Chapter 28 Purely for Show (First Update!)
“Gentle Stream of My Heart used the Kar98K to score a headshot and knock down Soulless Relic!”
“Verdant Robe used the Kar98K to score a headshot and kill Love You Mwah Mwah!”
“Gentle Stream of My Heart used the Kar98K to score a headshot...”
“...”
After the battle at the school, the audience realized that Brother Bluff seemed to have transformed into a different person, as if possessed by the spirit of a gun god, dazzling everyone with his highlight plays. In less than ten minutes, Yang Hao had already racked up quite a few kills with his 98K. Though his kill count hadn’t yet surpassed Lin Zijin’s, it wasn’t far behind either. Kill notifications kept flashing on the screen, one after another. In the hands of Yang Hao and Lin Zijin, the twin 98Ks were like divine artifacts, casting an oppressive and despairing shadow over the rest of the players in the match.
These two reapers!
People knew about Lin Zijin, but where on earth did this “Gentle Stream of My Heart” come from? No one had even heard of this ID before! Was the gaming world about to be upended again? Was a new legend about to emerge out of nowhere? The imaginations of countless viewers began to run wild, their minds racing through every possibility.
As for the viewers in the streaming room, they were already dumbfounded. This was nothing like what they had expected—where was the goofy, self-sabotaging Brother Bluff? In just a short span, Brother Bluff’s gaming skills had skyrocketed as if he’d downed some miraculous elixir. Was there truly some heaven-sent, game-breaking technique? Some even suspected Brother Bluff had gotten a ringer to play for him! But knowing his character, he would never stoop to something like that.
Could it be... Brother Bluff had been playing the fool, hiding his strength all along?
The more they thought about it, the more plausible it sounded.
How infuriating!
“Gentle Stream of My Heart used the Kar98K to headshot and kill Prone Demon!”
Bang!
Suddenly, another shot rang out, another kill notification flashed.
“Damn! What did Brother Bluff take—some kind of aphrodisiac? Why so fierce?”
“I give up! Why does it feel like I’m watching a fantasy drama? Brother Bluff, stop showing off!”
“It’s all a ruse, playing the pig to eat the tiger. I thought Brother Bluff was as bad as I am!”
“Brother Bluff: Don’t get me wrong, I’m not targeting anyone. I’m just saying—everyone here is trash!”
“Respect! I can’t mess with a boss like you. Please accept my kneecaps!”
...
With every headshot Yang Hao scored with the 98K, the streaming room exploded in awe.
“That guy was so dumb! He just lay there motionless, practically a stationary target. Even a noob like me could’ve hit him.” After dispatching the prone player nearby, Yang Hao nonchalantly put away his 98K, his voice dripping with disdain.
The opponents were too weak—no pressure at all!
Ling Xue’er and the others were already immune to Yang Hao’s mockery. Every time he landed a headshot, he’d take the opportunity to jab at them. In truth, his words were meant more for Brother Cheng and his crew, especially since they’d mocked Yang Hao’s aim earlier.
Yang Hao hadn’t intended to show off so much, but Brother Cheng had been buzzing around him like a persistent fly, getting on his nerves. It was one thing to try to show off in front of Lin Zijin, but dragging Yang Hao into the comparison was another matter entirely.
When Brother Cheng managed to headshot two players with the 98K and watched Yang Hao spray wildly without hitting a thing, he shouldn’t have piled on with his taunts.
And now? He’d provoked Yang Hao and was left without any chance to shine. Yang Hao started picking off enemies one after another, effortlessly. Each shot was another easy kill.
Brother Cheng’s lips twitched as he watched Yang Hao score yet another headshot, his smile long vanished. He’d thought Yang Hao was just a rookie, but the sudden display of skill left him genuinely shaken.
As Yang Hao kept taking action, Brother Cheng and his team had less and less to do. It wasn’t that they were lazy—who wouldn’t want more kills if given the chance? The problem was that Lin Zijin and Yang Hao were simply too dominant; every time an enemy appeared, they dealt with them before anyone else could react. By the time Brother Cheng tried to fire, it was already too late.
Since leaving the school, Brother Cheng and his team had been relegated to bystanders, barely getting in on the action.
Of course, there were still opportunities to finish off downed enemies that Yang Hao and Lin Zijin hadn’t immediately killed, but Brother Cheng felt no urge to do so. There was no sense of accomplishment in that, and besides, kill-stealing only bred resentment. As a streamer, he was careful about such things.
“Here! Ghillie suit, AWM!”
Yang Hao, having just looted a crate, returned to Lin Zijin and tossed the freshly acquired ghillie suit, AWM, and a dozen rounds of ammo at her feet.
Finding a ghillie suit and AWM—loot available only from supply drops—naturally, he wanted to give them to his beloved wife. He hoped his selfless gesture would move her.
“Holy crap! A ghillie suit!”
“And an AWM! That guy was stacked!”
“I don’t get it—how did Brother Bluff spot him when he was wearing a ghillie suit?”
“You know, I didn’t even notice that until you said it. The more I think about it, the scarier it gets!”
“Unbelievable!”
...
With just one run, Yang Hao had picked up a ghillie suit and an AWM, making everyone green with envy. At the same time, they mourned the poor soul who’d died to Yang Hao’s bullets. It was clear he’d just looted airdrop gear and was on his way to the top—only to run into the human beast that was Brother Bluff!
“You should use them,” Lin Zijin said, unmoved by the loot at her feet.
“If you don’t want them, I’ll toss them,” Yang Hao replied instantly. Seeing Lin Zijin show no interest, he was decisive and didn’t hesitate for a second.
You’d really just throw them away if she didn’t want them?
What a waste!
Many viewers were so exasperated, they wanted to jump through the screen and smack him.
Plenty of players had never even touched an AWM in-game, and could only admire it from afar. Yet Yang Hao acted like it was nothing.
Lin Zijin said nothing, but quietly donned the ghillie suit and swapped her 98K for the AWM. After she picked up the AWM’s ammo, Yang Hao’s next move left the audience dumbstruck.
He stepped forward and picked up the 98K Lin Zijin had just discarded. Now, with his original one, Yang Hao was carrying two 98Ks.
Two 98Ks!
The viewers were baffled.
Brother Cheng, seeing Yang Hao’s actions, couldn’t help but sneer. There were only about thirty players left—soon it would be the final circle, where sniper rifles would have less and less use. In his eyes, Yang Hao carrying twin 98Ks was nothing but a showy act.
He was convinced Yang Hao was just putting on a performance.
