I hurriedly answered the call. “Uncle Wang, how is it? How’s Uncle Li? Did you find Master Miao?”

But instead of Uncle Wang’s voice, what came from the other end was a voice filled with the weight of years, slightly hoarse. “Yu Wei, is it? I am Miao Tianfeng.”

Hearing this, I was momentarily stunned, then quickly replied, “Master Miao! Hello! Um… I’m sorry to have disturbed you.”

Miao Tianfeng was much older than my teacher—nearly eighty by now—and his reputation in our field was immense, though he was now semi-retired.

“Enough with the pleasantries. The issue with your Uncle Li—I’ve already resolved it,” Master Miao said over the phone.

“Thank you! Thank you so much, Master Miao!” I hastily expressed my gratitude.

“You should thank me. If it weren’t for Zhang’s sake, I wouldn’t have bothered to move these old bones!” His tone was earnest.

I had never worked with him directly, but I’d heard plenty about his character—a man of few words, steadfast and uncompromising.

“Of course, I must thank you!” I replied quickly.

“It’s not about thanks. I called you personally because I want to know, in detail, how did your Uncle Li end up so troubled by a White-Clad Ghost?” Master Miao pressed.

“A White-Clad Ghost? I… I don’t know!” I answered in confusion.

I really didn’t know. My training with my teacher was mainly in geomancy and talisman crafting. When it came to dealing with ghosts and demons, my abilities were much weaker.

Ghosts, based on their power, are roughly divided into five levels: Shadow Ghosts, White-Clad Ghosts, Yellow-Robed Ghosts, Cyan-Reaping Ghosts, and Scarlet Fiend Ghosts.

With my current abilities, I could handle Shadow Ghosts using talismans. Against White-Clad Ghosts, I’d have to rely on my teacher’s talismans. Anything above that—I’d have to run for my life.

“You don’t know? You haven’t seen that White-Clad Ghost?” Master Miao’s voice rang out, both surprised and suspicious.

“No! There are indeed plenty of restless spirits in the client’s house, but I haven’t touched them yet. You know, dealing with those things… my skills are somewhat lacking!” I replied awkwardly.

“That’s exactly why I called you myself. From my judgment, you have at least one Cyan-Reaping Ghost there. Maybe more!” Master Miao said.

“What?” His words startled me.

Cyan-Reaping Ghosts!

Good heavens—a Cyan-Reaping Ghost, possibly more than one.

That’s… that’s disastrous. There’s no way I could handle this!

Even though I brought my teacher’s jade box, the talismans inside are not high enough. The best talisman inside still isn’t enough to deal with a Cyan-Reaping Ghost.

Talismans also have their own hierarchy.

Talismans, also known as spirit papers, incantations, or seals, are divided into four tiers: White, Yellow, Silver, and Gold. Each tier has nine grades, with Grade One being the lowest and Grade Nine the highest.

The best talisman my teacher left me is only Grade Seven of the White tier.

As for myself, I can only draw up to Grade Two of the White tier.

Grade Seven White talismans are enough for White-Clad Ghosts, but far from sufficient for Cyan-Reaping Ghosts.

The most powerful ghost I’ve ever encountered was only a Yellow-Robed Ghost—and it was my teacher who destroyed it. I didn’t help at all, only watched from a safe distance.

Of course, my teacher is extremely powerful—even a Scarlet Fiend Ghost is no match for him. He rarely uses talismans, as he simply doesn’t need them.

I never expected that, after my teacher left, my first solo case would involve Cyan-Reaping Ghosts.

“Um… Master Miao, if it really is a Cyan-Reaping Ghost, then… I definitely can’t handle it! You have to help me. Although Uncle Li took the case, after his accident I took over. Please, for my teacher’s sake, help me!” I gripped my phone and pleaded.

I had no choice. Cyan-Reaping Ghosts are far beyond my abilities.

Now that I had reached Master Miao, I certainly had to ask for help.

“That’s right. If you need help, you have to speak up! If you don’t ask, how would anyone know to help?” Master Miao said.

He was correct—this is an unwritten rule in our profession. If you encounter something you can’t handle, unless you explicitly ask for help, no one will intervene. Otherwise, it would be seen as meddling.

“Heh, Master Miao, please do help!” I said, smiling ingratiatingly.

“Alright! Don’t do anything reckless over there. I’ll have someone come to assist you soon!” Master Miao replied.

“What? You… you won’t come yourself?” I asked quickly.

“Hah, a Cyan-Reaping Ghost—does it really require me to personally intervene?” His tone was full of pride.

True. For me, a Cyan-Reaping Ghost is terrifying, but for him it’s child’s play.

“Then… I’ll leave it to you!” I said sincerely.

“Good, wait patiently. Don’t do anything until my people arrive!” Master Miao instructed.

I agreed, thanked him again, and hung up.

Afterward, I turned to Guo Shiping. “Uncle Li’s fine now, you can rest easy.”

Upon hearing this, Guo Shiping let out a long sigh, the anxiety on his face dissipating considerably.

“Go tell the Gu family, make sure no one goes home right now!” I instructed.

Now that I knew Cyan-Reaping Ghosts were present, I had to be extra cautious. If anyone from their family got into trouble, it would be a disaster.

Guo Shiping acknowledged and went to find the Gu family.

I chatted with the neighbors of Gu Xiaogang’s family. After a while, Gu Xiaogang and Guo Shiping returned.

“Mr. Yu, is there anything else we need to prepare? Can the problem with my house really be solved?” Gu Xiaogang asked cautiously after sitting down.

“The house’s problem can definitely be solved, don’t worry. There’s nothing else you need to prepare. If I need anything, I’ll let you know,” I replied.

We had dinner at the neighbor’s house.

After dinner, night had fully descended.

“Mr. Yu… um… when will we go to my house?” Gu Xiaogang asked.

“Don’t worry. The situation at your house is complicated—I can’t handle it alone. I’ve requested help. We’ll wait until they arrive,” I answered.

I didn’t know who Master Miao would send, nor when they’d arrive. I couldn’t call to rush them—that would seem impatient.

But time dragged on, and by ten o’clock, I still hadn’t received a call. The rest of the Gu family had been settled with other villagers by Gu Xiaogang.

“Um… Mr. Yu, when will the helpers arrive?” Gu Xiaogang asked anxiously.

He’d asked several times already, and each time I told him to wait.

I understood how hard it must be, having a home you can’t return to. After some thought, I took out my phone to call Uncle Wang.

Just as I reached for my phone, it rang.

“Uncle Wang!” I answered.

“Xiao Wei, we’ve arrived!” Uncle Wang’s voice came through.

“Great, we’re at the neighbor’s house. We’ll come out right away!” I said, then hung up.

Guo Shiping rushed over to help me, and together we went to the Gu house.

As we reached the entrance, we saw Uncle Wang’s car parked.

The car door opened, and two people got out first, then Uncle Wang followed.

“Uncle Wang!” I called out.

At the same time, I sized up the other two.

They looked strikingly similar—clearly twin brothers, about twenty-one or twenty-two years old.

“Good heavens! Does anyone actually live here?”

“A haunted house like this, and people dare to stay—must have a death wish!” they exclaimed loudly after glancing at the Gu house.

Hearing their words, I couldn’t help but twitch my lips. These two really don’t have much tact, do they? Saying such things right in front of the client—could they not be a bit more subtle?
