis, suspending itself in the air.

Charmeleon rolled on the ground to dissipate the force, then planted its claws to regain footing. But the ground was too hard—Chen Ou’s flames couldn’t even burn through it. Although Charmeleon’s claws were sharp, they couldn’t pierce the surface.

This was a frustrating predicament.

Charmeleon slid back several meters, leaving three long white streaks on the ground.

Chen Ou sighed; this time, the floor was to blame.

Just as Charmeleon regained balance, Alakazam crossed its spoons again in midair.

“Alakazam!”

“Dodge, Charmeleon!”

A psychic shock erupted from the void and struck Charmeleon from the left side!

“Roar!”

Charmeleon howled in pain and was sent flying to the right.

Having just stabilized, it lost control once more. That “Future Sight” was devastatingly accurate—Charmeleon hadn’t anticipated it, and Chen Ou’s command had been a fraction too slow.

Though Chen Ou had been wary of Alakazam’s Future Sight, he was still a step behind. This showed that while Chen Ou had talent and intuition, his experience lagged slightly behind these seasoned opponents.

There was no way around it—no matter how much theory one studied, the ever-changing dynamics of battle could overwhelm. But this also stemmed from Chen Ou’s refusal to unleash his full power.

Had he fully activated his enhancement abilities, the flames could have formed a solid fire armor, greatly boosting defense and resistance.

But Nasi hadn’t even activated her enhancements, so Chen Ou couldn’t fully unleash his either.

Charmeleon rolled on the ground like a tumbling gourd and then collapsed, lying motionless.

At that point, the outcome was sealed.

Yet neither Chen Ou, the impartial referee, nor the opponents Alakazam and Nasi spoke of the battle’s end.

Because Charmeleon was still struggling fiercely on the ground.

It gritted its teeth, slowly rising bit by bit, and staggered toward Alakazam. But after only a few steps, it fell again and lost consciousness.

The referee immediately raised a flag: “Charmeleon has lost the ability to battle! Alakazam wins! Challenger Chen Ou, please send out your next Pokémon!”

Chen Ou recalled Charmeleon, whispering, “Good job.”

The Poké Ball shook lightly, as if expressing its apology. Chen Ou shook his head, “You did your best.”

He then clipped Charmeleon’s Poké Ball to his waist and took out the Poké Ball of Growlithe.

“Your turn! Growlithe! Show your spirit!”

Growlithe appeared in the arena, baring its teeth fiercely as it faced the battle-worn Alakazam.

Alakazam looked at Growlithe, whose fighting spirit was no weaker than Charmeleon’s, and felt a bit weary.

Its trainer wouldn’t empower it, yet unleashed an opponent who was clearly ‘cheating.’ Normally, Alakazam was the one who dominated with such unfair advantages, but now the tables had turned.

Chen Ou patted the head of his little Infernape, then looked at the aggressive Growlithe with a bright smile.

Nasi glanced at Growlithe in the arena and couldn’t help but admire Chen Ou’s incredible luck.

Whether it was Charmeleon, Growlithe, or the little Infernape by Chen Ou’s side, each was remarkably gifted.

“Alakazam, finish it!” Nasi commanded coldly.

A battle was a battle—Nasi wouldn’t mix emotions into her commands.
