Chapter Sixty-six: The Concern of Master and Senior Brother
"There's absolutely no way it's like that. Stop trying to deceive me. You're just trying to sow discord between me and my master." The man in black did not believe what he heard, and instead turned his suspicion toward Yan Heru's senior brother.
"Hahaha, you are truly amusing. I really wonder why your master would send you on such a suicidal mission.
"But now that you're here, you shouldn't expect to leave so easily. Daring to come to the Shengjing Medical Hall to assassinate someone—well, you'll have to bear the consequences you deserve." The tone of Senior Brother Han made the man in black feel genuine fear.
"Junior sister, I'll take him to the basement first. Wait here for me a moment—I'll be back soon." As soon as he finished speaking, in the blink of an eye, both Senior Brother Han and the man in black had vanished from sight.
Yan Heru's eyes lit up at the scene before her. "Heavens… Is martial arts truly this powerful? I really want to learn! I should ask His Highness to teach me when I return—yes, that's it!"
She didn't even realize that, no matter what the situation, her first thought was of Shen Hezhi. If he knew this, he would probably be so happy he couldn't sleep.
Senior Brother Han soon returned to Yan Heru's side.
"Junior sister, I'm sorry. I didn't expect you to encounter danger in the medical hall. That man has been locked away."
"Hehe, that's not important. But, senior brother, why do you always wear a mask?" Yan Heru asked curiously.
Senior Brother Han hesitated before replying, "I have some scars on my face, so it's inconvenient to show myself. I hope you won't mind."
"So that's why. Sorry—but could you let me have a look? I know some remedies that can remove scars," Yan Heru said apologetically, looking at her senior brother.
"No need," Senior Brother Han refused at once. "It's not the same as you delicate ladies—it's nothing for a man to have a few more scars on his face."
"Did you come to the medical hall today for something important? If I recall correctly, you weren't supposed to be on duty today," he asked.
Yan Heru nodded. "I did come for something—I was looking for the master, but before I could see him, I ran into that man. Thank you for saving me, senior brother."
"It's nothing. Since you have business with the master, go quickly. He should be in the inner hall." With that, Senior Brother Han nodded slightly to Yan Heru and left the medical hall.
Watching him go, Yan Heru felt a little puzzled. Why did her senior brother appear at just the right moment? Was it merely a coincidence?
But now wasn't the time to dwell on it. The most important thing was to find the master and tell him she was going to the frontier.
She walked to the inner hall and saw the master sitting in a chair, his brow furrowed with worry.
Yan Heru crept up beside her master. "Master!"
"Ah!" The master was startled, but when he saw who had frightened him, he could only smile helplessly.
"You little rascal, what are you doing sneaking up on this old man? You ought to be punished so you’ll learn some discipline." Though the words were reproving, his tone was full of affection.
"Hehe, Master, I have something very important to tell you, so I came right over. You looked so serious just now—what were you thinking about?" Yan Heru sat on the chair beside him.
The master sighed. "It's the cold poison afflicting Ninth Prince. This is a highly confidential matter, but I’m telling you—don't breathe a word to anyone else, or it could cost you your life."
Yan Heru was taken aback. So her master had been pondering the prince’s cold poison.
"Go on, Master," she said obediently.
The master looked around to make sure no one was near before continuing. "A year ago, Ninth Prince came to me for treatment. I thought it would be a simple case, but the poison in his body was very unusual, and in the end, I couldn't cure it. Whenever I have a moment, I try to figure out a solution."
"Master, actually, that's why I came to see you today," Yan Heru said with an awkward smile.
If she simply told him she was going to the frontier with the prince, the master would surely ask why a woman should go there, which was neither proper nor safe, and she’d have to endure much hardship. But since he himself had brought up the cold poison, she no longer had to invent an excuse and could simply tell him the truth.
As she expected, the master was shocked. "You—you know about this? You know the Ninth Prince suffers from cold poison?"
Yan Heru nodded and explained, "Master, did you forget? I'm the princess consort—how could I not know?"
"No, it has nothing to do with you being the princess consort. It’s just that Ninth Prince trusts you. This is an extremely secret matter; he wouldn't tell anyone unless he truly trusts them," the master said gravely.
Yan Heru had considered this before but dismissed it, never believing herself capable of earning the prince’s trust so quickly after they met.
"Ru'er, the Ninth Prince truly cares for you," the master said suddenly.
Startled, Yan Heru didn’t know how to respond at first, but then she smiled. "Master… Why are you speaking for the prince all of a sudden?"
The master smiled helplessly. "It's not that I wish to speak for him, but seeing someone treat you with such sincerity makes me happy. Enough about that—tell me why you came to find me today?"
"I want to go to the frontier with the Ninth Prince," Yan Heru replied. "I just told you, I know about the cold poison—I'm going to help him treat it, that's why I'm accompanying him."
Although she hadn’t known the master long, Yan Heru immediately felt he was someone she could trust—just as she’d known at first glance that Cen Changjing was not.
As if she possessed some mysterious ability to see through people’s hearts.
"You can cure the Ninth Prince’s cold poison?!" the master exclaimed in shock.
