Chapter 15: There's Nothing Better Than a Wife
"Where are we dropping?"
"Airport? G Port?"
"No, no, no, those places seem a bit too far!"
"I think the fishing village is nice. Why don't we land there? I feel like it's a great spot for us to develop."
"This must be a beautiful place, perfect for sightseeing!"
Amid the infectious music, Yang Hao began to share his opinion, immediately vetoing the airport and G Port—places rich in resources but extremely dangerous—and chose the fishing village as the ideal landing spot.
Unfortunately, just as he finished speaking, Lin Zijin marked a spot on the map—Y City.
Seeing Lin Zijin choose Y City, which lay right along the plane's flight path, Yang Hao felt a pang of helplessness.
Did she have to be so bold?
On the island map, Y City was the second largest city after G Port. While not overflowing with resources, it was more than enough for a modest living. But the key issue was that the plane’s path cut directly through Y City. Although a lot of people had already jumped, it was obvious that they wouldn’t be the only ones landing there.
For peace-loving Yang Hao, starting a killing spree in the early stages was not the way to go. Laying low and developing quietly was the true king’s path.
However, Yang Hao knew that, judging by Lin Zijin’s style, a cautious and stealthy approach was clearly not on her agenda.
When the plane flew over Y City, Lin Zijin and her teammates jumped, and Yang Hao followed.
As soon as Yang Hao left, the entire cabin fell silent, and those who remained on the plane breathed a sigh of relief. That music had been way too catchy—it was still looping in their minds.
All four of Yang Hao’s squad leapt from the plane, diving straight toward Y City.
As they fell, the buildings below became clearer, and Lu Ziqi, who was on observation duty mid-air, glanced around and said, "Besides us, there are probably three or four other squads. There’s a team at the west side’s duplexes and another at the big and small restaurants. Zijin, be careful—someone’s heading for the twin towers on the east side too."
Undoubtedly, the west duplexes, the restaurants, and the twin towers on the east were the wealthiest spots in Y City, hotly contested by every team.
Upon landing, Lin Zijin quickly darted into a nearby building, with Yang Hao closely following.
Seeing this, the viewers in the livestream immediately booed.
After several games, the audience had already figured out Yang Hao's combat strategy: stick with the strongest player.
As long as he stayed by Lin Zijin’s side, almost no one could touch him.
Just like the saying online: “Winning is all about hiding; never show your face the whole game.”
Clearly, Yang Hao intended to follow this motto to the end.
"Someone’s in the building!"
Yang Hao had just bent down to pick up a discarded pistol when he heard footsteps approaching and was suddenly alarmed.
"Turn off the music!"
In contrast to Yang Hao’s reaction, Lin Zijin was calm, merely frowning as she spoke to him.
Yang Hao’s song was still playing, echoing in Lin Zijin’s ears and making it hard for her to concentrate.
"Oh!"
Only now realizing, Yang Hao hurriedly turned off the infamous brainwashing tune, and the game was quiet again—only the approaching footsteps remained.
Thud!
Thud!
The footsteps drew closer; clearly, the enemy had noticed them as well.
The other player was approaching deliberately, and not only Yang Hao, but even the viewers in the livestream, felt their hearts tighten.
The footsteps stopped at the door. The enemy could burst in at any moment.
At that moment, Yang Hao acted—he rushed out with his little pistol in hand.
Bang!
Rat-a-tat!
As Yang Hao burst through the door, he saw the enemy crouching at the entrance, who also spotted Yang Hao at the same time.
A firefight erupted!
The enemy wielded an M16A4, while Yang Hao only had a small P18C pistol—their firepower was worlds apart.
Even though Yang Hao managed to hit the enemy with his P18C, he was the first to be knocked down.
Just as Yang Hao fell, Lin Zijin sprang into action.
In a flash, her petite figure swept in like a descending spirit, swinging the S686 in her hand straight at the enemy’s head.
Boom!
With a flash and the shattering sound of a shotgun blast, all fell silent.
"BluePlaid knocked down SorrowfulHeart with an M16A4!"
"GreenRobe knocked down BluePlaid with an S686!"
Both notifications appeared in the bottom left corner of the screen almost simultaneously.
The enemy never expected there’d be another person hiding in the room. All his attention had been on Yang Hao, leaving him no time to react when Lin Zijin appeared.
After dropping the enemy, Lin Zijin didn’t say a word—she finished him off with another shot.
"Get inside!"
As Lin Zijin spoke, Yang Hao saw her dart back into the original room.
Get inside?
Did my wife just tell me to get inside?
Staring at the open door, Yang Hao’s mind wandered into wild territory.
But he quickly extinguished those ambiguous thoughts, knowing that if Lin Zijin ever found out what he was thinking, she might just shoot him on the spot, ending his game prematurely.
After helping Yang Hao up, Lin Zijin tossed him a few bandages and a drink, and even left him her S686.
After applying the bandages and drinking the soda, Yang Hao picked up the S686 and its shells from the floor, feeling content.
When Yang Hao stepped out, Lin Zijin had already gone upstairs. At the door, he opened the loot box left behind and couldn’t help but twitch his lips.
Inside the box, aside from a damaged level-one helmet, there was nothing else.
He clearly remembered—the enemy had, besides the M16A4, an UZI as well.
The M16A4 was obviously claimed by Lin Zijin, but Yang Hao had his eyes on the UZI.
Unexpectedly, even that had been taken by her.
Fortunately, Lin Zijin had left him the S686 before she went.
Feeling the shotgun in his hands, Yang Hao felt much more secure.
Searching the second floor, Yang Hao spotted that familiar UZI, along with a level-one backpack, a level-one vest, five bandages, a medkit, and a painkiller.
Seeing all this, Yang Hao couldn’t help but smile.
Lin Zijin had definitely been here.
That UZI was almost certainly one she’d swapped out.
As for the backpack and vest, it made sense—Lin Zijin must have upgraded to level-twos and no longer needed them.
But the five bandages, the medkit, and the painkiller meant something else entirely.
Clearly, Lin Zijin had deliberately left these for him.
Otherwise, there’s no way they would still be here.
Ah, his wife was truly the best!
She cared for her husband, saving the medical supplies especially for him.
