Chapter 72: The Hidden Sniper
In the game.
Yao Cheng was already riding his motorcycle up the slope.
The motorcycle was blazing fast!
So fast it seemed as if it would take flight!
At this moment, Yao Cheng was clearly unaware of the danger ahead. He was still immersed in the reckless freedom of chasing the wind, like a wild and untamed dreamer.
The next second, both he and the bike were airborne.
Yet Yao Cheng showed no panic at all—this was exactly the sensation he sought.
What he wanted was the feeling of soaring through the air.
As the motorcycle launched into the sky, Yao Cheng skillfully maneuvered, clearly planning to pull off a spectacular mid-air flip.
Meanwhile, the audience in the studio was already dumbstruck.
"Who the hell is this guy? So badass?"
"Hah, who else would dare pull stunts like this during the qualifiers?"
"This is hilarious, he’s obviously about to throw himself right into an ambush."
"He probably doesn’t even realize someone’s lying in wait nearby!"
"He’s done for, I can feel it…"
No one was appreciating Yao Cheng’s riding skills now; plenty were already gloating at his misfortune.
There’s a certain thrill in setting traps for others.
Watching someone else walk into one is even better!
Especially with so many people watching—everyone was getting excited, some even started howling with anticipation.
Back in the game, the three players lying in ambush had already made preparations when they saw two vehicles approaching.
But when the motorcycle in front suddenly accelerated and charged toward them, they thought they’d been discovered.
However, when they saw the bike take off and Yao Cheng flip through the air right before their eyes, they were completely thrown off.
Had they not been found?
With this, their plan to attack early was put on hold.
Almost at the same time, as Yao Cheng reveled in the thrill of his ride, his eyes flicked downward and he suddenly spotted something unusual.
Though his view was somewhat obstructed in the middle of his aerial maneuver, he still keenly noticed several figures lurking below, and his heart skipped a beat.
"Damn, there are people here."
Yao Cheng’s expression shifted. The moment he spotted the enemy, he instantly alerted Yang Hao and the others.
No sooner had he shouted than the enemy made their move.
His motorcycle, still in mid-air, became the target of concentrated fire.
Ratatatat!
A violent burst of gunfire erupted as the motorcycle was riddled with bullets. Yao Cheng reacted instantly, jerking the bike aside and simultaneously leaping away, hurtling toward the ground.
Seeing him suddenly abandon his vehicle, the enemies quickly adjusted their aim, shifting their fire to Yao Cheng as he hung in mid-air.
Faced with such a dire situation, Yao Cheng certainly wasn’t going to just sit there and take it. The instant he left the motorcycle, he swiftly drew the assault rifle slung across his back and began firing back.
A rapid burst of aerial shooting flowed from his hands.
But they had superior numbers and firepower; Yao Cheng was hit twice.
His situation was precarious.
At that moment—
Zhang Tian was already speeding up in the car behind, while Yang Hao and Zhu Ziyuan leaned out, unleashing a hail of bullets.
Their target: the three on the hillside.
A fierce battle erupted!
The audience, witnessing such an intense firefight, was visibly thrilled.
The bigger the spectacle, the better!
Because of their angle, most of Yang Hao’s shots were blocked by the enemy’s cover, but their assault still had impact; the enemy’s return fire was heavily suppressed. After taking another bullet, Yao Cheng managed to land, losing a chunk of health but not falling. With only a sliver of health left, he scrambled to a nearby rock for cover, narrowly escaping death.
"Wow, he’s still standing?"
"How lucky can you get?"
"After taking so many hits and losing health on the landing—he’s still not dead. Unbelievable."
"He was just a hair away—his health is practically zero, one more shot and he’d be finished."
"Incredible, man!"
The crowd was stunned that Yao Cheng, under such heavy fire, had not only survived but managed to find cover and temporarily escape danger.
To survive that...
His luck truly defied belief.
Clearly, Yao Cheng surviving this ordeal was far beyond anyone’s expectations.
"Damn, that was close. These guys are sneaky," Yao Cheng grumbled as he patched himself up behind the rock, glancing at his nearly empty health bar.
It had been a close call.
Fortunately, luck was on his side.
Yang Hao and the others had already gotten out of the car.
At this point, driving any further was unwise.
Though Yao Cheng had escaped death, he wasn’t out of danger yet—he was now isolated from his team, pinned down by the enemy.
They had no choice but to fight.
Unless Yang Hao and the others abandoned Yao Cheng, there was no way to withdraw from this battle.
But that was out of the question!
Only by wiping out the enemy could they all leave this place unscathed.
After that intense exchange of gunfire and Yao Cheng’s narrow escape, the gunfire gradually ceased.
A lull in the battle didn’t mean it was over.
Both sides were clearly preparing for the next round.
In this situation, neither team had any other options.
It was now a fight to the death.
Whoever hesitated would be slaughtered by the other.
No one dared let their guard down.
Reloading, Zhang Tian tossed two smoke grenades forward, laying down a smoke screen.
They were clearly preparing to attack.
The enemy noticed as well, tensing with anticipation.
And then—
A gunshot rang out!
And with it, Yao Cheng’s startled curse.
"The King of Udara knocked out Big Cannon Yao with a Kar98K headshot!"
A knockdown notification flashed on the screen at the same time.
A sudden twist!
Yao Cheng’s abrupt defeat caught Yang Hao and the others completely off guard.
They hadn’t expected the enemy to have a sniper hidden elsewhere.
The gunshot was so sudden that, from the sound of the Kar98K, Yang Hao could only deduce a rough location—he hadn’t actually seen the shooter.
Clearly, the enemy sniper had responded swiftly.
With Yao Cheng taken out, their plans were thrown into disarray.
Their planned assault was abandoned for now.
But the most frustrated of all was Yao Cheng.
What was supposed to be a thrilling joyride had been ruined by an unexpected ambush, nearly costing him his life.
He’d just barely survived under the cover of his teammates, patched himself up, and before he’d even finished his energy drink, he got his head blown off.
If he’d known this would happen, he might as well have stayed prone with the others—this was exhausting.
Meanwhile, while keeping an eye on the enemies on the hill, Yang Hao and Zhu Ziyuan searched for the sniper’s position.
From the gunshot, they had a general idea.
Their eyes swept the area, each calculating possible hiding spots. Yang Hao squinted slightly.
Where exactly was the shooter hiding?
