Chapter 66: The Fiery Cloud Demon God
Su Yao already possessed the feline ability, her body extraordinarily flexible and her movements remarkably swift. Hearing Xiang Nan’s words, she immediately understood and pressed the mechanism in her hand.
Xiang Nan grabbed Su Yao’s calf, lending her a boost with the power of his Taiji technique. Coupled with the momentum from Su Yao’s own mechanical arts, her body shot forth like a sudden gale, whistling past the Evil God of Firecloud.
Her opponent, after all, was the Evil God of Firecloud, now at the fourth cultivation tier; his figure flickered, deftly evading Su Yao’s charging form. Yet to his surprise, a blade of Taiji sword energy followed in her wake, nearly cleaving into his vital point.
In a flustered dodge, he circled around, only to find Su Yao, who had passed him, now swinging back from the front.
A sharp, tearing sound split the air.
Three crimson claw marks suddenly appeared on his originally bald forehead. As a martial master of the fourth tier, when had he ever suffered such humiliation? Fury blazed in his eyes. With a grasp at the void, a powerful suction force seized Su Yao; despite the steel wire’s pull, her body was about to fall into his grasp.
At that critical moment, Xiang Nan sprang from the rattan chair, his hands forming a blade, gathering force and slashing toward the Evil God. The hand that was about to seize Su Yao was forced to change direction midway, the power transforming into an invisible shield to block Xiang Nan’s fierce strike.
A thunderous boom echoed as the massive impact disturbed the air.
Taking advantage of the opening, Su Yao darted back to Xiang Nan’s side.
The shield of force in the Evil God’s hand, conjured to block Xiang Nan’s attack, nearly shattered under the sword energy. Driven back several meters by the sheer force, the Evil God’s retreat left a deep crack in the villa’s marble floor.
His eyes filled with disbelief—a mere second-tier martial artist actually possessed such monstrous strength? No wonder formidable figures like Tian Can and Di Que had fallen to him, and the Axe Gang had been annihilated in a single night.
But who was he, the Evil God of Firecloud? Apart from those hidden masters, he had never met his match in this city. For this very reason, Brother Chen from the Axe Gang had paid a fortune to hire him to deal with Xiang Nan.
At first, he hadn’t understood why such an expert was needed to deal with a youth not yet twenty, who was, at most, a second-tier martial artist.
Yet after just a few exchanges, this young man was not at all at a disadvantage—even the Evil God himself felt uncertain.
“Young man, are you truly only at the second tier?” The Evil God’s question came from the depths of his soul.
“To deal with you, the second tier is more than enough!” Xiang Nan’s lips curled in a spirited smile.
But remembering that this was the Xu family’s villa—if they continued to fight here, the entire building might collapse. More importantly, the Evil God’s true power was unfathomable; he hadn’t even unleashed his full might. If it came to an all-out fight, Xiang Nan had no certainty of victory.
Beside him, Su Yao was even more on edge. Normally carefree, she was now uncharacteristically grave.
“Xiao Nan, this old man is formidable—we must be careful!” Su Yao warned.
Xiang Nan exchanged a glance with her, then called out to the Evil God, “Evil God of Firecloud, we don’t know each other, nor do we have any enmity—why come after us?”
Although Xiang Nan suspected the Evil God’s appearance was tied to the Axe Gang, it was best to avoid conflict with such a master if possible.
But the Evil God of Firecloud was a madman, a killer at heart. His twisted, contorted features sent chills down one’s spine.
“I only wish to kill you both—or be killed by you,” he replied, a hideous smile twisting his ugly face, as if relishing the prospect of a fight to the death.
Xiang Nan’s face turned pale. He exchanged a look with Su Yao; both understood. Their opponent was clearly insane—there could be no end to this but death.
Since the battle could not be avoided, they could only fight with all their might.
“Then let’s take this outside!” No sooner had the words left his lips than Xiang Nan, stepping into a shadowy movement technique, vanished from the villa and appeared in the broad backyard.
Su Yao grasped his intention, pressed the switch on her steel cable, and shot out like an arrow.
The two juniors, their skills formidable, drew out the Evil God’s fighting spirit. In a flicker, his form appeared in the yard as well.
Xiang Nan stared intently at the Evil God. That momentary shift just now had revealed the depth of his power, and Xiang Nan couldn’t help feeling apprehensive.
After all, he was only at the second tier. Even with Su Yao at his side, defeating the Evil God of Firecloud was far from certain.
In a low voice, Xiang Nan said, “Su Yao, when you see an opening, escape. He’s a lunatic—no need for both our lives to end here.”
At these words, Su Yao froze. “What do you take me for? I, Su Yao, will never flee the battlefield, leaving you behind! We’re up against a tough enemy today, but even if it means death, I’ll never abandon you!”
“Don’t be foolish. This isn’t the time for heroics. Our opponent is the Evil God of Firecloud—a fourth-tier master. There’s no need to throw our lives away!” Xiang Nan insisted.
Still Su Yao refused, “If we live, we live together; if we die, we die together!”
With that, she pressed the switch in her hand. A fine steel web shot out, and her supple body soared into the air. The web spread like a cascade of flowers toward the Evil God.
But a flash of lightning gleamed in the Evil God’s eyes. No hidden weapon, however subtle, could escape his gaze. With a wave of his hand, a palm strike shattered the steel web. The force of his palm, rippling through the broken wires, slammed into Su Yao mid-air.
A muffled cry escaped her lips. She took the blow full on—fortunately, the web had absorbed much of the impact; otherwise, her organs would have been shattered.
Seeing Su Yao struck, Xiang Nan’s heart burned with anxiety. The blazing flame wave in his hand shot forth, aiming for the Evil God’s face.
This was a spirit technique he had refined from the Silver Moon Three-Headed Serpent’s spirit pearl. While not yet powerful enough to kill, it was perfect for sudden long-range attacks.
The Evil God had intended to finish off Su Yao with another blow, but Xiang Nan’s flame wave intercepted him just in time. The flame collided with his palm wind, shattering the surrounding air and forcing both men back several steps.
Worried for the injured Su Yao, Xiang Nan summoned his spiritual energy, steadied himself, and dashed to where she had fallen.
Su Yao was lying on the ground, blood gushing from her mouth—clearly gravely wounded.
Quickly, Xiang Nan produced a Reviving Herb and placed it in her mouth.
“Su Yao, swallow it quickly!” Then he shoved several more into her hand. “Keep one in your mouth—so long as you have it, he can’t finish us off!”
No matter how fearsome the Evil God was, he could not overcome Xiang Nan and Su Yao’s resurrection amulets. The only question was, for now, Xiang Nan still had no idea how to actually defeat the Evil God of Firecloud.
