Chapter 99: Seeing Through but Not Speaking Out, Let’s Keep Being Friends!
[Penultimate Chapter Before Release]
Deleting the mission and returning to the starting point, the entire time-space bubble fell silent for a moment.
Deleting the mission? What kind of operation is this? The duo who had been through life and death together realized for the first time that missions could actually be deleted.
But... if the mission is deleted, it’s gone. To clear the time-space bubble, you definitely have to complete missions. Without any missions, how could you possibly pass?
Moreover, their levels reset to zero...
Feeling drained, the two were puzzled when Old Niu, who had been on the brink of death for days, suddenly bounced over, holding a glass bottle with a yellow exclamation mark floating above his head. “Are you the kind-hearted folks who want to help me? Thank you, thank you!”
He shook their hands warmly, bowed in gratitude, and a dialogue box popped up—Main Quest Activated: Help Old Niu find the cow.
Accepting the quest, the yellow exclamation mark turned into a white question mark, as if replaying the events from several days ago.
This... this was possible too!
“You knew all along, didn’t you?” the man in sunglasses trembled, glaring at Alpha Princess as if he’d braved the bitter cold without thermal underwear.
“I didn’t, I didn’t. Don’t say nonsense,” Alpha Princess firmly denied. “Do you think I was just a bystander these past few days, eating pancakes wrapped with scallions and drinking milk with garlic? I was observing, calculating, scheming.”
“Do you think this operation is really as simple as it looks?” Absolutely not!
“If it were that simple, why couldn’t you two figure it out after several days…” Because they lacked experience with the pre-catastrophe game, of course.
This woman was definitely lying. The reason the time-space bubble had become so bizarre was entirely because she had joined!
But the terrifying thing was, the man in sunglasses couldn’t detect her lie at all. His mental waves remained calm and serene, as if the sky were high and the waters long... A person like this was either mentally unhinged or a pervert! The man in sunglasses could only tremble harder.
Of course, he couldn’t see through it. This was the legendary “Three-in-One” mental state: three personalities splitting the mind—one silently reciting π to the hundred-thousandth decimal place, another reviewing a library of witty jokes, and the last one showing off and boasting in public.
What followed basically confirmed his suspicions—
Following Old Niu, the three set off again. A sudden meteor shower was effortlessly dodged;
The battlefield’s brutal carnage, where death was frequent, could not stop this woman’s advance. She casually picked up a fallen soldier’s gun, firing shots at a steady, unhurried pace—“pop”... “pop”...
Minutes later, a flash of light signaled her level up;
A few more minutes, another flash—she leveled up again, and somehow gained several pieces of equipment. Though not high-level, she could now climb roofs and tear down walls barehanded, fighting as if playing a completely different game from the duo.
Why was she so strong?
To get kills and buy equipment.
Though this was their second playthrough, they didn’t know how to control vision, avoid aggro, or steal kills for economic advantage. They had no clue money could buy gear... If they had heroes with built-in templates and skills, it would be different. But having nothing was like the difference between the national ping-pong team and the national soccer team!
The key was, despite playing for days, they had taken the wrong approach from the start, turning the game into nightmare mode. All their experience was useless; their tactics were basically nonsense.
Who knows the experience after a day of grinding League of Legends? Who’s seen it? Who wants it?
In just over twenty minutes, Alpha Princess led the three on a tour around the city. Though only level ten or so, she was already overwhelmingly powerful, able to slaughter opponents effortlessly, as most experience and all the economy had gone to her.
It was soon confirmed that unless they found the “wrong” cow first, the final quest cow wouldn’t spawn.
Then let’s find it.
Two minutes later, the wrong cow was successfully located, the main quest updated, and everything repeated as before;
One minute later, Alpha Princess led the three on a direct assault, finding the black-and-white dairy cow.
That’s right. The target cow was a dairy cow.
Old Niu’s stubborn belief that the cow could still be saved for years was driven by his desire to bring a bottle of milk for the starving children at home—he had been holding a baby bottle all along.
Unfortunately, due to the post-disaster mutations, cows had become among the most powerful creatures in existence, known as “terror cows.” Milk was no longer obtainable, and no one recognized baby bottles anymore.
“Hiss, the milk you’re drinking…” the snake-headed man suddenly realized.
“Silly child, do you know what it means to see through something but not expose it? Shall we remain friends?” Wielding her battle blade, Alpha Princess weaved a slashing pattern around the snake-headed man.
He immediately trembled and fell silent.
Seizing the opportunity, Alpha Princess patted his head. Oh, it was indeed cool and smooth, like touching a little monk.
Then the battle began!
Of course, there had to be a fight, but... it was hardly a challenge. Alpha Princess leveled up and gathered gear so quickly that before others could even unleash their ultimate moves in League of Legends, she was already achieving quadruple and quintuple kills, going godlike, and effortlessly soloing bosses.
Within a minute or two, the strong and brave bull was defeated. The trembling dairy cow was pushed forward to be milked.
A full bottle of milk was collected. Leading the dairy cow by the rope, Old Niu happily teleported home, feeding the milk to his child with a face full of contentment.
Accompanied by the child’s delighted laughter, the instance began to collapse.
In the real world, Old Niu of course hadn’t found any milk, and the child probably hadn’t either... Otherwise, such a stubborn obsession wouldn’t have lingered after the disaster.
With the obsession fulfilled, the entangled power began to dissipate.
Some of it vanished like smoke—just like the three’s levels, equipment, and strength; another portion quickly condensed, materializing in their hands as Old Niu’s token of gratitude, the reward for clearing the instance.
“We finally cleared it! (Hiss)” The snake-headed man and the man in sunglasses embraced and wept, having no mind to check what the rewards actually were.
After days of near-death struggles, they could finally leave, and no longer had to be with this crazy woman!
Alpha Princess vaguely saw that the snake-headed man held a long staff, seemingly an old-fashioned white wax staff; the man in sunglasses had a submachine gun frequently seen in the battle;
But in her own hand was... a pacifier?
At such a critical moment, she couldn’t care less about the bizarre reward or its effect.
As the world spun and space twisted, Alpha Princess quickly asked the man in sunglasses, “What’s your Sky Forum password?”
Password... You’re still hung up on that? They had said before that they’d give the account password once they escaped the time-space bubble, but he hadn’t agreed. Now asking was a bit late...
The man in sunglasses thought this but then looked at Alpha Princess’s murderous expression and recalled her insane behavior inside the bubble. Forget it, not worth the trouble!
He might as well give her the account. He had the invite code anyway, and could just register another account. In a few days, he’d explain to the Sky Dwellers that the account had changed hands. If it got banned or kicked out, well, it wouldn’t be him offending anyone.
“Neo2032yuan!”
It seemed to be the truth, and Alpha Princess nodded in satisfaction.
By now, the instance had completely collapsed, revealing a brand-new world before them.
Not a prison?! The time-space bubble was supposed to bring you in and out at the same place, wasn’t it? Alpha Princess, clutching the pacifier and wanting to leave, couldn’t help but stiffen.
What was this nonsense... no, this was a divine place?
